that's the hard part is getting that bolt back in----right now I'm stopping for the night but I'm gonna try going underneath because there was someone who removed it fairly easy from underneath. On the other side of where that bolt comes out, I jammed a very small pair of needle-nosed pliers in the hole just enough to keep the alternator suspended and at least partially aligned. Hopefully I can get that long-ass bolt back in tomorrow.

I was able to get it in by going underneath....facing the front of the vehicle. Left hand goes up behind the catalytic converter and up to the bolt, the right hand goes in between the frame/radiator and the alternator and wiggles the alternator back and forth while pushing the bolt back in. I have small hands. I can't imagine doing this with normal-size hands. What a terrible design.
