To protect the thread, screw a nut partly on the hub before engaging the hub puller.

Thanks Terry this helped loads , backing up what i already thought but was doubting myself as the dust caps where PIGS to remove, i resorted to hot air gun and a lump of wood as a drift once again thanks david

Where did you get the bearings from? Interesting more like a skate board bearing doesn't require any grease, so I wonder if can be cleaned and serviced and if they last longer like this?

When you put the new bearings in how do you know how tight to torque them up to as I wouldn’t want to over tighten them. Good video btw 👍

Well taping the hub didn't release it for me, then my hub puller cracked the cast iron hub. The bearing race were well and truly welded to the stub axle and the bearings and cage were completely contaminated.
