current-usa.com - Learn how to choose the best location for aquarium wave pumps. It’s important because water flow and water movement are some of the most important elements for a successful reef, such as for healthy coral gas exchange and maintaining pH.
Know how the location of water pumps will affect different corals. Here are a few examples:
When water flow is too strong, it can damage LPS corals with long tentacles. So give strong, indirect water flow in an aquarium.
Know many large soft corals depend on water flow to stand upright.
Ensure you position wave pumps to give indirect water currents to corals that can sting, so they won’t sting other corals in your tank.
Learn how to position SPS corals for optimal light and water flow.
When you aquascape your aquarium, it’s important to leave enough room for coral growth. Placing pumps in certain areas of your tank will put focus on equipment, not what’s in your tank.
Most aquariums have a place with little water flow; this is where your “clean up crew” hangs out, so make this area easily accessible for you to clean.
Learn other aquarium pump tips, such as how close they should be to the water’s surface and in relation to your aquarium’s lighting. The color of your tank’s background and type of corals you have also affect where to put your pumps.
Most importantly, keep pump cables organized.

How you keep the little circular sponge filters around the outside of the pump? I love the two Current-USA pumps; the work perfectly on our 65 gallon saltwater aquarium.

I have a return in the center of my aquarium. Right now I have the 2100 pumps on the sides near the front glass. I tried putting them in the back and I was not getting adequate flow on my mixed reef. I only have two and I was wanting to add the 3rd. I have noted the sps near one of the pumps has been stning. Where do I mount the 3rd and do I need to get a 2100 for the 3rd steady stream pump or get a smaller one? I thought about putting the 3rd at the bottom, in the back, but the the aquaruium overflow will block the air on one side. I do have another pump that is not a current I can add to hook it up to my wavemaker for he other side at the bottom. I have been currently using the highest pulse mode. I also thought about getting 2 gyres, one on each side of overflow box at the top in the back. The returns to the aquarium are flowing in on both sides. Help need suggestions for my 150 gallon.

hey there... I have a fluval 13.5 and two Koralia Nano Flow Pumps (240 gph) - looking for placement suggestion. I have the two returns for the filtration system pointing at the surface... right now I have these both on the back wall towards the end, pointing at the front glass... Can't put on on the filter compartment side and would prefer not to on the opposite end for aesthetics... Will they do the job blowing off the front glass?

Hi to all, I just want to share my experience with current-USA. I have a Coralife Biocube 29, I Manage to upgrade the light system from the T5 fluorescent to the LOOP orbit marine IC LED system (very easy to adapt), also I connect a 6004 eFlux wave pump to the system not only that I manage also to introduce inside the third chamber one 6009 eFlux DC flow pump to maximize water flow and filtration, everything is controlled using my Iphone thanks to the LOOP Bluetooth Controller that keeps all components connected to just one unit. Clean, and feed features make really the difference to accomplish this tasks with minimum effort, finally the experience reach all the way to the top with the audio experience when a scene is selected and the Aquarium showcase start.

Just bought my first 75 gallon aquarium, I have owned many aquariums and the last biggest one was a 54 gallon corner tank. Any suggestions on what power heads I would need for a 75 gallon reef would be great. Definitely going all Current. Current light, current return pump and power head.

Hi Renu - it depends on your aquascape, but we would recommend placing 2 pumps on each side wall and one pump on the back wall. Feel free to reach out to us via our website with any more help you may need!

I have the 18-24 light and 660 gph pump in my 5 gallon. Filter is hob on back middle, pump is on left side pointed from left to right. What is best placement to avoid the dead corners and just flow in general?
@CurrentUSA

In a small tank like this, likely the back wall on one side, pointing towards the center front of the tank. This will use the glass walls to deflect flow.

I've got a 125gal tank with the loop system return pump, lights and 2 wave pumps. Just setting the tank up and was wondering, if I've got the return on one side, should I place both wave pumps on the opposite side as the return or one on each side? Also, any word on when the app and Bluetooth option will be available?

Trey LaCaze if you haven’t found an answer to this yet.. the most common setup is one each opposing sides so they collide in the middle. (Facing each other) then program them so they constantly change speeds.. ideally left starting at 0 flow and right starting at 100% (or vise versa) then the left slowly Ramps up in 30min intervals while the right Ramps down the same amount. A few hours in you should see 50/50 each side then eventually 100% flow left and 0 right then the process reverses.. you can do this with a pulsing wave mode or steady flow... which ever you prefer.. but this practice eliminates all dead spots just about.. if you still are having dead spots (like a 6’ or longer tank) ... then you put 2 more lower flowing pumps (typically about 1/2 the mains power) on the back glass slightly pointed down and towards the front glass. These will typically be programmed to in a steady or pulsating flow with a full Power spike for 30seconds or so a couple times a day. Imop, it’s best to have it spike when the main pumps are equalized at 50/50 but will depend on how equal your scape is.. for example if heavy tall rock left and open swimming right then you’ll want to spike the secondary pumps when the left main is more like 75% or so as that’s the side that will have the most dead spots.. this is the preferred method if your setup allows for this detailed programming. If not follow best you can.. when placing on the back glass you basically decide the tank into thirds and the pumps sit on the lines of division. If you have a big cleanup crew adjust little by little to purposely create a dead spot where you want most of your cleanup crew to be. If you do this then make sure it’s an area easily accessible for manually removing left over waste when you do water changes. As for your return and intake line.. properly setup tanks the flow shouldn’t be sufficient enough to matter compared to a powerhead.. really most people way overpower their sumps. Your return pump should be matched to the skimmer you are using. If your skimmer pump moves 850gph then ideally you want your return moving about the same. Any faster and your limiting the effectiveness of nutrient reduction in one circulation period. Some do prefer to return pump slower then the skimmer and this in effect acts like a recirculating skimmer which can be debated if it’s actually more efficient or not.. Imop it’s a waste of money unless you are using an external setup due to size limitations in the sump. If you are going with a system like triton where your not skimming and main nutrient reduction is via macro algae then your flow needs to be even slower through the sump. This is why most newer name brand sumps are utilizing a dual flow water bypass method for directing some flow to refug but most to skimmer chamber.. Hope this helps even if you already found the answer you were looking for..

Why can't we expand the number of wave pumps on the Bluetooth controller !? I have a ~2' tall 35G Hex I have three pumps but since the last pump is stream only I feel I need one more to get the flow variations I'm looking for. Do you have any advice ?
@CurrentUSA

Hi Kevin - You can add as many wave pumps as you want. The Bluetooth controller can connect to a wave pump HUB - which gives you another 3 pumps. The amount of wave pumps you can connect is not really limited.

Hey brother, 2 name brand good flow makers should be more than enough. I would position them in the back corners (out of direct view) pointing towards the centre of the tank. This will create turbulence and flow to almost everywhere in the tank.

@@CurrentUSA The left side is where the pump is located. If I put the the wave maker on the right side it will be pushing water away from the return and the filter. Is that a problem or is it best. It depends on the types of corals you have, but usually pointing along a side wall and reflecting back towards your reef works best.
