I have had many comments under my last kerosene heater video about fixing the wick adjuster mechanism and automatic shut-off. It has had over 8,000 views. You can see it at this link. • How to Fix the Wick Ad...
I hear that there just aren't enough videos out there on how to operate these heaters. It sure isn't easy and they can be a real pain. Even changing the wick can cause problems and you will see one problem that I ran into in this video. I hope this will help.
I got water in the fuel and rusted out a heater and show how I cleaned it in theis video.

Thanks Tamara, it was very helpful. I just got my heater today from someone and it has never been used. It didn't have a manual so I found one online. Then I discovered that these people forgot to give me the fuel tank, which they now have found. So I will pick it up tomorrow. I clicked the like button and subscribed as I'm sure I will need to re-visit this video and look for more info if needed. I'm sure you have other interesting videos. Thanks again. Thanks. Sometimes I have trouble doing it. I recently got the wick too low on the back and had to redo it.

You need to get a job reading to the deaf. Reading books you have a very nice voice for that!💕

Lol! You just told me to read for the deaf. My coworker told me she would eventually go blind and I asked if she was learning sign language, so I made a similar mistake.

Very helpful video Tamara, you have the patience of Job - thank you! I purchased this exact same heater (brand new) 2 months ago and up until now it has worked perfectly. I noticed a few days ago that when I shut off the heater the wick assembly was not releasing all of the way down and I had to start manually turning it to get it to completely shut off. Now, when I light the heater, it fires up full ignition but after about 1 minute the wick just flames out and starts to smolder. I don’t think the fuel is getting to the wick after it burns off. What could be causing this? I’ve used these heaters for over 25 years and have never had this problem. It’s as though I got a bad batch of kerosene that might have water in it. Any thoughts as to solve this problem please? Thank you! - Tom

So sorry, Tom. I didn't see a notification for your comment. By now, I hope you figured out the problem. It does sound like there could have been water in your kerosene. I have some other videos where I had to clean out a heater that had water in the kerosene. A friend gave me some buckets of kerosene where the kids were breaking from sun exposure. She said rain had not gotten in them. Then, she admitted they were stored outside uncovered. The solution is to get all the kerosene out so it won't rust your heater as it did mine. Get fresh kerosene and see if it works. If that doesn't solve the problem, let me know and we can brainstorm another possible cause. Did you figure out the problem?

Q. If you turn the know all the way and hold it, then insert the ' Pinion' into the bottom of the track. Wouldn't that be the same thing if you did not turn the know and hold it but inserted the pinion at the top of the track. As it is turned, the track is raised until the pinion reaches the bottom of the track - the end of the travel and the wick should be at its highest point when the pinion is at the bottom of the track. Just my thoughts on this - - I'm messing with mine right now and it seems like its just two sides of the same coin !!

I honestly don't know. I seem to forget every time how I fixed it because I don't do it very often. Thanks for the advice.
