I was just starting to target them and only caught 2, but they were great. I used sand fleas. what size/type hook do you use? and how to set the hook? right after the bump, or wait?

They have to be 12" here in Tampa,Fl and the bag limit is 15 per person.

Just as a heads up this is a regulation from TPWD. It is unlawful to take or kill shell-bearing mollusks, hermit crabs, starfish or sea urchins from Nov. 1 through Apr. 30 within the following boundary: the bay and pass sides of South Padre Island from the east end of the north jetty at Brazos Santiago Pass to the west end of West Marisol Drive in the town of South Padre Island, out 1,000 yards from the mean high-tide line, and bounded to the south by the centerline of the Brazos Santiago Pass. I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but it's a good thing to know.

If you have a little propain torch heat the shell up and the crab will come out of shell

It's not that they are hard to hook, you just have to be patient because they will mouth the bait and swim with it..when they swallow..Zap..you got em' . Good eating too...nice delicate fillets. I find the best bait is fiddler crabs. No need to break out the hermit crabs...But. use what works. Tight lines.
