How To Clean Air Purifier Filters (HEPA - Levoit)

In today's quick video I show you how to clean air purifier filters as well as how to clean HEPA air filters in your home air purifier. Replacement air filters available on Amazon here -

I currently own two Levoit air purifiers for my home and they do a great job at filtering out dust, pollen, pet dander and more. They both feature HEPA filters and to keep these air purifiers working like new, you will want to remove the dirty air filters and clean them on a regular basis.
Luckily, in this quick video, I show you how to do this using your home vacuum cleaner and/or shop vac. You will want to clean your air filters every couple weeks or more. And replace them every 4-6 months.

I bought a Levoit at home Depot. For my bedroom. My nose constantly ran every night. After 2 days of using the air purifier my nose stopped running. So the air filter worked. Im very happy with my air purifier. Now i wanna get one for my living area.

Thanks for the great tips. 👍🏼On the large model, I also ran the flat stick vacuum attachment up and down, all around the inside of filter (the inner black core plastic holes). Saw a lot of dust come out that way.

Vacuum out is ok but do not blow air into the filter it will jam dirt in farther and cut down on efficiency of the filter. Change filter every six months as shown on this video.

Yes, only blow from the inside/opposide side to where the heavy dust shows (vacuum first like you did) and make sure your vacuum is outside or else the tiny particles from the hepa will be blown thru the hoover and back around the house

Yeah you know what, my big Stihl chainsaw has a main filter on the carburetor and then a secondary filter that stretches around the outside of that filter. One of the mechanics at work said the same thing to me about those filters. I blow both of them out with my air compressor. I’ve been using those filters for over twenty years. Guess what, my chainsaw still runs like a champ. If this guy does the same thing with his filter, then I’m going to do what he suggests. Because quite frankly I don’t want to purchase a new filter every three or four weeks

That’s what I do to extend the life of the filter. It’s a good hack. Those filters are expensive!

Use the vacuum hose with brush extension. Much easier than just cervic tool

@@JMGENTERPRISEShey it’s Matthew again, do you possibly know anything about “Ganiza Air Purifiers “? It has a indicator light that changes according to the air quality in your home. Green is good, yellow is kinda in between and ending in red which is obviously bad. I’ve read the owners manual and I’ve looked on KZfaq and asked the internet hoping for a answer on how to reset my air purifier all to no avail. I suppose you wouldn’t by any chance know how to reset that would you? It’s made in China and they don’t have a toll free service number for me to call and ask. And I’ve unplugged it hoping that might reset it, and I’ve looked at the purifier itself and I can’t figure out how to reset that. I suppose if I can’t figure it out then I’ll just return it to Amazon for a refund.

Are you blowing with or against the direction of the filtration air flow? It does make a difference.

Do you know how to clean the blades inside of this? I was moving my purifier and accidentally it disassembled and sucked in all that accumulated dust into the blades. Now it seems to blow more dust into air than filter and I am at loss.

If you blow from the inside of the filter (reverse normal airflow) you might get better results. Blowing from the inside while sucking from the outside would be the best I would think (if you have that option).

Honestly, I notice more dust come off the big filter. I think I had just waited longer in between cleaning the smaller one so it had more dust in the video. They both work great. Small one is good for bedrooms.

My red filter warning symbol comes on as soon as i press the power on. And ive given the filter its first clean, im guessing flow restriction is the only thing to trigger the warning??

So the filter is still fairly new? Have you tried resetting the filter light by pressing and holding it down? The filter light usually just goes off at scheduled times.

The noise level depends on the 1-3 settings with how hard you want the machine to work. You can also upgrade the filters and get one better for pet hair and smells which is a must have in my home. I noticed the air seemed lighter and easier to breathe when running the machine for the first time. Works great every time. Highly recommended!

My purifier has a light to let me know when to replace the filter, my question is do I actually need to replace the filter as soon as the light comes on, or can it still be used a few more times first?? Also, my filter has never looked as dirty as the ones in this video, and I only clean it once or twice a month, so does that mean the filter can be used longer???

The light is just on a standard timer. I would remove the filter and take a look. Typically, you can get a month or two more once the filter light comes on but this is variable.

Unless the filter says it's washable, I wouldn't recommend it. Easy way for mold to grow unless you let it dry for a for a full day in 100 degree heat.

These filters look clean now, but their efficiency is reduced. I vacuum mine quarterly but bite the bullet yearly and replace.

I have a strong in house vacuum cleaner that cleans the outside of the filter. The problem is that I can't clean the inside black of the filter which has lots of dust. No pets and I have been using it for only one month.

I can take out the filter, it's like your larger air purifier. I can vacuum the outside of it, but not the inside black part. I mean I vacuum it but the dust does not come out. My vacumn is a Panasonic and very strong, but it does not have the ability to blow, just vacumn in.

There's four different speed settings for the fan. I usually leave mine on 2-3. Speed setting 4 I find a bit loud.

Loud on the higher setting but it clears the air superfast. At the lower speeds when air is ok and night/sleep mode it's very quiet

@@abdullaharshad9297 Most Levoit filters are not washable. The water can damage the filter. Maybe they have new filters out that can be rinsed. Check the instructions your filter came with and see what it says.

@@JMGENTERPRISES I bought 2 filters for my Levoit core 300 hepa air purifiers for the price of one last night. I need the right kind of vaccume. Mine is a stand up with no parts. Could I use my husbands shop vac? Or i was thinking of getting a hand held vac. Like a dust buster and just keep it for my hepa filters. I noticed on top of the put together air purifier collects dust. Can i clesn that somehow. The gray part on top with the buttons and swirl pattern gets dusty. But i need to know how or if i can even clean it.

That's what I do. Give it a good rinse. Just make sure to let it dry for about 5 hours in the warm Sun to avoid mold growth. With the weather we have been having in So Cal this summer, it drys rather quickly.

With HEPA filters, don’t do it; water will ruin the fiber arrangement and will destroy the filter’s capabilities.

Respectfully, not particularly good advice. With "True" Hepa filters you don't want to be able to clean them. They are not designed to be cleaned. Air pressure is their enemy. Just vacuum the pre-filter if equipped. Hope I've helped.

Levoit air purifier does not work came with 1 year warranty and Levoit customer service only responds via email and response is 30 day refund only😝 anyone else had this happen?

I was sleep deprived and on adhd medication and I saw my filter needed to be cleaned. Instead of looking up how to clean it, I literally ripped the fabric covering the filter off and got dust everywhere ☠️ moral of the story, do not try to clean your air purifier at 2 in the morning without a tutorial and minimal sleep.

This doesn't do anything for the finer particles trapped inside the filter. The video is the same as wiping down condens from a water bottle. 6-8 months of filtration is great value, just buy a replacement.
