Okay I have a couple comments! I am a girl that knows not much about cars, I can change a tire and jump a car easy, but other than that I don’t speak “car”. I bought a bulb and was going to get my mechanic friend to replace but figured I’ll just try it myself. I watched this video and a couple others to get a general sense of what the area included and all the pieces and what not. I saw what it looked like when the entire front was removed as well which did give me more of an inside look and would say that it’s helpful to see that even though it’s unnecessary to do IF YOU HAVE SKINNY HANDS. If you got big chonkers gets your kid or someone with tiny hands to do the fiddly bits. Honestly, this video is god tier if you just literally listen to what he does and do exactly the motions. I listened to the part of undoing the clips and moved my hand accordingly and boom. Done. Took my 23 year old girly self only 10 minutes to take it apart and remove the bulb. Some advice, you can actually see the bulb through the headlight cover on the outside of the car, use that to your advantage! Also making sure you have the metal prong clips out before you put a new one in is crucial, and it may not click or feel tight and secure until you put the clip back in place but that’s okay. I need to replace a burned-out passenger-side bulb, and this is a good step-by-step. Props to you for including the parts of the process (and screw-ups) where it's little harder for those of us without experience. I had looked at the parts and fasteners, and felt like I may have been able to figure this out on my own, but this saved me some time.

This video can give you a rough idea of what's needed to do the job, but if you want to see what you're doing, you might want to have an "inspection mirror." There will still be a bunch of things you'll have to figure out on your own, though. Also, the standard procedure is to replace both lamps, not just one, because they tend to fail at about the same time.

I just changed my 2009 Prius headlight bulb in 7 minutes after watching this video, thank you. I also have big hands and was still able to do it.

This is a mutch better way of doing it than taking the entire car apart, like some others have suggested. Just did it in like 10 minutes. I replaced them with LED bulbs though, and had to cut the holes in the rubber slightly larger.

I ended up removing the washer fluid reservoir so that I could get my hands near enough to the bulb housing to feel exactly what the metal clip was doing & how it clasped. With the washer fluid reservoir removed I could just about get my head close enough to the bulb housing to see everything. This video was only mildly helpful. It did a fine job explaining the obvious.

so, for some reason everyone else ive looked at said i hvae to take apart the whole fender and front bumper to change one of the healights. i was like, no freaking way. and then i watched this. thanks! i just changed all my bulbs that needed changing. in like 5 minutes.

Note before rotating cover to lock it, be sure the prongs of the light bulb are FULLY sticking out of the hole of the cover.

1.disconnect plug 2.remove rubber boot 3.open metal wire clip 4.replace bulb 5.fold back clip to hold new bulb in place 6.reconnect plug? 7.replace boot? Steps six and seven are out of order surely. 4:55 Now you grab that plug and plug that back in... except you haven't put the rubber boot on yet.

To be clear- the plastic retainer clips holding in the part you need to move to get in there WILL BREAK. They are like a $4 replacement at the auto parts. Ideally you are prepared for them to pop off so they don’t fall in the engine, but don’t try to salvage them they are replaceable.

could you please show the items clearly after you remove them? i was very confused near the end when you showed the rubber boot that you had to put back because you didn't really show what it looked like near the beginning of the video (i.e. near 3:30) so i had no idea what that was near the end haha

HALOGEN ONLY! For the common HID headlight bulb in many Prius' you'll probably need to remove the headlight assembly which means unscrewing all or portions of bumper...

do you put the rubber thing on after you put the light bulb in and plug it in the thing. then put the rubber thing over the thing or you have to get it thrugh the lght bulb thru the rubber

Guys, it's a trap, don't do it. I would rather rebuild the suspension on the front of my motorcycle again than replace the passenger side headlight bulb. 3 hours+ and it still doesn't work. Mine had a hard plastic instead of soft rubber moisture cover that was borderline impossible to remove, no indicators for the orientation of how it was supposed to go back together again, the wire clips that hold the bulb down don't make any sense: it catches on everything but it's not clear what it's supposed to actually secure to, and all around it's a fucking disaster that doesn't work.

This procedure didn't work for my 2004 Prius 2nd gen. Guess I should have paid attention to the bulb model number used, as I didn't realized there may be different configurations. I have HID bulbs Osram Xenarc DR2 35W 66050, not the H4. The connector on the outside looked identical so I thought it was the same. I didn't understand the "small" rubber boot 'til it was explained right before installation, so it would have been nice to see it upon removal. I have a hard plastic dust cover. Anyone, just a warning to those who are combing all the videos for help.

my 2006 prius has a hard cover on the back of the headlight assembly and I can't get it off while in the car, not a rubber boot

Mine is always off when I turn the car on (while the other headlight is on) and then I go and give it a good bang with my fist and it comes right on. Every time. Any idea why? Can I “tighten” it?
