I owned a valeting company for a number of years. My favourite tip would be to buy a non-caustic traffic film remover (TFR) which does the same job as the MucOff. You can buy it for as little as £20/25 for 25 litres and can be diluted to 1:50 or more. By comparison the MucOff becomes insanely expensive. The stuff I use can go to 1:400 and has a lovely smell of pear drops.

I remember this video. It really helped me out as I’ve always thoroughly detailed all my cars in the past. But at the time, when I was just starting to ride motorcycles, you had a lot of great tips that were motorcycle specific. The best tip was the dryer. BTW, they are all the same. Pet dryer, car dryer, motorcycle dryer. I just looked at the specs, features and power, they’re all similar. I got mine cheap from eBay. 😁 The second best tip was the microfibres clothes from Costco. I’d use brand new ones for final detailing, wax etc… rather than washing them they become clothes for general cleaning in the garage. Then after they get too mucky, then they become rags for servicing the bike or car or bicycles. Thanks for the video Thanks Andy for the great tips

Good recap on bike cleaning. From my mountain biking days I still use a product similar to muc-off called Finnegans - this is a concentrate so is far more economical. The two bucket method is something to think about. Re a bike dryer…my Dad passed onto me a leaf blower which I still use to blow water out of the nooks and crannies. The postscript to this is the lithium-ion battery needed replacing so I switched to my combined blower and leaf collector. Tested it out on the blower setting first and absolutely fine….you’ve all probably guessed by now and, yes, after 2 hours of cleaning the bike I turned the blower on and there must have been a trapped load of leaves that I promptly sprayed over my pride and joy 😂😂

Can’t recommend this video more. You changed how I clean and maintain my bike. I own a Vac ‘n Blow which is a handy car vacuum but you can reverse the hose (remove the vacuum bag) and it will blow air and I have used that to help dry the bike. I see myself eventually buying the heated dryer as I now live in a climate more conducive (less cold or snow) to winter riding. Cheers!

Hats off to you Andy, I feel a bit ashamed now as I just can`t be arsed, Isn`t that terrible? When I bought my Speed Twin new last year, I promised to myself that I would keep it immaculate. But the weather this year has been so wet and horrible so far, that I was not riding because I could not face the hours of cleaning afterwards. I spend too much of my life cleaning the house etc anyway, so the bike will have to fester. I console myself with the idea, its better to ride than clean. Wish I could do both, your a better man than me...

Great advice! I used to use a soft 2 in paint brush to get into the nooks and crannies. Some of us don't have a convenient place to keep our bikes out of the weather or the salty sea air near sea coasts. When I was still working on yachts in the Caribbean, I learned of a marine metal polish/protectant called Collinite Metal Wax, so I often used it on my bikes. It really lasts, just throwing my 2 cents worth in.

@@TheMissendenFlyer I just read up on it, Metal Wax is for non-new, and possibly slightly corroded metal surfaces, i.e. it is slightly abrasive so as to clean, so on a new bike with no corrosion some of Collinite's other marine metal waxes might be more appropriate. They make a large variety. i.e make sure to read the description/instructions for each product.

The best way to dry your bike is to take it for a 10 minute ride. This warms the engine and exhaust to get the water out of the nooks and crannies you can’t see and the slipstream dries the rest of the bike well. And your pants soak any water out of the seat. 😂

Cleaning my car for the last 14 years with regular Fairy dish detergent, looks brand new... I don't understand the need to throw away money at some fancy products that do the same thing, they clean! My cleaning regime is very similar though I use different products (TFR rather than muck off and FS365 rather than ACF 50) The pet dryer is a good tip, I've used one for years and it's up to the job and use it instead of the microfibre drying stage so as much of my cleaning process is touchless. After drying I always use a Detailing spray on the plastics and paintwork wiped off with a MF cloth.

Forget everything said on this video, I like to do the 364 day wash program. Each day I use a different yet equally expensive product on the bike washing on and off each day with a brand new bucket, on day 364 I shammy the bike down ready for the next day of smugness at how clean my bike is when I take it out for its annual blast........I just hope it doesn't rain!!!!

I prefer Dawn dish washing detergent. It is effective on grease, yet has nothing that I am aware of that can cause corrosion such as products containing salt or strong acids or bases. Not sure if Dawn is available worldwide, but it is easily found in the US. If it is gentle enough to use on wildlife caught in oil spills, it likely won’t harm our bikes.

Hi, just thought it’s worth commenting on your two bucket methods. I would also scvuse adding a grit guard in the bottom of both buckets. Also, try Bilt Hamber cleaning products. Excellent value, especially the Surfex and Sniw Foam, I find them better than Muc Off etc and they are bio degrable from memory.

@@TheMissendenFlyer Thank you for the nice kind reply. To be frank with you, I was expecting to be crucified by most out there in the usual "bubble" of buying expensive fluids. There are many tests on KZfaq proving washing up liquid does NOT contain the type of salt that harms paintwork. What it DOES do is strip wax off paintwork, providing you reapply a good wax afterwards its fine. The washing up liquid removes road muck with ease for a fractional the cost of expensive fluids..... never forget these expensive fluids are mostly WATER ! No surprises to learn I put Smith Allan oil in my bike..... in 45 years riding I've learnt that the heavily marketed top shelf makes are often no more effective than much cheaper alternatives. Anything labeled motorcycle gets a 100% price increase (fantastic Lomo luggage a fine example) Wishing you well. Love the channel.

I reached out to Honda and they refused to help me and said I must have washed it with corrosive substance. I never bought a Honda since and never will again. I have bought 3 new Yamaha motorcycles since and never had this issue. I now also cover my bike in ACF50 twice a year.
