The first thing I do with new habits is to get into the habit before I start tracking it. I started running recently so instead of tracking it daily, I track it once a week. My Friday always includes “how many days did you run this week?” It’s helped me learn consistency without guilt if I only do it once a week.

THIS! I try doing that with everything. Even when deciding on a new planner size. I get a cheapo Wal Mart version of the size I think I want, or even cut down my own size from a $1 composition notebook. If I like it, I invest how I like knowing that part is well figured out. Let your life dictate what works for you. It sounds easy enough, but I see lots of folks go all in straight out the gate and then beat themselves up about it later. Be a bro to your future self. Sometimes folks need to hear that this is a system YOU set up for your best life. No one is grading you on the right/ wrong way.

I love that you are so fluid with your systems. Also, I can't help but be so excited that you are still loving your cover! 💚💚💚

A kanban board works best when you have to see it all the time. What if you put the projects on sticky notes and just on your wall in the office? (More visible) When I start a new habit I put a check box on my daily so I have to see it. (That said sometimes this doesn't work) I love watching your videos because even if you move to a different system I wouldn't do I like hearing the thought process and possibly make adjustments to my own system.

I'm also in the process of revamping my planning system for the year as well. Things started shifting in early-mid February and now I'm just like, NOT enjoying what I initially planned to use for my planning. I'm slowly rebuilding everything for a fresh start in Q2, especially since I'm officially in the discovery drafting process of my second book. And btw, Claudia Kai has several videos on using a lined notebook as a bujo and it was SO helpful for me when I switched things up for Q4 of last year.

Hi I found mind mapping helping. I am trying this method to get more organized and focused. You start by the monthly tasks, then project the on the weekly then to the daily. For work, for housework. I started to keep various planners so they don’t mix up and I have plenty of place to write for each. It is quite demanding but I don’t stress myself too much. I just ask myself with the mind mapping what are the essentials I want to track (now it’s reading, drawing, walk/run/yoga, no spending and I just added the plants as I tend to forget when I did and they are starting to die 😥) I track also my meals and sleep coz I am following a group that requires routines to set up. I think you should try how you think should work for you then you will see by doing it and finding what’s the best. 😊

I figured out how to use apple shortcut’s and it’s simplified my tracking of things so much. I have a handful of shortcut’s setup to quickly log things into a spreadsheet with standardized info. Then as the info builds I can decide if I want to see a graph chart or not. I have multiple health conditions but symptoms are sporadic, so it can be hard to see patterns if something doesn’t happen often.

I use Apple Notes for my collections. I’ve been incorporating digital components and that has helped me. I keep a bullet journal for my daily logs and then just a monthly log to record what was notable each day and that’s about it. I keep my task list in the reminders app and I’ve built routines in that app and set up times for it to alert me to check it. If you really don’t want to go digital, you could at least set reminders for you to check your planner. Also, I know you want to keep the notebooks cheap but if you end up liking the composition size, Documented Journeys makes a fabulous cover for that size! I like the composition book size a lot and I find that they are light enough to travel with. I typically take my laptop or my iPad with me and the composition notebook slips into my bag without extra weight.

Digital can be part of a planning system that also uses analog - they don’t need to be mutually exclusive. All things, whether technology or post-its, are just tools, they aren’t the system itself. I don’t use trackers, for my purposes they aren’t useful and are not the best use of my time. I sometimes make a list, but only when it would be useful or important for future reference.

I don't really track anything at all. If I do, it's always a temporary thing. I don't like the way it looks, I don't like making any space for it. It's just not something I like thinking about. Something I do do though is make like a retroactive map of things that I did or learned, like my writing map. Rather than project goals for productivity, I reward the productivity I do by giving myself another square milestone for whatever I do. That's just a fun page I keep in my bujo. As for collections, I'm trying out a TN. I was really resistant to TN because the last time I tried them I really didn't like the writing experience or the dumb elastics, but smaller elastics and organizing my books helps that. I have a book that is entirely collections, a book that is for brainstorming, and books for my major interests, and that really helps a lot. I feel so much more organized. Also experimenting with Megan Rhiannon's sticker code!

Oh and for digital planning, I find it helpful to use to keep track of only the things I do on the computer. I dislike being on the computer all the time and I don't like elaborate systems, so I do the minimum digital planning and tracking, only for the things that I'm specifically coming onto the computer for.

Hobonichi Weeks IS better than that. It’s what I use for planning and as a bullet journal. Even for a bit of creativity since I’m not writing at present. It’s my mostly trivial fun thing, but also useful.

I’m only part way through this video, but I’m stopping to point out: you are doing what your heart wants. Everything related to your writing is getting done. Maybe you are at a time in your life that is for this. Perhaps it comes first because it should come first.

Why do you need "guidance" for how to do a bullet journal in a composition book? It's a notebook. Open it up and start writing.
