Have you wondered what size fuse you should use for your car amplifier install? Wonder where to place fuses in your UTV's custom electrical system? Here, I show how to spec a fuse, explain when and where to install them, and explain what a fuse is used for.

I'm running Ceramic 500Amp ANLs between my battery runs. I was told that was too much??? @ the distro block, all my ANLs are @ their rated value. Also swapped the fuses in my RBX-4CH so their values are proper.

Hello, great vid. I’m putting in a Big 3 kit with ANL fuse holder on alternator wire. I’ll have an ANL on a power wire from battery to amps in back. I can figure out the size of the battery power wire fuse, but how do I determine the size of the fuse on the alternator’s power wire ANL?

Help me out with this. I'm running two amps one 500 watts(80amps) the other 1200 watts(100 amps). I'll be running a power wire from the battery to a Distribution Block with 4gaughr and 8gaue. At that distribution block I will have a fuse of 80 and 100. At the fuse at the batter I'll have a amp of 200. Does this look correct.

Running a txp1.18000 sound stream car amp. Has been dynoed by you tubers at 7,000 RMS watts at 1 ohm. I am running 1/0 power and ground sky high grade wires. I’m running stock battery and battery on a v10 ford excursion (I understand that I’ll need to upgrade my electrical for this kind of power demand) I do not know what amperage fuse I should use for this amplifier, also if I was to upgrade my electrical, would that fuse rating change? Enjoyed the video and any help would be appreciated

I have a 3000 watt amp with 0 gauge wire with a 300a fuse block.but was told to use 120a or 150a.plz help.its my first system build and have spent a lot of money that I don’t want wasted.forgot to Mention im using a 12v 1600 watt energie battery.pls tell me which correct block to use it would be really appreciated.thank you im advance

I hope you guys can read and answer this for me Jesus I thought I had too many fuses for my upcoming install. From what I understand from this video I need (2) Fuses on my alternator ( can't afford a High powered one yet) 1 to go to each battery. (I will have 2). I need (2) Fuses on each positive wire of those batteries I need (2) Fuses for my Amps one for each power supply. I'm going to need a larger Fuse distribution Block. Not sure if I need 3/4 more Fuses since I am having a Line out converter for my system as well. So as it stands I'm 4 short since I only have 6 (300a) Am I correctly understanding this information? Just FYI I won't be doing the installation I'm paying to have a "pro" install done. I'm sure they would know what I need. But I have already purchased all the gear needed to do the install. Just hate to bring in the car and equipment and find out then that I need to purchase something else to complete the install. Anything short of a high powered alternator I am willing to get. Just want to be able to bring in my car get the install done in a few days and pick up my car and enjoy my music when I come back and pick up my car. Thanks any good information to help me would be welcomed.

I was considering one of the titan 8 group 65 batteries for my 2013 Ford F-150 ecoboost. It says that they should be used below 140°, but with my twin turbo engine setup and living in the south where 105° days do happen. Are these truly the best choice? I have a limitless cyber 12k and a d4s 500f cap bank, and would like to get rid of the battery isolator I have in the back deviding the under hood battery and alternator. Your ideas.

Personally, I don't like under hood batteries so you could delete it and move all batteries to the back. You can also use an AGM up front and a Titan8 in the back without an isolator as they can work together. Another option is to use an UltraCap under the hood for starting and connect it to rear batts with no isolator.

@@SparkedEdThank you for your feedback and knowledge! i have a space issue already so the battery delete and move to the back doesn't work for me. I considered a xs power sb-500 65 for under hood but it also states 140° max working temp also. Do you know of a cap bank that works better in that application.

8awg can carry up to 65A depending on quality and length, so fusing should be under that

Can a H.O alternator for car audio damage the cars pcm/ecu or even charge the batteries to fast damaging them?

I'm no professional but my understanding is that too much power is never a problem. The car will only pull what it needs. Low voltage is the problem. Your subs will pull the power from everywhere of they're thirsty for power and that destroys alternators, fuel pumps, electrical systems. I currently run 3 agm batteries and a 300 amp alternator. That's enough power to start and run 3 cars lol. Just make sure you have the proper writing and fuses to protect against heat and fire

No I have a 320 ho alternator and my running voltage can vary between 13.5 to 14.8 depending on load. If everything is fully charged and no huge load on the alternator even at highway rpm the alternator is only putting out 13.5

I prefer fuses. Faster acting and slimmer profile to look better in an install.

Perfect timing on this video So if you have a larger wire fused by the battery going to a distribution block do you pick the larger wire size based off the total length or just to the block?

Main feed wire to the block should be sized for all items that will be connected to that block added together. Then that main fuse can be figured for that wire. Then each leg from the distribution block can be figured out individually

Thanks Ed. For the build I’m thinking about the amps spec 40 & 50 amp fuses so I’m thinking 100 for the main run. Depending how I run it the main wire and the runs from the distribution block to the amps total wire distance might put me into needing a 0 gauge into the block. I’d like to stick with the 4 I already have if possible. The question I have is if the length after the block should be factored in when choosing the gauge for the main wire.

@@SparkedEd do I need fuses on the wires after a distribution block? I have one 0 gauge wire going to the trunk area into a distribution block splitting it to 2 4 gauge wires. I have a 300A fuse on the 0 guage at the battery, and the entire system is only 1000 total watts RMS

Absolutely. I cover this in the video. Watch again. In-line fuses are to protect the wiring from shorts. They have nothing to do with internal fuses in amps

You just cooked my brain I'm so lost right now it's not even funny.lol I just did my calculations because I'm going to be having 4 amps running in my car technically Jeep I have 3 amps at 3000 watts each plus my bass amp 1800 watts total that thenI divide that by .8% for the efficiency of the amplifier I get that answer and then divide that by the battery power which should be 14.4 and I get a total of 978 amps what do I do about that.they don't make a fuse that big.also I have a 390 amp alternator. With big 3 upgrade,n I'll be adding a second battery in the back.so I would have a optima hd6 in the front and a xs3400d in the rear and a 500amp relay to keep batteries charged.but I don't know what to do with the amp fuse .also I might run5 amps.which brings the total of fuse amperage to 1024amps to the battery fuse before running to the other distribution blocks.Now what smh help!!!
