Thank you sir for a very informative video. I am currently working on my 2018 F150 with the electric e brake and you're right about it not compressing until you put it into maintenance mode. You now have a new subscriber

Keep in mind the piston in the rear calipers is plastic so you can break it if you don't pay attention to how you collapse it back into the caliper. I personally prefer using an old screwdriver or small prybar through the slot in the top of the caliper and grab the edge of the rotor and slide the piston all the way back in before you remove the caliper in the first place. Safest way to do it in my opinion. Again the pistons are plastic not steel in these calipers.

Great video, thanks!! On my 2018 F 150, it eats rear brake pads. I got it new, and only got 34K out of the rear pads. I drive my truck easy, and have only tower a trailer a handful of times. Was surprised to see the rear go before the front.

This happens on my 2018 F-150 as well. My understanding is that the stability control computer tells the the rear brakes to work a little harder so you don't experience as much inertia dive on the front of the vehicle when you brake. Vehicles(most vehicles, especially older ones) wear the fronts out very fast because this was never an option. I think it actually saves you money in the long run but don't quote me on that. I'm guessing your fronts have way more meat left on the pads than they would if you didnt have this option. I have close to 50k on mine from brand new and I'll need rear brakes soon. Not much towing here but thats pretty good IMO.

@@brianthibault9873 Yeah, my front pads look good.. Glad I checked them out. I only had about 2/32 left on the rear. It took all of 25 mins to replace the rear pads once I figured out how to get the truck into maintenance mode.

Uh...... you forgot to remove the rubber slider boots and sliders and lube them with grease, water does happen to get in and dry them out. Which causes them to seize and you get un even brake pad wear

Quick Question, after changing the rear pads - did you have to pump up the brake pedal to get a solid pedal before starting the F-150 and testing or just fire it up and go? Thanks for the video also, wonderful job!!!!

Hey you said the pistons wouldn't slide back in that easy if you forgot to put the truck in maintenance mode first and you said "ask me how I know"... Lol.. currently in this position right now where we forgot that very important step and the pistons won't go back in to the caliper for us to put everything back together. Any advice or wisdom you can share for this issue?? 😁
@JDubWrenching
@JDubWrenching 2 жыл бұрын
You can still put it in maintenance mode to get it together. Editing magic made it look like I did that first.
@rockymountainsound4815

Good info for the maintenance mode procedure buuut...ya didn't clean the abutment hardware or bracket saddles of corrosion, nor lube them or the contact points. If you live in the north this is paramount or your new pads could seize in the brackets over time and ruin them. Put the lube on piston and the caliper fingers on the outside. Not recommended to smear it all over the pad as it can migrate to the friction surface over time. Also when pushing pistons back the bleeders should be open so you don't put the old, contaminated, burnt fluid up into the master cylinder.

Did you have to bleed the brakes at all? I've done brake jobs on a 1999 S-10 and a couple other late 90s cars and we always bled the brakes after, but you didn't mention that. Hopefully this doesn't come across as snarky, just trying to see if that is the case before I go and change out the pads on my F-150.

How long have you had the fox leveling kit on and how is the ride quality? Do you have upper control arms or the stock ones
@JDubWrenching

I’ve had them on the vehicle for over 80k miles and about 5yrs. The upper control arms are stock and I haven’t had any ride quality issues. I love it.

You didn't replace the hardware the brake pads slide back and forth on and also needed to be greased . The pads will not slide back and forth so easily resulting faster and uneven pad wear . The pads will ride on the rotors more and also warp them from excessive heat from roo much friction . Those.chepa pads will wear out quicker from not putting new pad hardware and grease Slider pins needed grease also

When buying these, did you buy the rear pads that say with electric parking brake? Because I am seeing online in the title of the product that some say with electric parking brake and some don’t say it. Just trying to get the correct pads, thanks.
