How to Catch MEW in Pokemon Yellow without Cheating! (Works on All Versions)

In this video, I show the legitimate way you can obtain Mew in Pokemon Yellow through legitimate means, without cheating, albeit abusing glitches within a specific area of the game.

MEW: This can be done as soon as you complete the Nugget Bridge challenge, leaving two specific trainers unbattled on Routes 24 and 25. This requires capturing an Abra so you can use Teleport out of battle. On Route 24, just north of Nugget Bridge, a trainer to the left of the bridge can be abused by walking into the trainer's vision, pausing, and then teleporting, triggering the battle. From that point, a trainer on Route 25 that is left unbattled plays a role by walking exactly one step to battle you. After this battle, teleporting away and walking back on Nugget Bridge will cause the pause menu to open automatically; closing it will trigger the battle with a Level 7 Mew if done correctly.

Holy shit it worked. Played yellow for the first time this weekend. Found out you could get all starters. Then found out I could get Mew. Loving my life right now 😂

Yellow was really something special, really wished that they would have carried that over to the rest of the 3rd released game of each gen

Cool video, man. I grew up on these games and still play the new ones to date, and I honestly got most legendaries but didn’t ever get mew back on yellow or green 😅😔 this video gives me closure lol

The second trainer needs to be specific because the slowpoke that you defeat contains the code that spawns the Mew.

To get Celebi in yellow, you need a full dex and release all your pokemon and save the game but right after it saves take it out of your console(quit game if on emulator) and load in ur mons will be back ur party will only have Mew and take 1 step and Celebi!

Evertime i do this i get ghastly or tetacool.... But im flying to lavemder town going north fighting the first guy he walks a few steps tho then i immediately fly to cerulean city walk towards the bridge and it stops me pops the menu up i hit B, but never mew.... Its always something else what am i doing wrong???

There is a way to get a level 100 mew im pretty sure. You need to use growl on the youngster fight until it says "nothing happened" then you should get a level 1 mew. Catch it then make it your slot 1 fight a pokemon then swap out mew for some other pokemon. And as long as the fight doesnt give mew enough xp to level up it should become level 100

Hey there, great video. 2 questions. 1. Can you transfer the mew from say pokemon yellow to pokemon crystal through a regular trade? 2. Can mew be put into pokebank and then pokemon home?

Theoretically yes, if you’re using real hardware, using two GB or GBCs with a link cable, you can use the Time Capsule. You should be able to trade over WiFi with another device on virtual console, too. As far as Pokebank, yes, it appears that virtual console versions work for transferring to Pokebank

@@Nvoyhinz awesome. I'm using pokemon yellow vc, unfortunately I've already beaten the required trainers so I'm going to start a new game with red vc and then try and transfer it across to yellow. I read some mixed reviews with transferring to bank, some saying you can't and some saying you can. So not sure what to believe

@@jaseredpanda I don’t own a 3DS myself to test it for you, but the info I found said it’s possible (en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/25449/~/which-games-are-compatible-with-pok%C3%A9mon-bank-and-pok%C3%A9-transporter%3F) Keep in mind that the Mew glitch only works on Yellow, it’s not present in other Gen 1 titles.

I see that all the other trainers were not triggering. Do you need to battle them all first and carefully avoid the ones that need to trigger?

Spawn Mew from a mountain trainer (2/4 pokemon steps are NW) / long range trainer lass (1/4 pokemon - last floor before exiting Rock Tunnel) / Route 8 lass (1/5 pokemon bottom trainer from line of 4 trainers) where you’ll need the geodude line with self destruct ( learned at 21) to spawn Mew. Or raise a wild pokemon to a level containing a special stat of 21 then perform the trainer fly glitch where ditto is encountered in the wild ( red blue - route 15, yellow - cinnabar mansion) * after battling a walking trainer

Could have sworn a trainer on the route between lavender and saffron could also trigger mew. But I haven't done the glitch in like a decade.

It's not legitimate. It's still called a glitch. Glitches are a way of cheating. Sorry to say.

I'm curious. How do we officially get mew in the game storyline without using these tricks? I heard you have to fill your entire pokedix with every pokemon and prof oak will give you mew. Is it true?

There is no way to get it in the storyline. Back in the 90s, Nintendo hosted events to give them away but obviously that was 20+ years ago. Now, the only option is glitching
