The Super Seicento is now rocking some hugely upgraded front brakes! But to make sure it can cope with what’s to come, lets refresh the rear brakes with new drums and shoes!

Also something to note around my videos working on my car: I’m just a keen petrolhead, NOT a trained mechanic. I like to make interesting car mods and show you how I've gone about it, but I can't promise that anything we show you will work for your particular car, or that you won't harm yourself, someone else, your car or your warranty doing it. Please be safe, be responsible and unless you know what you're doing, do not fool around with very serious machinery just because it may look easy on KZfaq. Talk to a qualified mechanic if you are in any doubt.

Tip: the brake shoes on 'centos (as well as 126s) don't have the conventional travel adjusters. Instead, once you've replaced your shoes and put everything back on, get in the car, start reversing at a brisk speed- then slam the brakes. The self-adjusters will then... adjust!

Another great video! I had my rear brakes replaced and adjusted (drums) on my Accent a few months ago, and my handbrake difference was astronomical as well....went from something like 8 clicks to 4 clicks!

Miller you may find that your handbrake cable is stretched and may need replacing. I did my brake shoes and cylinders last summer all was good but unfortunately my handbrake cable snapped not so long ago..Ho Hum. Sometimes the rear hub will not come off, a 'hub puller' set or slide hammer may be needed to remove it. I had that problem on one side but just left it on and rebuilt that side 'by feel'. Not easy but not too difficult. Good little series so far, you may want to flush out your brake system's fluid as this is one aspect of car maintenance that is severely neglected. I have had my Seciento just short of 5 years and have done it 3 times...It's a 2007 car and had never had it done before...The difference was immediately noticeable and well worth doing. You can actually do it by yourself and without any specialist tools, just a bit of KZfaq 'know how' and a few cheap bits and bobs...and some brake fluid!!

Thanks for the advice, buddy! The cables were replaced a few months ago and the fluid's recently been flushed, just a ceased adjuster on the driver's side and knackered shoes were hindering the handbrake. All adjusted now and it's awesome once again! 👍

Hi my partner has a Schumacher sporting and the rear drums are slightly different no grease caps on the hub nut and the four wheel nuts are attached to the drum like studs, do i have to rake the 4 studs off before the drum comes off or is it just the center hub nut?

1. Subbed, #499 2. What uprated drums + shoes did you get? 3. Keep the Seicento video's coming. Just bought a Seicento, coming from a Panda it's much the same. Just more tuning goodies.

I explained why in the intro, but in a nutshell: difficult and expensive to source necessary parts, not the easiest job to do, adds considerable pedal travel, not actually necessary due to most braking being on the front anyway and unless you're building a track car, there's really no need

TLDR; It's expensive, a technical nightmare & has many unexpected knock-on impacts. 1. There are a few near bolt-on callipers but you're better off choosing a calliper with a decent pad selection & easier to get hold of. You'll then need to get the tech data & design skills so you can get a machine shop to make up a custom mounting. 2. The handbrake cable, best case all you need to do is re-route the cable, which involves dropping the petrol tank. But depending on what callipers you use you may need a custom cable or even replace the handbrake system entirely. 3. The stock 'cento master cylinder is too small, you can either live with the long pedal travel and lack of feel, get a bigger master cylinder, plenty about but you've got to work out which one the correct size for your setup. Or replace the pedal box and replace the entire brake system, then'll now need to re-invent the clutch actuation system & possibly need a custom throttle cable made up. 4. You'll almost certainly find that the brake bias is all wrong so you'll need to introduce a bias valve & set them so you have proper rear brake balance front/rear & left/right.
