Hey there Planners! Today I am walking you step by step how to establish your planner system needs so that you know exactly which planner(s) to purchase for the year ahead. Here are the steps (with timestamps):
02:52 What is a "planner system?"
04:36 Step 1: Write down all the items in your life that need planning tools.
08:57 Step 2: Write down sources of information & what is included in each planning area.
11:23 Step 3: Write down how to group & organize each of the planning areas.
13:33 Step 4: Determine format for needed by answering these questions for each planning area:
1) Do you need to have sections for different information?
2) Do you need the ability to add or move pages around?
3) What size do you need to house this information?
4) Will you use printables, pre-printed or draw things in?
5) What is budget for each planning area? Overall budget?
6) Does your planner system need to be mobile?
7) What type of binding makes sense for each planning area?
8) Will your planner be minimal? Decorative? or a combination?
9) How much time will you spend on setup for each area?
10) For planning supplies; make? buy? or shop your stash?
22:54 Step 5: Research & buy your planners.

I’m the classic FOMO, as a result all my planners never last more than a few months. I spent a lot of money on a coiled planner in July and I hate it. Now my guilt is telling me I have to use it through till next year otherwise it’s just a waste of money. The voice in my head has been telling me I need to stop looking at how everyone else has their planners set up and what they are using and sort out what my own needs are. I have started drawing up a brain dump of what I need to plan for following your other video but This video has shown me how to go deeper and given me more of the thought process. Like all your other videos I always learn thanks for taking the time to put this together to share 💕💕💕

Thank you for sharing this! I’ve decided to focus on minimizing my spending and maximizing my system for 2023. My only purchases are the hobo weeks mega for my health/fitness needs and Sterling Ink’s B6 for my EDC. I have to keep a separate planner for work so I was able to shop my stash and found an undated B6 W222. I’m also shopping my stash for my memory keeping, journaling, etc. Not a difficult task as I appear to have ALL the tomoe river and stalogy notebooks on my shelf 😅

Thanks so much for this, Annie. I have been challenged by "Planner Peace" to be sure. But I suspect it's more because I am struggling with finding a successful planner Routine to incorporate diligent use and habits, rather than any deficiency of the planner systems I currently have. I will re-evaluate with these questions in mind. Thanks again for these time reminders!

This is a beautiful method! Every plannerperson needs this as a guide. The past two years have been extremely challenging and I have noticed that there is a huge area of planner burnout and confusion. This gives CLARITY. Before we choose a planner, we have to overcome the SOS (Shiny Object Syndrome) and the FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). Just because you have it doesn't mean I need it. We need to examine our own situation. I need to re-watch and learn until I have a system that works for me. Annie, thank you for posting this. It's a keeper!

I’m so glad I finally found you! My life is completely disorganized, and there are so many things I could accomplish. So many fails that could have been avoided If I could just figure out a way to make planners work for me. You have the best way of explaining how to do it. Figuring out what I need and how to proceed could very well change my life. I’m so very grateful. I’m also going to be using your Bible Prayer Journal set up and sending for those supplies through your links as well. I’m so excited! Thank thank thank you so much! 😊

I am inspired by your ideas to follow through with my 2024 Planning System. I have a spiral bound daily planner for my Catch All. A disc bound fraken planner for my goals, finances, meal planning, habit tracking, wellness and home management that I call my Life&Goals Planner. A disc bound Faith planner, a Backlog bound notebook for Brain Dumps, a disc bound Teacher planner for work and a bound notebook for stickering I call my Journal.

I'm adding my voice to the chorus of thank-you-s. With the plethora of planners available it's a challenge to decide how many and which planners suit and will work for your needs. Your 'guide book' is a wonderful tool which I'll save and reference again and again as needs change and reviewing at each year's end.

Loved your video and how to break it down to figure what will work for me. Too often we get caught up in pretty planning and get frustrated. I use a Weeks for on the go, its already set up and fits in handbag. What I am trying to work on is a Desk Planner that stays open and has all my categories. I do not like rings vs bound. Separating drawing, doodles, and memory keeping into their own system. Please share your final set up and Thanks Much for this planning video

Thank you for this! I watched this several times and went through the exercise on paper. I usually do something like this in my thoughts, but without writing it out, I forget the details. Now I have it written in the back of my 2022 Kinbor to think about and revise as needed! I actually don't believe in "Planner Peace." Planners are tools for us to use as we need them, and if we need a change then there's no sin in changing when we need a change. I try not to be wasteful, but if I need something different, I can allow myself to change as needed. (I also love "finished" books, so I am not likely to change unless I absolutely need something different.)

I absolutely love this video. It’s funny I just ordered me a planner the other day but before I did I researched and I found a lot of gorgeous planners and at first I was like I’m definitely buying this one! It’s so cute! Then for the first time I had to stop and ask myself all these same questions. I was buying planners for looks but wasn’t able to use them because they didn’t work for everything I needed but I finally found one that has everything I need in it. So glad I took the time this time to figure out what I need versus what I wanted it to look like. It paid off.

Thank you so much for this video!!! Thank you for the 10 questions - those really helped me decide on how to shop my stash of old planners that I used in the past and liked parts and the parts I didn't like. I will re-purpose the planners to fit my needs.

I have the planners that I "need" for 2023 already. I am hoping to get a Jibun Techo Days strictly as a FOMO planner. My 2023 lineup includes the A5 Hobonichi Cousin Avec as my main planner/journal, an A5 notebook for all of the meetings, a mini Happy Planner in the dashboard layout for work and volunteer stuff, and the Jibun Techo Biz for my EDC. If I get the Days, then the Jibun Techos will be my main planners, the HP will be my work planner, and the Hobonichi and notebook will be my journals. I am giving up the A6 Hobonichi Techo and the Hobonichi Weeks when they run out.

I don't understand how you can have you " main" planner at home and another one " on the go". I mean what if you need to know what appointments do you have next week to fit another one? Or what do you do next week on the particular day because you just found out that you have an order on this day and you have to go to the post office? Or something else that you have to do at a particular day and particular time? It means that you have to copy ALL information from one big at home planner to the on the go planner OR that you have a complete copy of it in your Google Calendar or whatever app on the go!????? I mean why do I need " a main " planner then if I have the portable one with the same info with me?! Isn't it not necessary then?!

I have a similar system. My main planner is either at home or on my desk at work whereas my EDC system goes with me everywhere. I also have a notebook dedicated to a certain work project. If I am out and about, the EDC has what I need.
