Front brake pads changed on this Audi A1 1.4lt TFSI 2015 model year. This is a nice easy job which will take about an hour if you are familiar working on cars. This job will be the same on other Volkswagen group cars such as VW Golf, VW Polo, Audi A3, Seat Leon, Skoda Octavia
Firstly you will need to remove the wheel, recommend to loosen the wheel bolts before jacking up. You can turn the wheel out to help see the brakes better.
I start by removing the spring clip with a screwdriver, gently leaver it out, try not to bend it too much. once the clip is off I use a large screwdriver to leaver the caliper against the disc to push the piston back. You can do this to push the piston back all the way, but it will make it difficult to inspect the seal.
There are two bolts at the back of the caliper behind a black cap, these pop out and there's a 7mm hex bolt which you need to undo. Once these are out the caliper will be free to remove. The pad on the piston side will need to be pulled out as it has a spring clip which holds it in.
After cleaning the carrier where the pads sits, as this is where the pad slides, add a small amount of brake pad grease. not too much and always use the correct grease.
Refit the pads in the reverse order, When putting the spring clip back in, I put the clip in at the top first and then use a pair of pliers to leaver the spring clip round, over the carrier and into the hole.

This has to be one of the best videos on YT showing clearly, how to change brake pads on this car and similar cars in the VAG group. I am going to buy some VW brake grease as a result of watching this video. Do you have the part number for it? Thank you so much.

Amazing shots thank you! Did you unscrew the brake oil container before pushing the piston?

Hey, yes always best practice to do that if the brake fluid level is already at the max, if you leave it with the cap on, some fluid can still leak out if it’s going to overflow. Best thing to do if the level is high, is to draw some fluid out first. Doesn’t need to be loads to empty the reservoir , just enough to stop it over flowing and causing a mess.

Hey Tom, not on this occasion, manufacturer’s recommendation is every 2 years, but there’s no harm in change the brake fluid whilst changing the pads etc. nice to do it all whilst you’re there. I’ve got another video on bleeding brakes if you’re interested.

before I change my brake pads left/behind, should I let it be on the hand brake or free on handbrake? or (N) gear! or it doesn't matter? I have been in the store and they didn't know which brake I needed before they see it! so they asked me to open and bring the brake pads to them so they can see it! I live in Norway! I have Audi a1 11/12.

Hi, what do i need to remove the screw holding the wheel hub to remove brake disc please? tysm

Hey, it’s a torx T30. I’d use a a socket and ratchet as although there are not that tight, it will be if just using a screw driver, they are only there to hold the disc in a central position. Good luck 👍🏼

What size and tool do i need for the carrier bolts?
@GarageTechAutomotive
@GarageTechAutomotive 8 ай бұрын
Hey, for the main carrier so you can gets the discs/rotors off I think it’s a 16mm socket, just going from memory. The caliper bolts are 7mm hex socket or Allan key.
