Hi Sophie, thank you so much for this video. As a first time parent to a 5 month old daughter, I have just started the process of booking in tours of nurseries and researching childminders etc. this video was so amazing and as a completely clueless and scared Mamma this has given me such a fantastic insight and confidence to know what I am even looking for when going on tours. You have almost read my mind and articulated what it was that concerned me and what I wanted from childcare. Your checklist will be invaluable to us over the next month or so. Thank you xx

Thank you immensely for the insightful video. I have a couple of queries I'd love your thoughts on. Firstly, regarding space in nurseries: I manage two, one with ample space but more babies in the room, and another that's smaller but with less in babies. How significant do you think the size of a nursery is in terms of child development and care? Do you think it is better to be at which one? More babies equal more viruses i assume? Additionally, during my visits to various nurseries, I've noticed varying attitudes towards dress codes, particularly in aspects like nail length and coloring. In your opinion, how crucial are such grooming standards in a nursery setting? Are they primarily for hygiene purposes that some nurseries ask staff to have nails like nurses, or do they serve other purposes as well?

Thanks Sophie, I actually came on your channel to see if you had a video about this as I remember you talking about childcare on Instagram. So helpful, I really appreciate it. I hope you’re well as I’ve noticed you’ve been quiet on insta for a while. I’m looking at sending my daughter to a local preschool which is attached to a primary school, they have stay &play once a week during term time to help with settling in, the staff seem absolutely lovely. It’s a preschool for 3+ so do you think in this instance it’s normal that they don’t have somewhere for napping? My daughter is on 2.5 but still napping at the moment. I really value your insight so thank you for sharing this video 😊

Ah I'm so glad you found it! Yes, taking a mental health break from Instagram for a while. Yes, that's very normal. I would be surprised if a preschool had a space for napping. What normally happens is that if they do feel at all tired, then staff will make them a cosy spot with some cushions where they can have a rest. I expect she'll adapt quickly though, especially as the others won't be napping. She'll just be really tired at the end of the day for a while instead! And you can still continue naps at home on non-nursery days xx

I just had a visit with my daughters nursery whilst the children were there but when i approached the outdoor gate all the children ran over to greet is and meet my daughter so i didnt get to see how they play or if they were engaged. Also it was very messy with toys and paint everywhere but they also seemed to have freedom to play indoor or outdoor as they pleased. 2 staff members outside and 2 inside. Are these positive signs?
