Lol, it says on the front of the tester your antifreeze needs to be at -34F (which is a 50/50 mix of coolant and water). Being at -5F is very risky, especially in cleveland.

That’s true Im in NY and in the winter we see temperatures drop below 0 degrees Fahrenheit sometimes

Not being at or around 50n50 mix. He's losing cooling and anti freezing properties.

No disrespect sir, but you are not using it correctly. It is designed to be completely full of coolant for an accurate reading. Try it, and you will see different reading than what you observed. Mike

No it clearly have fill line, you are not supposed to fill it all the way

I had a guy test my coolant mix at Kwik Lube and he said it was reading -48f rating at least. Luckily I changed the clamps to worm screw style to fix leaking pinch style clamps and added about 60% Mopar MS 9769 concentrate to 40% distilled water.

02/13/2021 up to -30° f in Oklahoma soon! -5°f lol and Your further north. Time to add concentrated anti freeze to your coolant.

The reservoir could be unrepresentative if you have added water recently.

You need distilled de-ionized water mixed with your antifreeze. Can you de-ionize the water at home? I don't think so.

@@dsbennett ... I recently looked into that. You can use distilled water from the grocery. Distilled water has had the minerals removed. Its the mineral deposits in the water that are the problem with regular tap water. Evidently it leads to a much faster buildup of rust and corrosion inside the radiator.

Try tapping hydrometer because should read 34.

Only -5 f ?? When I lived in upstate N.Y. and Indianapolis I'd set mine at -25 to -30.

obviously its climate based... up here in parts of canada you need to mix coolant 75coolant 25% water to get a freezing point below -40degrees which is a temp sometimes reached in norther alberta and the territories

Even colder than - 35 F may be unsafe (too thick).

Gee, mine is good for -50F it must be way to thick and unsafe! What is even worse is my windshield antifreeze is good to -45F My god were on earth would you ever need coverage like that! CANADA !!!!

I'm only getting zero f when I have almost all antifreeze. Should be minus 34 f for 50/50. The owner of video should be chastised.

This type of gage is unreliable. I just tested four cars and three showed they had no freeze protection. Mechanic used his refractometer and all cars were good to -10 to -15 degrees. Get a refractometer and read the instructions.

this is not a good tutorial video for coolant tester. Since people watching this are newbies, just like me, I do not get the basic ideal on using this tester. For experience people, I doubt they would watch this.

@@davidevans7587 i have similar tester and it was showing me similar readings, below 0. Then I measured raw coolant and it climbed just slightly higher. So I have no faith in any of the readings these plastic thingies show. Any idea what is the purpose of the upper needle, near the pump, because I don't.
