I get a lot of feedback on my shot and why I settled on the FT4 pro, in this video I hope to help other Beer leaguers find the best kick point for their shot style and take some of the guessing game out of it. This is a series of "how to videos" coming from Beer league Bum hockey reviews Boomer 91

Bang on! I think the underlying lesson is - whenever possible try out a stick before purchase. So much of this comes down to feel and experimentation so, if you have a store near you that will allow you to test fire sticks, I recommend that you do it. If you don’t and have buddies who will let you try out a stick in warmies, do it.

Great insight! I switched to a ribcor and had to change the way I took my shots. At first I found I was overpowering the stick and trying to shoot as I would with a mid-kick. I finally was able to adjust by loading with a quick push-pull and a quicker snap-over while having my bottom hand placed higher.

@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews it definitely took some time to adjust especially in games due to muscle memory. But what clicked was how well I was able to quickly fire off hard passes with the ribcor. I was already doing that quick push pull motion with my passes. So I went to practice and tried to emulate that same motion into my shot and surprised myself just at how quick my release became from a smaller motion compared to my previous mid kicks.

As a Ribcor user I can say that after about a year of experimenting I found that you can definitely get a clap bomb off but it’s really hard, unlike wristers you have to hold the stick slightly BELOW the middle of the shaft. If you get low like that and hit the stick hard on the ice before the puck it’ll load the sweet spot of the shaft. My shots instantly became heavier.

@adamca96
@adamca96 2 жыл бұрын
Hand position and how much ice you use to load in your shot are very important to shot generation. Trigger needs less ice for relative return of power. A tack or FT can handle more ice behind the puck as it’s not fighting to accept the energy and return it. The trigger wants to release energy instantly you end up delaying it if the hand position is to low or you take to much ice. Try the trigger and only touch about an inch or 2 behind the puck at most and bring you hand position up 2-4 inches you’ll see a difference. Shot mechanics are inherently personal and mental to a point but the muscle memory is repetition. It’s awkward to learn new mechanics because it’s not normal. Great video an spot on by the stick that enhances what you do in a game the most. I play with all 3 ccms based on my position, league/level of play and whether it’s a wrist shot only vs full shot profile league. Each line of stick brings something

Odd question, and I know it may not seem applicable.. but I’m a shooter like you. Big heavy shot. I’ve scored from my own blue line. Now .. I’m wondering what you recommend for ball hockey? I play competitive ball hockey. I get this is totally different than shooting a puck. But there is a drastic difference between my shot even in ball hockey and others. I’m looking at the Bauer Agent for both ice and ball hockey. As it’s extremely light. But it’s a low kick point. Is there a stick that you recommend for a shooter that can bomb those shots even in ball hockey? Also does flex and kick point apply as much? I appreciate it and your videos are fantastic. Only KZfaqr in hockey I find that brings a realistic / just talks to us like regular people kind of vibe and it’s great. Anyway thank you

I appreciate the kind comments. Ball hockey I have never played so I do not know how the ball reacts to sticks and kick points but I would think a whippier stick would be better? Mostly because the ball has less weight. I would probably use a low kick stick that’s whippy to get the shot off really quick with a ball. But again I’m just throwing ideas never played the game! I’m guessing the drastic shot changes are because the stick you use isn’t working physics wise from a puck to a ball. Don’t quote me :P

I think something important to mention is that this video is targeted towards experienced players who know what their strengths are. If you are a beginner, then they type of stick you use (low, mid, hybrid kick) should matter less no, because any kind of stick can be used to practice any kind of shot. First you develop your shot and refine your technique, and only then should you leverage it by pairing it with the right kind of stick. Curious if anyone has any thoughts on this?

Most were okay, some were flubs, and ... every now and again ... I would get off a near pro-level wrist shot that was just a burner. But, I never could figure out what I did right that time, or how I could repeat it. I play with a Warrior Covert QRL (low kick) ... love it. Yes that will definitely effect it. Some sticks more than others. For example the most exaggerated one I’ve seen is the 2spro. Very few considering the only true high kick point sticks are the 1s, 1s 2.0, 2spro, ultrasonic and supreme adv which were not great stick lines. The high kick point stick like the recent 2spro for example is a wierd stick it never loaded right, had major lag when shooting and felt really wierd in comparison to regular mid kicks. I think it’s the reason bauer is discontinued the surpeme stick line. I would only get one of these sticks on majour clearance if I like the feel and square corners of surpreme sticks. Generally I would stick with the low, mid and hybrids. So many choices to pick your best for your shooting style. Just my thoughts. Thanks for the question!

Maybe at least 85 to 95 flex because I think your shots will be faster but I think if you use that flex when testing on the radar gun - I'm almost positive you can easily break 90 - 95 mph slapshots. I like to take wristers and quick snapshots from the slot, I've been using a Warrior Alpha DX (same hybrid kick point as a the FT4) and found that those type of shots are inaccurate UNLESS I choke up (hold my hands closer together when shooting). I think this comes down to the increased leverage you create as the stick flexes closer to the blade. Going to try a trigger 5 and see is this stick makes a difference.
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews

The dx is a mid low not a hybrid. The ft4 performance much different than the dx and now lx. If you are holding your hands closer a much more conventional low kick as you mentioned will probably work much better just ensure your flex is dialed in as holding your hands close and a low kick stick exposed flex issues real quick. Also what is your recommended flex number for a short load time?
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews Жыл бұрын
Interesting question. Load time is based on a lot of things. If you are say not a stronger person lower is better. But if you can find a sweet spot that’s a bit higher and you can handle it your recoil is going to be faster. So like for example a younger kid using 55 flex that’s not very strong isn’t gonna have a great fast release even though his flex is low. It’s alot relative. My best release is with a low kick 75 flex. Perfect blend for me. But I’m weight trained 200 pound man. That’s not gonna be the same for you. You will have to dial that in a bit. One great example right now is bedard and Mathew’s. Both have exact same releases but they use 65/70 and 82. Mathew’s is way bigger guy so he gets same shot with higher flex. Bedard is way smaller but gets great release. I would argue mmathews shot is harder though due to his size and higher flex.

i prefer mid kick sticks but i always tend to shoot with my hands very close together. Been trying pretty diligently to keep my hands farther apart to get more power. which is funny now that im typing this im thinking about the one stick that i had a lot of success with and it was an older Ribcor pmt3. still trying to get my hands further a part because i have more control while stick handling.

@@halenbutorac5952 I find the Ft4 is super easy to load in 85 flex and provides some of the best recoil and kick. A couple people I spoke to said it was stiffer but honestly that’s probably a bit subjective I guess. I’m pretty sure the upgrades to the ft2 will be noticeable overall especially weight and pop. Load though wish I shot the ft2 for comparison. When I think hard to load I think trigger 6.

@@joemarkivich635 the best part of the Lxpro is it suits a lot of shooting styles. Because of the mid low kick point you can still get quick release, big slappers and half snappers that we do. What does hybrid kick point mean ? Does it mean for Evey kind of shot
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews 11 ай бұрын
Kick point is where the stick flexes. Hybrid has two points on the stick that flex and low and a mid area. It in my opinion is the best of the low and mid. It provides more of a hinge effect as the stick flexes more than the other two. I’ve generally found it better for power and release than the others when it comes to those who are not pro level shooters. The low kick is only better for release when you are a better high end technical shooter. Which in beer league is rare so the hybrid helps when you are more of an average player to your shot

Hey Doug! Yah I can’t slap shot the trigger 6 anywhere near like the Ft4 pro. I found that a more rigid arm can help sometimes but it’s inconsistent because of where the soft spot is near the bottom of the shaft. It’s one of the low kick sticks I found that really isn’t designed for it where the hyperlite despite my gripes with that stick I can slap shot much better. I’m also not a bauer fan these days since there is just better options for sticks since the ultrasonic is just awful, the hyperlite was just average and breaks as you mentioned I also broke one early in it’s release on the blade, and the geo is a decent offering but you have to like the wierd shaft shape in your hand unfortunately.
