Before you drain the old fluid, it is very important to loosen or remove fill bolt. Otherwise, if for some reason the fill bolt is rusted and unable to remove, you will be in trouble. You cannot drive to workshop without any fluid.

Thanks for the quick response. I did call the MB shop here and they said they put Castrol 80-90 in at the dealership. Ha, I wanted to use exactly what you said Mobile 1 LS 75-90. So I think I will return this Castrol and go for the Mobile 1 on your advice. I'm glad I watched your video for another reason; I did not know there was a DRAIN plug for it. Ha, I've not had a vehicle with one on the differential. I have changed the differential lube in other cars but it is still a good idea to watch some videos because someone else can almost always show me something new. Thanks again. You're awesome. (I also enjoyed your clarity and the bit about jack points)

better crack the fill plug open first as it can be difficult .... you don't want to be caught with a drained differential and no way to fill it :( .... that would be "tow-time"

Hi, thanks for your video. I'm planning to do it for my vehicle and searching some greases for the bolt. You recommend for "ACE Pipe Thread Compound", can it be use for other purpose like Brake oil change, spark plug or something? I see from eBay that Permatex has Dielectric grease and Anti-seize lubricant. This mess me up a bit. Can you advise in summary which grease should use for differential oil, brake oil bleeder value, spark plug change. Thanks Sir.

Hi. Real quick. What constitutes the difference in fill levels...1.2/1.6 or 1.9? Pulling the vin number.... would this be the way to find my specific cars fill level? Also, thanks for the videos! Truly. Are these 4 that are posted, the only ones for the w220/S500 car? Are you completely finished making any others for this car? Well, can't say thank you enough times to show gratitude in helping us out with these DYI projects!! Take care.
@GarageDynamics
@GarageDynamics 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Scot Cressman, Thank you for the support and it's a pleasure making DIY videos for you. Stay tuned, more videos are on the way! Yes, you can always submit your vin number to a Mercedes-Benz dealer to get the most accurate information for your vehicle. In regards to filling capacity for the differential, it's determined by overflow. The appropriate fluid level will be reached once fluid starts pouring out of the differential from the fill hole.

Hello SkipArtPictures dude. I read that my c230 should have SAE 85 90 but I can't find it so I am wondering if you are using what the book says to use? I have found 80 90 but that's the closest. Can I use the Mobile 1 synthetic gear lube LS 75 90 that you are using? I'm in a northern climate maybe that matters a bit.

+RiverVmanna Hi RiverVmanna, I use Mobile 1 Synthetic gear lube LS 75 90. You can use Porsche gear oil by Fuchs. I've tried it, but ended up switching back to Mobile 1. I recommend Mobile 1 75 90. If you are still unsure please check with your Mercedes-Benz service technician, or visit www.mbworld.org Everyone there is very friendly and helpful.

@GarageDynamics
@GarageDynamics 8 жыл бұрын
Hi +paul rodriguez, the tube size can vary. The tube i'm using is 1/4 inch I believe, but that's only because it fits on my shampoo bottle. You can use a larger diameter size tube if your pump allows for it. A larger diameter tube will also make the refill process a lot easier.

Thank you.
@GarageDynamics

+Andrei Ag Hi Andrei Ag, You have a few options. For your differential, you can use Mobile1 75w-90. In regards to your transfer case fluid, I would recommend buying a liter from your Mercedes-Benz dealer. Check with your dealer to see how many liters of fluid is required for your transfer case. These two options are the best method to successfully changing your fluids.

I thought the diff oil must be 235.7 approved at 75w-85. Mobil 1 does make a 75w85 gear oil and it's approved, but it's very hard to fine. The only other two easier option is to use the $30/L dealer oil or $17.5 Fuchs 75w85

I think 80-90W is any sort will do because changing it is a big deal. But most important is the viscosity be correct. 75-90W is not far off enough to be of concern (might be better for cold.) I doing it on a neglected S600, and it's a mix of Walmart's Supertech and Valvoline from the garage shelf. What came out was far worse than anything I could shove back in that tiny hole.

why do we need to lower the car in sequence between the front and the rear like this?
@GarageDynamics
@GarageDynamics 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Sokhoms, The reason for lowering the car in this sequence is because it's easy to get out of sequence and lower the front of the car first while the rear is still raised. If this happens, it's possible to get the jack trapped under the front bumper.

what's pipe thread compound? why do we need this?
@GarageDynamics
@GarageDynamics 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Dickson Fu, The pipe thread compound prevents any oil leaks from the differential drain bolts. It also prevents dirt from getting in as well. The compound used in the video is tempurture resistance up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit or 200 degrees Celsius. It's resistant to fuels and oils as well.

Why do I need to change the dif. fluid? And when?
@GarageDynamics
@GarageDynamics 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Chopiz063, The reason for changing the dif. fluid is to keep the gears freshly lubricated. A lot of times dif. maintenance is neglected until a problem arises. As the fluid begins to break down over time, it can lead to significant metal on metal wear. Over time this can lead to dif. failure.

@@vahanamy1819 I appreciate the support and kind words brother! Oh, that's just warm water. Some gaskets come shrink wrapped to a piece of cardboard so that they don't get all scrunched up. Others just come in a bag. I was just showing the way to loosen up the gasket if it only came in the bag. I'm glad to hear the success with your DIY valve cover gasket job! 1 qt for 5000 miles of aggressive driving is good in my opinion. I would fix the oil pan.
