So if there's reflected light, the terminator becomes more pronounced, but either way, with or without reflected light, it would still be the darkest part of the object, right?

Nice, i learn more from just watching you paint than from my art class, they just sorta throw us in and expect us to know everything already so we can just barely finish our pieces before moving on. My teacher just yammers on about tones and making things look 3D but i didn't know crap about values, perspective or lighting/shading until a year ago. Your tutorials are awesome.

@Borodante Why do some painters use the color of opposition (Complementary) to make the shadow? (Eg, Blue object, its shadow in Orange, or the inverse). They say that from realism to shadow.

What if the light is not sunlight but some other lighting like neon lights or moon light or a bunch of other lights like where one is blue and another is warmer or like you are at a disco or if the ball is a pearl? I really want to know how that would work because that is very challenging to me.

so basically for painting anatomy, most areas such as neck, under the nose, armpit, the back of the knee should be saturated due to how light bounces around within the gap?

Hello Boro.revisiting this again.The area on the ball that is being hit directly.The Brightest.is it that the specular could actually be lighter than this area ? if this is right then there is a difference between brightness and lightness.sort of getting my head round it.Thanks.

Hi Borodante. I agree with most of what you’re saying. But isn’t color becomes more washed out (less saturation) as it gets brighter? And becomes more saturated when it gets darker? This is because the brighter the color the more it will moves toward white and white can only have zero saturation. While black can have full saturation. Essentially to pick brighter color we need to slightly reduce the saturation. While to pick darker color we need to slightly increase the saturation. What you are teaching in this video is the reverse of how the color works in photography and in 3D graphics. To prove my point, you can try download this image. filmicworlds.com/images/2017_03_30_filmic_curve/filmic_exposure.jpg And try to sample the color of the brown building at the right. Let me know what you think about this. Regards, Widhi Muttaqien

Depending on the light source hue shouldn't the shadow include it's complementary color?
@csanaderdos9350
@csanaderdos9350 6 жыл бұрын
Shadow is the absence of light, nothing else So a shadow just "excludes" the light source Imagine light influence like this: you view your objects from the lights perspective; any parts that you see, gets light, any parts that you don't see, stays as it was before, the light has no direct influence there. (This is how shadow mapping is done in games btw) You can imagine ambient lights as many points, shadow works the same.
