You have no idea how helpful this was to me! I bought what appeared to be brand new stools (already assembled) and thought the lift was bad. I’m glad I saw this before buying replacement lifts, because whoever put them together left the black cap on and it was lodged in there good! I just had the same problem with Moustache brand bar stool. I thought of checking youtube and found your video exactly what was the problem why chair won't go up. So I unscrewed and saw that plastic got very much stuck and I had to poke hole few times on it with screwdriver and then hammer to get down. worked fine . I did review with your link and ask the manufacturers to fix this issue. Thanks for this useful video.

I bought a set of cheap bar stools from Amazon and thought I'd assemble them when I got home from work. A poorly printed set of diagrams was all to go on, but it looked simple enough. I totally overlooked the fact that I had to remove the black cap from the post. Clearer instructions and it would have been obvious, but the photocopy was so faint I couldn't really make it out. Anyway, thanks to your very simple explanation I have been saved a lot of frustration! Thankyou very much for making the video. :))

I actually didn't have the black plug stopper thing in the base of my type stools, so that was one less thing to do. Saved me taking off all the screws from the other stools too :) Great video too!

I struggled and struggled and thank you for your video. I didn't know there were 2 caps. The one that goes over the orange thing in the hydraulic mine didn't have. I was wondering do I remove the cap where the up and down lever was, I took a chance gnawing thru it with knife and hammer. You took it out with ease. I should have watched your video first before assembling. Following what you did, my bar stool works now :) So happy. I almost was going to return it.

Thanks. Instructions were in the form of a pictogram, with no reference to the cap. I found the cap jammed in there. It has a label that says "Please pull out sheath before suing (sic)." Anyway, works perfectly now.

Thank you so much! We got our bar stools at a consignment store and when I took apart the first stool, the black cap was cracked, so I thought it was broken, lol! I punched it out and observed that the plastic cap was cracked on the sides, so I thought it needed to be replaced. I even sent a request to Overstock.com to ask them if I could get replacement parts. Then I put the chair back together and was puzzled as to why the hydraulics worked. After watching your video, I started laughing and told my wife the good news. I looked at the assembly directions, which I found online and realized that the picture did indeed show the black cap coming OFF--not ON! So I took apart the second stool and punched out the plastic cap on that one. It wasn't cracked. Then it hit me: whoever bought the stools originally never go them to work. They just gave up and brought them to the consignment store. Holy cow! Now I realize the purpose of the cap is to prevent the hydraulic button from being pressed during storage and shipment. How kind of you to take the time to make this video!!

My barstool goes up and down fine. The problem is at no matter height if i try to carry the barstool by lifting from the seat, it dislodges from the piston. It does not lock in place for moving around.
