How to Clean an OSS Suppressor

Generally, cleaning isn't one of the most fun things to do in life, but cleaning out this suppressor was a blast! I take you through my first OSS cleaning experience and show you some things that I learned to do, and what not to do when cleaning your own. Enjoy!

Nice. The threaded PVC tube was a great idea. You will never get it showroom clean because every round has propellant. I think the front didn’t respond as the rest of the can because you only poured the cleaning solution to the very top of the can. Once you closed the PVC you leaned it on the edge of the bucket. This probably caused a portion of the top of the can to rise out of the solution. Just fill it up a little higher next time. Yes a carbine gas system causes more back pressure but your cleaner served to push out dirt through portions of the system that Benifit from the cleaning. Try a face shield for this cleaning method, though OSS recommends a dry suppressor before shooting. Otherwise you did a phenomenal job and I will use this technique. OBTW Dude, U got a Magnum, ha-daumm!

Using a single shot or bolt action is a good idea. That was my biggest issue with the way they suggest cleaning it.

I think OSS used a tennis ball tube. That might be easier if it fits your can.

Does this affect the finish of the can in any way?

No it does not. At least not in my experience with this CLP. The only time I’ve seen the finish affected is through full auto fire and it just changed the color a bit

Did you notice the can getting quieter the more you shot before you cleaned it?

Can’t say for sure. Would have to shoot them side by side. It’s safe to assume it’s quieter when dirty. However at the end of the day super sonic ammo never really is that quiet.

Did it turn to gel because it ate away at the plastic tube or does it do this on its own?

It reacted with all the gunk/build up on the inside of the suppressor. Ate away at it and resulted in that goo. The tube wasn’t affected 👍

Have not shot at night but during the day I have never noticed any sort of flash. If I get time maybe I can do a video on it. Their new 556 can has a flash hider built in

Thank you. And nope, if your gun runs correctly without a suppressor, it will operate the same when suppressed with the OSS.

So how do you clean it if you don't have your own private range? I can't imagine any ranges being ok with you blowing gunk all over their range.

Good question. I think towards the end of the video I explain that there are two ways to clean them. Ranges prefer that you soak them, let them dry, then take them and shoot the dry gunk out since the CLP broke it all up. Not supposed to make a mess like you saw in this video.

You say it at 7:33 in the video, thank you for the reply or else I would still be in the dark on that! I've been really interested in finally getting a suppressor and the OSS really has my interest. I was hoping to see some comparisons of it against Sig's new flow though design suppressor but there is no video on those yet besides the shot show booth videos.

biggboysouth yeah then oss is definitely the way to go. If you go to my channel I have a review on the oss magnum, you might want to check it out it’s got a good amount of subjective experience in there that could help you learn more.

Your cleaning the old out but because it’s wet inside all the new powder is getting stuck you need to soak then rinse with water hood then let dry then shoot

Mine are titanium so ur not supposed to. Also I feel like sonic cleaners don’t do good at cleaning inside things with designs like suppressors. I threw my whole .22 baffle stack in and only the outsides got cleaned

Well, one thing good about baffles is you don’t have to clean them.

Originally I would have agreed, but to my knowledge, one of the reasons the military has signed on with OSS is because baffle cans do build up with material over time which increases weight and reduces internal volume which leads to less sound reduction and less flash suppression. I’m not in the military and I’m not an expert but those are my 2 cents anyway.

No. That’s not how these cans work. Not only is this OSS’ recommended procedure, but it is now the OFFICIAL method for the United States military since they adopted the OSS 7.62 can. The requirement for the can was that it be user serviceable, and this procedure met that standard and was adopted.
