Offset seems similar to backspacing if it moves the tire in or out. I didn't completely understand what offset is.

You are correct. Offset is just measured from the front side of the wheel, backspacing is measured from the back. Both will tell you essentially the same thing in regards to where the wheel will sit. I've always just used backspacing, but I wanted to mention offset as well.

These videos have been extremely helpful for a complete beginner like me to understand how to do my jeep build correctly. Can someone rate my setup? I've got a 2021 Wrangler unlimited 4xE Sahara (thankfully the 4xe has the D44 as standard so I don't have to worry about axles). Upgrades: Highline rubicon fenders Wheels- KMC Grenade Crawl wheels 4.75 backspace 0 offset Tires- 37 goodrich k02s suspension lift- teraflex 2.5" RT2 short arm kit shocks- falconSP2 3.3 adjustable ..... am i missing anything or am i way off on anything? Any feedback would be extremely extremely appreciated :)

Hello very interesting video, I just replaced my old Jeep with the new Rubicon X with Xtreme recon package 35 inch (315/70R17) and I love it. I'm wondering about the original wheels, how much is the offset, and the back spacing? Regards.

The Xtreme Recon wheels have 5.2 inches of backspacing.

Hi there I have a 2021 wrangler rubicon JL I purchased it and it came with fuel assault wheels there 20x9 they have a 35” tire on them drives great they do poke out from the jeep a couple inches I just can’t seem to find the offset to these wheels someone told me to see if it’s stamped on the inside of the rim so I looked and it says ET then just looks like a 1 I’m not sure how a 1 would make them poke out a couple inches like 3 or 4 inches any help would be greatly appreciated I’m looking to get a new set of wheels and tires any recommendations on an offset that will have them poke out a little from the fender I want to go with a 17”x 9 think that’s an okay size I do believe it has stock suspension still not sure how to tell sorry very new to jeeps just trying to do things right thank you

The stock Rubicon wheel has appx 6 inches of backspacing and a 44 offset. As you go to a numerically lower backspacing figure, the tire is going to poke further out from under the Jeep. The 1 mm offset is considered “positive offset” but is still a much lower positive number than the stock wheel, which is why it pokes out further from under the Jeep. Wheels with higher numerical backspacing and higher positive offset numbers, will stay under the Jeep more. If you want to stay with a 35 on a 17, and want to keep the tire under the flare, AEV and Method offer wheels with around 5.72 inches of backspacing, which is ideal for the “no poke” look. I would personally not go with a wheel with less than 4.75 inches of backspacing if you are just going to run a 35.

Great video and very informative. However, sometimes backspacing and offset can be very confusing. Can you please explain why some are sold based on backspacing and some are sold based on offset? Although your video information is mostly mentioning backspacing, when I look up wheels, most of them are based on offset (not always). I guess my question is, why is it done both ways. Geographical? Wheel makers? Sorry if my question is confusing or off the mark. Thanks!

I honestly don’t know why wheel manufacturers are so bad about listing backspacing. You can typically determine backspacing if offset is listed. However, for me backspacing is just faster to compute than offset. Most truck and SUV focused wheel companies have both thankfully.

I don't believe deadlocks are dot approved. Something to look into, dont take my word for it. Might change your mind.

Most beadlocks are not considered DOT compliant (though some are). This has more to do with a testing standard than anything that else. It’s no different than adding hydraulic assist steering or any number of modifications that are essentially outside of testing guidelines.
