I did not intend to watch this video but it was informative. I would suggest that you might show the connectors that you removed to pull the inner fender. As well show the primer button which is obvious if you are familiar but then you probably don't need the video? And after changing everything it is standard to check to ensure that your filter is not leaking once you start things back up. Thank you for taking the time to help people with these videos!

Quick and simple - just the way I needed it. Thank you!! I do have a question that has stumped lots of Diesel Mechanics - or so called Diesel Mechanics.... I have an 02 Duramax first year addition - sorry I don't remember the nomenclature - LBY7 or something like that. Anyway, I have an anti freeze leak some place - sorry guys it is not a busted head gasket - no white smoke or anything unnatural coming out of the exhaust - I did the combustion Leak test - and nothing. I am not getting any leaking on the ground. I'm at a loss. I did hear that it could be coming out of an O Ring in the Transmission and being evaporated that way but if you did fix that O Ring - sorry I don't remember the specifics - it is not a guarantee that it will fix the problem. I loose anti freeze over time and of course when I'm pulling the camper i loose it faster - that is why the Transmission O Ring sounded creditable. I am really open for suggestions. I have 250K on my duramax = and from what I understand I am only 1/2 into the life of this great truck. If you can offer any suggestions I'd be truly grateful. If you which to go into specifics and would prefer email gus102030@gmail.com Thanks in advance...

Great video, I have to put injectors in this motor and the bolts on the back of the engine are hard to reach so I pulled the inner fender to access them. This made getting to the filter easier as you stated. Just a couple of things, I noticed you used good quality tools so subscribed to your channel. However I don't think I would use a pair of vise grips on the sensor. I did like like the fact you used a socket on that bolt on the bleeder screw. Everyone used a screwdriver, your reasoning made good sound advice. my personal preference is lithium grease for the o rings but anything is a must, just like you stated. I will continue to consult your videos because you cover all types of trucks etc. and I work on anything people bring me. sometimes I need technical advice. Once again great video, used plain talk and did not talk to much tech talk so even a diy guy can understand. Thanks!

my 06 once had a bad seal on the feul filter and i found some orange gunk(bad fuel??)... it was a super cold morning and the truck just turned over but would not start. i parked it with an empty tank on a hot afternoon so maybe the fuel system contracted or the pressure of it all getting super cold over night finished off the bad seal?? so i just ordered the whole assembly and it took like 10 minutes to install. thankfully the duramax fuel filter swap is a pretty easy job after you do it once. the primer sure makes things easy!! also myself and another friend with an lly rig have had to double check and reseat the O ring because if it's not perfectly in place it will suck air and you will notice it when you punch it!! so treat that O ring nice...

Hey man! I know this video is older, but hoping you'll get a notification and possibly a little insight. I've owned my lb7 for almost 2 years now. Had very little knowledge before then. Now, thanks to you and your videos, I have likely saved thousands. So thanks for that! I've always paid to have fuel filter done. It's very simple, so doing it myself this time. A quick question if you have a moment. I'm not sure why, but my filter does not have that screw in sensor on the bottom. The filter that is currently on it is a Fleatguard FF5320. Just trying to figure out if that's OK and why it wouldn't have that sensor? Thanks again for all of your videos!!

I worked at a shop for just under two years, and it’s a must to fill your new filter with fresh fuel. In most diesels, it can damage the fuel system and injectors by running it empty.

Great videos! I have learned so much from watching them. I have one large but broad question that I hope isn't to much of a pain in the ass but here it goes: I bought a 2004 Chevy 2500 LB7 last year for my landscaping company. It seems to be in the very early stages of a head gasket problem. I have a little white smoke on start up and I sometimes have coolant coming out of my overflow due to over pressure. I have put 10000 miles on since I bought it and done an oil change as well as replaced the thermostats as well as the front drivers side driveshaft. What is the interval on fuel filter change along with transmission service/transfer case service? Also is there anything I can or should do to maintain the truck tru this season? This is my first diesel and I am not experienced with them. I can turn a wrench and use KZfaq to get though a fix or maintenance but I don't know the the ins and outs of a diesel. Also I am not 100 percent sure it is a bad head gasket but from watching your video on buying a diesel a few signs are there. High pressure in the coolant system to be precise. Otherwise the truck has good power and doesn't overheat, also I have no check engine lights after 10000 miles. What are some things I can do to take care of the truck? Thank you for even reading all of this!
@daveho4244
@daveho4244 4 жыл бұрын
White smoke from a diesel at startup could be injectors. If your coolant level is going down that could be a head gasket. I’m not a mechanic. Just a guy with a 300000 mile duramax. Good luck!

Stick with Ac delco! I bought an 04 duramax recently with 93k!! Decided to Change the filter and sensor. the previous owner had a car quest fuel filter installed with a suspect water sensor. After removing the old filter the rubber seal at the top of the filter looked completely different from the new original acdelco fuel filter. It had some weird looking rubber washer that forms against the stem when screwed in...It looked crushed and malformed on top of that. That’s the Last thing you need when the lb7 is known for injectors 😅 thanks Truck Master! Great video!
@eyeorewolf
@eyeorewolf 4 жыл бұрын
Good video for process, personally I am replacing the sensor because it is a reed switch that can fail and allow water to pass to the injectors, at a minimum I would test it with a meter for open / closed circuit, replacing it runs about $17 on Amazon for OEM and that's pretty cheap insurance when you consider the cost of injector replacement. I am using an OEM filter because I know it has the correct micron rating, I have no idea what the micron rating or quality of a Value Craft filter is. I also bought the tool for removal and installation of the water sensor so I don't chew it up with vise-grips or channel locks. For lubricating the O-rings I'll use Mobil Delvac 15w40 same as I use in the crankcase. I will prime the filter with a small amount of diesel before installing to make final priming easier and finally I'm replacing the GM bleeder screw with an aluminum ORB type iFJF Billet Aluminum Air Bleeder Screw for $6.98 on Amazon. The sensor tool and bleeder are a one time purchase @ $17 and the filter and sensor ran $34.74 for both OEM. I'm not a diesel mechanic and I'm pretty new to diesel ownership so maybe this is overkill but I'd rather be safe then sorry. I bought my 06 LLY/LBZ to avoid the whole DPF-DEF debacle and I need it to be reliable and last because I don't want to ever be forced into the EPA garbage that can add thousands to initial and maintenance costs over the life of the truck. Thank you for the video showing the process you obviously have more diesel experience than I do.

That filter looks to be the old steel housing type. The folks at NAPA said they rust out and no longer make them. Be aware that the inside center seal of the filter will sometimes stay stuck on the mount, and it obviously needs removing before installing the new filter.

Seeing as that fuel filter is also the water seperator, I tried to buy the best filters I could find. AC Delco and Napas are like 75$ each. Only rated for 6k miles. Decided to buy the CAT filter adapter and installed it and my truck died twice after start up (2weeks after install) and hasn't done it since but idk what to think of the CAT filter. At least they are 20$ each and last twice as long

I found taking the iner fenderwell out was definitely the easiest way to get to it Also mine doesn't have the sensor on the bottom? Just a blank aluminum cap! Then the plastic bleeder broke i was able to get it out ans replaced it with a stainless bolt i cut to length and put a new o ring in works great! makes wonder if that was my problem all along it had to have been sucking air! My truck would go into limp mode say coming down a ramp to merge into traffic holding the throttle to the floor for more than 30 seconds it would then go into limp mode not over 2,000 RPMS!

Possibly other deep seeded issues not sure yet? According to a scan it has fuel delivery issues or something to do with fuel! I just got this truck a few months ago so this is all new to me! Its definitely not as simple as my old ford 7.3 diesel thats for sure!

I was curious about a few things too. Maybe since your video was able to help me out with simple fuel filter change you could possibly point me in the right direction with the inter fuel system replacement? I mean from the tank up it doesn't have stainless steel lines as im sure you know and i live in western Pennsylvania the rust belt hell for vehicles so my brake lines had to all be replaced do to the salt and rust and im sure the fuel lines are not far behind as they too are rusty to the point im worried about them! Preformance is my last concern at the moment as eventually i plan to pull the cab, bed down to the frame rails and do a complete rebuild and restoration on the inter truck but till that happens a couple years down the road i still need it to preform as my day to day for work! So any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

I just changed my fuel filter and it won’t start. Just keeps cranking. No matter how many times I press the primer it doesn’t seem to get any pressure. Any idea what’s wrong

Directions say to fill the filter with fresh fuel first. Also, the plastic screw is not a 13 mm. It's a 1/2.

Why does people in other videos say you have to pump the primer button like 25 times. Then tight screw. Pump 25 more. Then turn screw again. And then pump it till its hard to pump? I LIKE your way better if it works!

AS often as you can afford to. It also has a digital display when due you have to reset.

Every other oil change minimum. Also can depend on where you buy diesel from. In Canada, Co-op is always top grad diesel and UFA is the worst. Consider also if you are getting moisture condensation in your tank because you run it close to empty and you are in and out of the cold weather.

@@TruckMaster Thanks, I believe in your oil change video you said you changed your oil about every 3k miles. So fuel filter about 6k then sounds like. Thanks for your videos. Been really helpful working on my LBZ.
