If you think about it a full face helmet is better if your riding on the road in New York. I will use a full face helmet in the winter.

Informative, but the one thing you did not mention was that some helmet mfrs. have expiration dates on their helmets. Since most helmets use expanded polystyrene (EPS) for energy management, the foam beads can lose their energy dissipating characteristics over time. Giro recommends helmet replacement after 3 years and that recommendation saved my life. Helmets should definitely be replaced after a crash, but a hard fall or even rough handling like dropping a helmet can damage it.

Oh, and the CPSC says helmets should be replaced every 5 to 10 years and the Snell Memorial Foundation stands firm on five year replacement intervals.

At 12:40 you were talking about getting a helmet for the right shape of your head. I have a long oval narrow headshape. And I wonder if you would recommend any cycle helmets for me. I bought a giro foray helmet it looks great but not on my head. Also it doesn't fit on the sides

Helmets from different manufacturers are made in different shapes for different size heads. I cannot wear Bell helmets but Giro, Lazer, and Scott are good fits. Never buy helmets online; get to a LBS and try them on before you buy. Some mfrs provide added foam cushions to customize the fit.

Always use the one that offers maximum protection specially when hitting the road. Cars, especially trucks, will not give way to you. If they do, you're lucky.

Riding on the street is just as dangerous as riding on a closed track course or up in the mountains. I think everyone should have a complete head and face protector.

Not true. The helmet not only protects your skull from objects that penetrate, the cushioning foam deforms from the impact mitigating the transfer of forces to your brain.

F the road helmet. Going out there with cars is going to need a good helmet just like cross country or even the full helmet. That road helmet is a joke. I don't mess with cars and think there gonna see or yield to me. I'm in charge of my safety. I'm not paranoid just got sense to use better gear than what is recommended for my situation. Seen way too many brain injury cause a life way too altered or dead so not gonna risk it when I can take steps to prevent with just a bit of extra money.
