dear friend, I'm writing you from Italy where dyson isn't so popular (I had to buy spare motor directly from England): your video has really been so helpful! I usually do small works at home when family sleep so now, quite 1.00 a.m., having a guide as you everything has been easier and I'll go to bed earlier! thanks again, best regards, Sebastiano.

Fantastic guide! Very clear and enabled me to change the motor of my 10 year old DC08 for just £39 vs £79 for Dyson to do it! Cord retract video helped too as became out of alignment during the process. Good as new. Cheers

Thank you so much for the great video. My heart sank when my motor burnt out on my Dyson and as I now live in a country where Dysons aren't readily available it was great to be shown how easy and quick it was to change the motor. Ordered the part from England, followed your great video and now my Dyson has a new lease of life. Thanks again, your a legend

One of the best maintenance videos I've seen on youtube. Just picked up a DC19 at auction not knowing if it worked. Fortunately it made a noise when I powered it up. Just in the process of stripping it back to the bare bones to give it a good clean so your video was brilliant for me.

Hi Alec, thanks for posting this mate. Very easy to follow and well presented. I've just pulled apart mine and my fathers Dyson's to check the motors as both have stopped working with the usual funky burning smell. Have also just placed an order for two new motors with your online store. You deserve every penny you make on the parts after producing such a good video. (I'll follow the cleaning advice also on your other video which outlines how to strip and clean the barrel cyclone chambers) Many thanks mate, I owe you a beer, Cheers,

My my you may just have saved me loads of money, I am now going to take my DC08 apart to see if it is the motor ( as I suspect it to be) has burnt out..... when I was using it there was a strange noise, then a burning smell so I switched it off, the filters are new, the bin was already empty so I know there is no problem there, when I switched it back on it made the strange noise again for about 10 seconds then cut out completely and is totally “ dead “now...... How can I be sure it’s the motor? Your video is great by the way..... thanks

Thanks Alec, I couldn't work out how to get into my DC20. Found the two screws at the top and knew there were another four somewhere from an online diagram of part of the machine. It wasn't clear they were under the wheels and I would have been really hesitant to force off the wheels so forcefully if I hadn't seen your vid. Now have access to the on/off switch which is the problem! Hopefully I can get it sorted and save a lot of money in the process!

While this video showed me how to take apart my Dyson and I did not find my problem in that area, I did instead happen upon the real source of the problem with one of the smaller actions you took. I didn't realise the hose base could slide out so easily. It turns out my issue was a clog in the handle that had gotten pretty bad. It looks like someone must have made a 'repair' to the handle at some point and used the wrong screw (with silicone to seal it) that protruded into the hose itself. effectively hair and other detritus was just building up on that spike until it completely sealed itself. Thank you for your facilitation of my repair, however accidental it was.

Ah good spotting!! In actual fact it is really neither the MO44 or the MO48. The motor in the video is the original dyson one which has the thermal cutout like the MO44 but is missing the shaft like a MO48. Both the MO48 and MO44 will work fine in the dc08 because of the plastic locator (riser) since the shaft will fit inside the cone no problem. If it was my machine I would use the MO44 but if you want to save the cash the MO48 works fine. Thx for the praise :)
