In this video, I go over the process of how to change the gear oil on a Land Pride RCR1260 rotary cutter. I show you step by step process of what the owner's manuals on the Land Pride RCR1260 recommends from how to drain the gearbox to how to properly refill it.

yeah I don't think it is something that you have to change out often but it certainly should be checked. Thanks Dan. I am about to be watching that new video of yours too. Trying to get caught up on everything.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for showing how to drain the gear box of your Lanpride. I have a Landpride finish mower, the AT2572, and never changed the gear oil calling for 90W. It's 27 years old and never changed the oil. I think I will use a turkey baster wit a flexible extension hose, and hope to get it all out. I now know what the lower bolt hole is for. But I can't for the life of me figure out why they never designed a drain plug at the very bottom like a lawn mower. But they're not stupid, we know why they didn't. THUMBS UP!!!

They dont have a drain plug in case it rattles loose during operation, which would cause you to destroy your gears once all the oil leaks out.@@EarlybirdFarmSC

@@pedroloureiro9393 That makes sense. It does rattle and shake a lot and has lots of pressure on them.

Great how to video, a little maintenance goes along way on something that has to work as hard as that. Quick easy thing to do to keep that bad boy going and to help prevent from damaging it. Interesting. After how many hours do you typically change the oil? My bush hog probably has 100 hours on it and I have never changed it - might have to look into that!!! Thanks.
@EarlybirdFarmSC

My manual on the Land Pride doesn't specify a schedule to do it but just how. I think some people do it only when they work on them but, I feel like it is similar to a rear end in a vehicle and every type of oil has a end life. I know for me, I am going to do it every couple of years. It might not be needed but it is really quick and easy to do and gives you peace of mind. The main thing is to check it every so often to make sure there is something in there and top it off by opening that lower plug and filling up till the oil just runs out. I wanted to make sure that no water had gotten in mine so I changed it. The person I bought it from looks like he took care of it, but you really just never know when buying used. Thanks for the comment though, that was a good one!

I’ve just been using motor oil or hydronic oil… been 3 years and no problem… it does leak very slowly tho, so I never replace the oil.

It just ran out of warranty last year so I think it’s a 2017 model. I bought it from a individual but he bought it at the local Kubota dealer because I called them about it and checked the warranty on it.

About how much oil does it take when you change it?
@EarlybirdFarmSC
@EarlybirdFarmSC 10 ай бұрын
I couldn't remember because it has been a while since I did this but based on the Land Prides website it says 1.1 pint which is about half a quart of gear oil (80-90w)

well here's a fun factoid. My RCR1248 had exactly nothing in the gear case. I bought it used from the original owner who had used it ~10 hours. I used it another 30 and thought it should be changed. The case was empty/dry. As in I bet it was delivered dry and sold dry and remained that way. So I added about 12 to 16oz until it dripped and closed it up. Thing ran just as quiet and no different that before. would have expected it to have been shrapnel at this point. Nope, runs fine.
@EarlybirdFarmSC

Good thing you found it when you did though. Wow that’s crazy the dealer left it dry though! Thanks for the story. I appreciate it.
@dvmartel1

@@EarlybirdFarmSC When I purchased my auger attachment the dealer (Keno Tractor) warned me the gear case was shipped dry. There was also a warning tag attached to the gear case that it was dry and required gear oil prior to first use. So yeah, who knows what happened back when the RCR1248 was sold. I got a great price, like dimes on the dollar.
@EarlybirdFarmSC

Mine has a grease fitting on the lower bolt. I fill it up with grease. Anyone else do this?
@EarlybirdFarmSC
@EarlybirdFarmSC 10 ай бұрын
The lower nut on the gear box? Mine doesn’t have have one there if that’s where you are talking. It seems that would put grease in the gear box instead of gear oil. On my particular unit it recommends gear oil instead.

@@EarlybirdFarmSC the same thing you have is what I have. Except that lower bolt you removed has a grease fitting. Yes I’m using grease instead of oil. Just fill it about half full.
@EarlybirdFarmSC
@EarlybirdFarmSC 10 ай бұрын
@@blakethesnake1555 I’d say that is odd for that. Might want to call a local Kubota dealership and ask. I think it needs gear oil to work properly and not grease.
