Please reply YES or NO of you would you like to see detailed instruction on how to update you Uconnect Radio for the 2018 JL Wrangler when it becomes available. Also please let me know what size radio you have. 8.4, 7.0 or 5.0 as this will help me decide which radio to use for my demonstration. I may need to do all of the different size radios.

I have a 2018 Grand Cherokee with the 8.4 Uconnect. Today, while driving, a message popped up similar to the one shown in the video saying an update was available, but the engine had to be off and the transmission in 'park' to install. I think it gave me the option to "do it now" (which I declined), but then it gave me a clock with the option to set the time for the update to commence. I set the clock for one hour later, drove home, and parked the car in the garage. Just now, I went to the Uconnect site that the video demonstrates, and it told me "There are no updates available at this time for your 2018 equipped with this system." But there is no log that I could find there to tell me when and if their over-the-air update had installed. So I went out and started the car, and up popped a message telling me that my Uconnect software had been updated. Super! Then there was a button to push for "What's New?" I pushed it and it told me to push the "Assist" button in the car for update information. That, I assume, is the button up on the right bottom of the mirror opposite the 'SOS' button, and would make a phone call to some operator somewhere. I didn't test it because it's now 3 AM where I am. Maybe later. A couple of observations. One, this is terrific, I really like the radio and its features, and their system seems to be working and getting better. Two, right before their initial message came up while I was driving this afternoon, I had tried to change the volume on the music and noted that the volume control wasn't working. This would have caused concern but for the fact that the "update" announcement came up right after that so I realized their "fingers" were poking around in there from cyberspace. I had two other episodes similar to this since I got the car (end of January, 2018). First time, I was in a parking lot with the keyfob in my pocket, but the doors wouldn't lock. I opened the door and locked manually, then they would not UNLOCK. Rats. So I messed around for several minutes and finally got the hatch door to open. Then, a short time later, the door "unlock" resumed working as normal. Second time, the radio system went completely dead--nothing I could do to bring it up. It was when the dealer (nearby) was open, so I drove in and had their service rep check it out--he had no clue--said bring it back in the morning, etc. Next morning, though, everything was up and running perfectly again. I went back by the dealership and told my guy--nice guy, but he didn't know--I guess everybody is chasing the learning curve on this stuff. From those episodes, and now what happened today, I'm assuming all three were due to their remote "checker/installer" being actively working on my car and causing the temporary outages. Again, everything on those occasions resumed operating normally. But THIS TIME, I got the warning message and the option to schedule the time for their update. Perhaps this is an added feature, part of their ongoing system improvements? If so, well and good, and I hope the "warning message" and option to set the time continues to go with anything else they send down.

Can you show how to enter dealer mode with the 5.0 UConnect? My 2018 Sport doesn't have independent buttons for hot/cold. but a single dial for the temperature control. So I can put that button combo. That seems to be the missing piece that no one (that i can find yet) will show people how to do.

Brandon, I'd love to see how to actually update my radio. I'm assuming you download the update to a flash or use a usb cable from your computer and run the update from the file you downloaded. Thanks! Vickie

So how do you update the software if you had a 5” radio and put a 7” radio in by plug and play? Obviously the vin is going to show it has a 5”...

Any idea why a 2020 JL would lose media function. CarPlay was working a few weeks ago. Now when I plug my iPhone in, it charges, but will not pull up CarPlay or the media on the phone. Not sure what to do.

uconnect is crap, been trying to figure out all that's need to replace the head unit with a pioneer or kenwood, since the panasonic that's in there is a flaming pile of garbage.. there's a pending class action lawsuit against mopar because of it..
