Hey! Is it time to change the blade on your circular saw and you're just not sure how to go about it? Well, check out this short little video and I'll walk you through it step by step. These principles will work for most circular saws, not just the Makita I am using in the video! Remember that righty tighty and lefty loosy are not the right answers when you're doing this. Everything is reverse threaded here so if you go with the normal way of tightening and loosening things you'll end up hating yourself!
If you are interested in getting some new blades for your saw here are some of my favorites. Just a heads up but I am affiliated with Amazon so if you buy something from these links I get a small commission from it. This goes to support my capitalistic greed and my unsatiable desire to purchase groceries and other fun things, all at no additional cost to you!

Also, just in case you are looking for a good book series I thought I'd recommend my favorite! The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson is an incredible fantasy series spanning 15 books. It's a hum dinger of a read, but it was so much fun to discover! I feel like this book makes you have to go and tell other people about it, so, here's an innocent little link to the first three books of the series in case you want to read them!

"Cut" it out! I can't believe I just "saw" this. You seem like a pretty "sharp" dude. Love you Uncle Nick!!

Thanks that was very helpful!! The only thing you might wanna add is which direction the sharp angles blade go. I am just guessing based on the direction of yours. Thanks so much though. I am going to try to do it on mine now

Thank you! You want the teeth to point “up” like I have it positioned in the video 👍

This is good. You should address tooth direction, though. Since the 60 you show has no label on the correct side out. Whereas some blades have labels on both sides.

I never know how much torque is too much or not enouch for the blade screw... Some saws even need some "looseness" between the two flanges holding the blade has some sorte of cluch. I have this exact same saw (but the MG) and manual just says (all in caps): "BE SURE TO TIGHTEN THE HEX BOLT COUNTERCLOCKWISE SECURELY." But what is "securely". 10ft-pounds ? 15 ? 20 ? More ?

This isn’t the best technical answer, but I tighten until the bolt wants to stop. Then I got to a bit further where everything is really snug, but not so tight I’ll bust a knuckle undoing it.

The background music is hugely distracting. Otherwise very helpful.

How often would you say that blades need to be changed on these? What do you watch for to know that it is time to change it?

Great question! One of the more common reasons to change a blade is for a specific purpose. In this video I took off my fine tooth finish blade (60 teeth) in order to frame with the 24 tooth. Using the right blade for the job makes things more productive and a better quality cut! Outside of that when it appears that the saw is taking longer to cut the material or is producing a lot of chipping at the cut those are signs the blade is dull and needs to be replaced. Also, if you hit a nail a lot of times I just throw the blade out at that point!
