While this is a neat way to cut a pineapple, the bit about the sugar having "collected at the bottom", and turning it upside-down to move the sugar somewhere is bogus. Plants do not work that way. The sugar is not freely trickling down like in some hour-glass. Instead, the sugar is dissolved in the water contained inside the individual cells. And that water itself can't move between cells either.

THAT's one perfect pineapple ! I never seen such a color in all my years living around here. We either get completely green ones, or half brown and mushy and half green, which makes no sense whatsoever, but that's the crappy produce we get around here.

Much easier/quicker is to lift the pineapple by one of it's leaves. If you can lift it it's not yet ready to eat. If you're left just holding a leaf it's time to eat it :) Buy one of those pineapple corer/peelers that you twist through the pineapple, best invention ever :)

If you plant that crown(simply put it in a cup of water untill you get roots and plant it in soil or a planter, pineapple plants dont have deep roots,) you will have your own pineapples in only a year or two depending on the variety. Very helpful video ty.

It does, but I'm never sure what to do with it. It makes smoothies have a really weird consistency and it's difficult to chew on its own. Any suggestions?

HealthNutNation The riper the pineapple the softer the core. It may be difficult to chew but think about all the digestive enzymes and fiber you're throwing away!

My dad did the same thing for my pineapple. Not all pineapples are ready to be eaten because some of them are green & that means it's unriped. The pineapple is ripe only that the fact that it has a yellowish or Orange coloring & has a smell at the stem of its fruit. Thank you.

She says push on the bottom and if its soft put it back. Then she proceeds to cut off a huge piece off the bottom and throw it away. Its people like this that cause the price of fruit and vegetables to be through the roof. Its a catch 22. people want the perfect fruit because its so expensive , but the reason its so expensive is because people wont buy something with the slightest blemish. ugly fruit still tastes great! get with it and we wont have to throw out 40% of what we produce!

Very true -- She is wasting so much of the pineapple! Disappointing to watch. She's missing out on a lot of beneficial fiber and vitamins and nutrients from the fruit (for example the bromelain protein and vitamin C is concentrated in the core, which also helps with fertility, inflammation, improves digestion, etc... ) -- Also eating unripe pineapple commonly causes digestive issues, as it is more difficult to digest and all the starches have not converted to sugars yet. I'd rather have an ugly but ripe pineapple over a perfect-looking unripe pineapple any day!

I think pineapples are under priced. I can get one on sale for $1.50. That's incredibly cheap, especially when you consider how many years they take to grow. I think her ripe test on the bottom affects the whole pineapple though. Maybe she didn't mean to cut as much off the bottom. Pretty sure there's far more important things to worry about. Besides, not everyone is particular about choosing fruit to begin with.

That pineapple core would have been absolutely edible and the same texture as the rest of the pineapple. When a pineapple is ripe and ready to eat, the core is also soft enough to eat. I’ve been doing that for years. If the pineapple is still green, just leave it on the bench top for a few weeks until it’s orange in colour without being soggy and oozing.

Hello, is this important to remove the "eyes"? I guess it's more difficult to chew and eat it than the core fruit. But I have got a fountain juice from Breville and i was wondering, in order to save time and food, to leave the eyes and remove the main part of the pineapple skin. Once the juice is extracted, i guess i can eat the pulp that was grounded with no main unconvenience. (sorry for my english)

Sometimes they never ripen up and just rot. I had that happen just the other day. I bought one that smelled good at one store, went to another where they were on sale for a ridiculous price like a $1 and bought one that had no smell. The one that smelled good was ready to eat the next day, the other one never ripened and just went bad.

In India we eat the banana even if it has black spots and pineapple even if its a a bit riper. Unless stale, any ripe fruit is tasty unlike the West believes. I have seen good quality fruits being disposed as being bad in US and Germany. Huge wastage of human efforts.

Pineapples do NOT ripen after they are picked, but they will continue to get softer and juicier only. They will NOT get sweeter. And that’s the definition of getting ripe. That only happens while it’s still growing before it’s picked. That’s why getting the pineapple without the green on it is so important in the store, or as little green as possible if you must have one, and then that’s why people leave them for a while to get softer and juicier because it’s even worse when it’s just picked.
@Netafied
@Netafied 5 жыл бұрын
And in all fairness, she never said they ripen further. She said another indication of ripeness is the color going up all the way to the top and not all pineapples do that.. she never said they would write it on the counter. Play it back and see for yourself.
