Changing the oil on a 2010 Volvo XC90 straight six cylinder engine. This car takes 8 qts of oil and is a relatively easy project to tackle and then you know it will be done right!!

Thanks for the video. The fact that your using synthetic and that it takes 8 qts I think you could safely add 2G between changes.

Thank you for showing us the meaning of the XX marks on the dipstick, its a lot different than a Camry or Accord. I'm a first time Volvo owner, this video gave me the confidence and the info I needed. I just successfully changed my oil, the 36mm socket for the filter is a must! I thought I could get the filter housing off with a crescent wrench, but there's no room for it in the engine bay.

My 2013 xc90 3.2 awd takes 7.2 quarts instead of 8 as mentioned in the video. Make sure not to overfill as it will cause major engine issues

As far as I could tell, there were some improvements in 3.2 which changed oil capacity too. It’s best to check the owners manual for oil volume for your specific car.

What are the torque specs for the drain and filter? I never know how hard to tighten without a torque wrench.

Couldn’t tell you but basically “snug” and not overtight. Both have gaskets so there is no need to overtighten.

I'm looking at purchasing a 2013 XC90 "one owner" with 121K miles on it. The maintenance records show that the oil and filter was replaced every 10K at a Volvo dealer. Do you know of any concerns I should have about XC90 problems/issues with one that old?

Depends on which engine you are considering. 3.2 is pretty bullet proof as long as the serpentine belt has been serviced. 10k for an oil change is a lot, but if it was synthetic you are probably okay. Really great cars when maintained and taken care of! Will last you a long time!

It's the 3.2 with FWD. If it's still available and I decide to purchase it, I don't see myself waiting 10K. More like 5K with full synthetic. Does Gates make a good belt for the Volvo? I had a Dodge truck and a Gates belt was the quietest belt I found for it.

Recomiendo 5w-30 porque es Volvo requisito.

@@matt-diy Howdy, you are correct; I would just like to add (from pg. 208 of the Owner's Manual and pg. 60 of the Warranty And Maintenance Records Information booklet (both are online)): "Synthetic oils meeting SAE 0W-30 or 0W-40 and complying with oil quality requirements are recommended for driving in areas of sustained temperature extremes (hot or cold), when towing a trailer over long distances, and for prolonged driving in mountainous areas."

How do you change the transmission fluid in 2009 Volvo xc90 does it have a dip stick for transmission fluid

If you have the 3.2 engine there is no dipstick. I will have to do a video on this but basically you have to drain, measure how much comes out and put that much back in.
