HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!
Today we're talking all about Valentine's Day in Japan and how it compares to White Day in Japan. I was a little shocked at first when I heard how Valentine's day was celebrated. Now I think it's really sweet and I love looking at all the beautiful chocolates and candies sold at the stores.
Do you celebrate Valentine's day where you live? Let us know!!
Thank you so much to my friend Via for giving us a tour of Tete, the bean-to-bar chocolate company that I LOVE! Here is their address in case you get a chance to visit:

I'm not a huge fan of leaving comments on YT and I don't do it often, but I have to make an exception today. I really enjoy your content. I've watched all your vlogs and I love how respectful you are. Watching them make me wish I could visit Japan. I hope you always find the inspiration to create more content and upload videos to your channel!

So here in Mexico or at least at my city its pretty much the same as in Japan, when I was at school we used to give everyone in our class a little something like chocolates or lollipops or some candy and then to your best friends we used to give something prettier and mostly homemade! And then to your partner it depends its either something homemade or something huge haha but it goes both ways woman to man and man to woman.

The message at 13:46 is in French and reads: "Uncadeau plein d'amour épicé par mes sentinents sincères. Joyeux et délicieux!" - "A gift filled with love and spiced up by my true feellings. Joyous and delicious!" Is the owner French? If so, the name of the shop, i fit's "tête", may mean "head". I'm also wondering if she (and their partner if they have one) will eat that amazing wing scullpture!!!! The products look awesome. Especially the bars with the flowers embedded in them, and the chocolates with the local honey! ❤

Love the astronomy and cat chocolates. I have one of these red heart shaped Lindt tins. Every time someone would give me a piece of paper with their name and address/phone number, or card, i put it in there, been doing that for over 20 years and the box is pretty full now!

Not trying to be negative (though i have a feeling it's coming off like that), but i also strongly dislike holidays that are commercial and pushed on people. It's not natural and sometimes you don't feel like doing it on that day, or maybe you just went through a breakup, or your relationship is going through a rocky phase. It's making so many people feel awkward and inadequate. Just celebrate and give gifts when it feels right, not because today is a certain date and society is pressuring us to do so. 💖

Fun! I personally love the way that the USA celebrates it where I just get my partner gifts. I used to make him homemade chocolates every year but we’ve been dating for almost 7 years now so might switch to locally made/ store bought. Glad I don’t have to worry about getting my coworkers or friends anything to be honest that would be really overwhelming!

In the states we do give non-romantic chocolates and candies it's just less-so. For example, as a parent I get my kids chocolates and they do valentines at school. I also usually get my mom some chocolates.

In Denmark, stores, florists, etc. think Valentine´s day is a very big deal. But in the general public, it is really not my impression that it is very important. But I think many will gift their loved one some flowers or candy. Personally, I would not expect anything :-D

Valentine’s isn’t really a thing in Europe. It’s def an American ”holiday”. We do have more heart shaped chocolates and such leaning more to the consumarism side of the valentine’s, but it’s very rare that anyone actually makes any plans for the day. In Finland the day is called ystävänpäivä, which translates to ” friend’s day”.

i have to agree with you that Japanese Valentine's day seems way more complicated than it needs to be. It feels a lot simpler in the US, as a kid you just give Valentine's to your entire class and as you get older you only celebrate it if you want to. It might just be me but I feel like Valentine's is not as popular as it used to be in the US.

I don't know where you get the idea that in the Western world on Valentine's Day only men give gifts to women. I only learned about the terms and concept of non-binariness around 2016 (though i was all my life), and i'm a generally cis female presenting female who only had cis male partners, and both partners are expected to get the other a gift. I'm from Canada.

How does that work for non binary people? Do i get the gifts twice? 😆💜 Seriously, we need to stop gendering things. I want to hit my head on the wall every time i see a "man" or "woman" sign on a toilet door. It's a toilet and we all use it. Same goes for chocolate!
