" relying on one source of purification is dumb. Don't be dumb. " Wise words. I use an MSR gravity fed bag. Scoop up the water and let it hang from a branch, filtering down into my Dromedary bag while I get on with other camp chores or put my feet up and take 5. To purify I like the Micropur tablets, 100 of them are very light and take up next to no space. Not the best technology but it works, really interested in some of the newer things out there though, especially anything that can do chemicals and heavy metals. As a back up I put cloth over my titanium water bottle as pre-filter and boil it. No moving parts, very reliable. Great video, some really good tips and tricks there. Enjoyed seeing the survival tin in action too, if it was up to me it would be in every video haha.

Great setup for getting clean water. Gravity fed bags are outstanding, let nature do the work for you. What brand titanum water bottle do you have? I'll have to feature the tin more often, got a perfect setup for the tin + cordage in that Mosin Nagant ammo pouches
@outbackscout9719

@@TheSurvivalOutpost It does tie you down to one spot while the water filters unlike the way you can scoop and go with the BeFree type of deal, but when I want to resupply water its usually at least 2-4 times more than could fit in that bottle, some times 10 times as much. So this seems the best option so far, but like I said something that does chemical/heavy metals would be real nice if I can add it into the mix. The titanium bottle is a Vargo Parabottle. Only pretty newly replaced my stainless steel bottle, not sure if I recommend it yet or not to be honest, needs a bit more time testing. One thing I did was get rid of the big chunky top that weighed a heap and I am trying it with an MSR top on it. Seems to like that better than the Nalgene lid I tried first which leaked. Yeah I was admiring that, very sweet looking setup you have there!

Sawyer is always my first choice... I have several Sawyer mini's. Where I am at most of the water I get comes from springs that is 100% safe to drink without purifying. Now that being said I have been drinking fresh spring water my whole 30 years of life... Never gotten sick from any of it lol. I'm also the guy who only brings a single bottle of water "just in case". I know my mountains and I know there's water. When all else fails, just boil the water and call it good haha.

Get the KATADYNE do it and don't think about it again. I've had one since 1969, replaced one filter and 2 of the rubber sleeves over the years. I own 3 now: 1for home, 1 in the inch bag and just because. Used them on the trail, while traveling here and abroad and during boil orders at home. I've complete confidence in them.

Love the opening. I'm doing a video on why BOB is a failed concept (yes you should have one but why) so I might pinch a bit of the opening here if that is cool. You hit it hard- personal, situational, and there are too many bleeding bag names which confuses new preppers I use the LifeStraw Mission12. Cheap, light weight, and my water is abundant and clean. Lifestraw is a Sucker lol and Sawyer system just was too annoying. I think tablets for travel in an shtf is the best move but pay extra for all three issues! As you know of course
@TheSurvivalOutpost

Sounds interesting, 99% usage for a 72hr bag is going to be natural disaster, not civil unrest, no zombie invasion etc. No need to drag along body armor and full battle rattle lol. Is the Mission12 the Gravity bag setup? I see that on Amazon. I can't speak to anything but the original Lifestraw which was revolutionary for its time but limited in use.

I chose the Sawyer Mini for my pack. I have the entire kit in a hard plastic case, I also have a bottle of purifying tabs. I use a bandana as a pre-filter. Not a big fan of the bag either. I like the compactness of the kit, and the reverse flow syringe to flush out the filter. The syringe can be used for other things such as flushing out a wound or eye, if some debris gets into either. One note on the Sawyer Mini. Although it is supposed to screw on to standard bottles such as readily available water bottles. It does not work with some of the cheaper water bottle brands. The bottle openings are either smaller than the Sawyer Mini connection or the threads are different and the system leaks around that. As for those that worry about different plastics in water bottles. If I am in a situation where my life depends on filtering water. The small amount of possible toxins coming from a plastic bottle that might affect me 20 years from now is the least of my worries.
@TheSurvivalOutpost
@TheSurvivalOutpost 4 жыл бұрын
I have seen leaking issues when I used a generic brand water bottle but for some reason no leaks when I used an actual brand like Coke. Maybe the threads are more defined? And yeah why care about plastic toxin from a bottle, least of anyone concerns...

I used to have a Katadyn until it was stolen. Then I bought a Sawyer, but now I use a Grayl, with the Sawyer as backup and tablets as my emergency sterilizer if I can't use fire to boil the water. The Grayl is outstanding; it doesn't require an extra container, is easy to fill from standing or running water (although I do strain through a cloth), cleans the water with one push, and it doesn't require the degree of maintenance of either the Katadyn or the Sawyer. It also takes care of viruses and many chemicals. The biggest drawback is the relatively short life of the filter (I bought an extra, and the straining helps it last longer).
@TheSurvivalOutpost
@TheSurvivalOutpost Жыл бұрын
I too have all those filters, sorry to hear about the Katadyn. I also have a Grayl but my only complaint is the short filter life and the fact that it is all self contained in the bottle. Would be great if they had a portable option small and compact like Sawyer
@Cetok01
@Cetok01 Жыл бұрын
@@TheSurvivalOutpost As I noted, that's why I carry the Sawyer as a backup, but the Grayl is superior because it is 'all-in-one (actually two)', it's perfect if you have to move fast and put distance between you and adversaries because it takes only a few seconds rather than minutes to grab water. clean it and carry it away. Clip it (new version) on your belt or pack and move out.

Berkley make some of the best water filters. I always buy those except for the sawyer mini I have in my camping bag. I use a smart water bottle to flush my filters and carry my water in. I also carry a collapsible bpa free water bottle that has the same lid. They can be found at Wal-Mart are made by outdoor products and hold a ltr of fluid. They cost approximately $3.50 and seems to be a functional option opposed to the smart water bottles or the small roll bag that comes with the sawyer mini.
