Instead of rolling the car forward to get to the rubber touching the floor, just use 4 small blocks of wood and drive the car on to them before you start cleaning. You can then clean and treat the tyres without having to move the car.

My go to for maintenance wheel cleanings is Chemical Guys sticky citrus. It's made to be diluted 1:5 ratio, so the 16 oz bottle makes 96 oz. CG's Diablo is also a good one, same dilution. When my wheels are really bad I reach for the brand new Mequiars All Wheel Cleaner, this is a thicker, HD, color changing wheel cleaner. Leave it on for 5 minutes and get our tour favorite brushes and have at it! Leaving it on longer is ok but ofcoarse the wheel has to be cool. For tires the brand new 303 tire and rubber cleaner is outstanding! While I'm talking about 303 their new tire balm is my go to dressing. It acts like a coating, meaning in 10 mins its dry to the touch, you can add 2 more coats with 10 mins of drying time inbetween if you want a little more. Hope this helps out someone out there, love this channel, it's one of the best going😎

Thanks for the video, After using many of Tyre shines over the years, I have found that my favorite at the moment is the Auto Finesse Satin creme. It drys well, give a deep black satin finish and lasts very well as well as the bottle will last you a very long time. Applying it with their Hockey puk is a brilliant addition too.

I use those cheap sprays of tyre shine products, then work it into and around the tyre with an old boot brush l keep for that job. I leave it to dry a bit then buff it again with the same brush, this leaves a flat black, new tyre type finish. A week or two later, a quick buff up with the same brush restores that new tyre look without using more dressing , works well for me anyway. Thank you sir for another informative well presented video.

I got my Tuffshine a few months back and find it superb with Grimeout. Dressing wise, I used the Zaino stuff for years but use Perl these days. Both give a satin finish which I prefer. I use a little washing up sponge to apply (not the green scrubbing side!) I get the hand me downs from the Mrs when she’s done with them.

Another awesome video thank you so much. I've been subscribed for a long time don't know how I missed this one till now. An added tip getting the whole tire without rolling the car - I do this with every wash. I roll up on a couple blocks of wood to raise the wheels off the ground. Being raised helps when power washing but mostly brushing and dressing the tires. I used a 2x4 lumber I had laying around. It was about an hour of work. Whole thing is probably under USD$15. Using a miter saw I cut the 2x4 into four 22.5" lengths at 45° angle. Then screwed a 2.75" block on the back as a stopper. The OCD part of me coated twice with Rust-Oleum outdoor enamel from Home Depot (one can was more than enough). This helps keep them from saturating with water. The blocks of wood got soggy after a wash. These are light, stack up small and do the trick. The cut dimensions are just the right size for the 18" wheels, I would go 24"+ for larger wheels. Not sure if these pic links will work but check it out. drive.google.com/file/d/1BoOLokbrG3F1nKCciSYsLE2xkmuvY93p/view?usp=sharing drive.google.com/file/d/1jsPUYYhwOKuzhygUNl-JQJQ08HRbkTBp/view?usp=sharing drive.google.com/file/d/1XiuRRYb-R8TW_giorpLQDzgbQOuv7oFu/view?usp=sharing drive.google.com/file/d/1RuKPQLLjey-jEus3NIJx9p6OK_dWBRDT/view?usp=sharing drive.google.com/file/d/1kJVBYfw0gX25rTg_Jv3ccfVddbo8afsH/view?usp=sharing drive.google.com/file/d/116AQ2nNH0AwXhDguACEaldwLHRg5zrkW/view?usp=sharing drive.google.com/file/d/1KHHGXetZQsWWROKt7mHozIhG0p2x8BfH/view?usp=sharing drive.google.com/file/d/1HGTrdXY0DSpAO0NT-cjjufFKz-b68xwi/view?usp=sharing

About a year ago I was using Eagle one AtoZ wheel and tire cleaner in the orange bottle. It wasnt much of a wheel cleaner but let me tell you for tires, as soon as it hit the rubber the suds would turn copper brown and all's you needed to do was rinse them off before they dried back into the side wall. Unfortunately I believe eagle one changed their formula cause it's not as potent but it still does an amazing job decreasing tires and even but it was 3 dollars for 23floz. Now's its 5.50 for the same bottle.

Great video thank you just what i was looking for the other day :) and have to admit i was surprised how much dirt came out of the tyres when they looked reasonably clean, i'm not a pro valetor i only watch your videos to learn for my own personal car nothing fancy or sporty just a mk2 facelift focus always wanted one since they first came out and its my baby i drive my girlfriend barmy the way i clean it and look after it hahaha i believe a car is an extension of a person and to look after it how you would look after yourself (my personal opinion) but anyways thank you for taking the time to do this nice in depth video helped me out alot and showed me where i was going wrong with dressing my tyres and why it only lasted a few days :)

Hi John, I use Adams VRT and PERL so it was bizarre to see you using the same combination. I hadn't used the microfiber post scrubbing of the tyre so will give that a go and I'll purchase the Tuff Shine brush, I'd seen Matt speaking highly of it and since you're a big fan too I'll track one down. As an aside with the PERL I screwed on top an old Adams shampoo dispenser lid, much easier to control than the spray or pour method. Keep going with this style of vlog where you focus on a specific area, its the primary reason I watch both Matt and you (well Matt also has the GT3 RS but then again I drive a little M135i so we have a common connection). All the best Kevin.

Another really interesting video. I would add that if you have the option to lift the tyre off of the ground and release the handbrake / put the car into neutral so the wheel spins, it allows all the tyre to be reached and the wheel to be rotated for more comfortable working. Also, I think there are 2 real types of tyre wall. The first is ones that have already been cleaned and not over dressed that just require a light going over with a brush. The second type are a real pain to clean... ones that have had oil based tyre dressing applied over and over to leave a greasy film. I find an additional step is necessary. That is to use a tar and glue remover on a microfibre cloth to wipe and scrub. Then repeat the degreasing process. My only other little tip is not to forget the little lip that runs around the tyre wall both with cleaning and dressing. I have tested a number of dressings and the one I use is Swissvax Pneu. This is because it is absorbed by the tyre wall, doesn't sling, doesn't leave any residue and produces a subtle satin finish so no one looks at the car and thinks those tyres have been dressed. They just look a beautiful satin black to offset the commonly silver alloy. It is pricey to say the least, but a little goes a long way. In terms of applicators, I like the Flexipads Split Foam Applicator Pad. It is easy to manipulate around the tyre wall, lasts a long time and is only £2.

I use Angelwax Elixir after I saw your review of it. I like it because of the New Clean Tire look as opposed to the greasy tire look. Also its really cheap and you use so little it. Also lasts for a long time I've noticed. At least on my old tires. Haven't had as much luck on my new ones. But I haven't done a deep cleaning of them yet so It's probably a dirty tire issue. Interested in the Adams TIre shine though and will try to find a sample.

I have a karcher commercial hot/cold pressure washer so that cleans the tyres on my car without any scrubbing. As far as tyre dressings go I found Meguairs Endurance to viscous, so to make it ‘thinner’ and easier to apply I mixed in some Meguairs ‘hot wheels’ it which makes it easier to apply and still retains its longevity which Endurance’ is renown for!

Jon as per usual a very good video. I love your style, no preaching just leaving it to the viewer to decide how much or how little to follow. I also love the high quality which makes viewing very easy. I am not a member of the thought police but may I politely suggest you use gloves when using the products. Many moons ago I used to come into frequent contact with a product which no one gave any thought too. Guess what, about 15 years later it was discovered it was carcinogenic which wasn't known previously. Roll on more moons and I got a pressie of cancer, absolutely no idea if the two were linked so what may seem safe today may not be tomorrow.

33:30 Look up "Car Professional Tyre Tire Dressing Applicator Curved Foam Sponge Pad" on AliExpress or on eBay! Good quality curved applicators that follow the shape of the tire. They're $2.5-3 for 10 pieces, so like $0.25-0.3 a piece. And they last a lot longer than regular foam pad applicators (partly because you have to rub them less against the tire, as they follow the latter's curvature). They are also perfect for getting into that crevice between the tire rim and the tire rubber.

We bought an ex hire Golf. 11 months old. At first MOT, there's an advisory on the tyres perishing, and sure enough, they are. So, there you go, seems very likely that high concentration caustic cleaners of the sort hire places use do cause problems with the tyre perishing. Wheels are fine, though they were probably refinished before sale (from VW dealer).

I use and can't fault Surfex HD at 20% dilution with an Atlasta stiff bristle brush myself. .I enjoy the smaller head of it as you can better control and keep it away from the edge of the alloys. 20% is likely a little OTT dilution wise but I find at this strength with the MF wipe down like you do, I only need to clean the tyre once to have it close to spotless. Dressing wise I use a whole host of different ones. Obsession Wax Nero, AW Elixir, Lucas Oil Slick Mist Tyre Dressing, Wowo's Tyre Restorer... All excellent dressings. Only had a few I didn't particularly rate.

Another great video Jon 👍I recently bought a couple of sponge tyre shine applicator pads on eBay. Not cheap at £7.46 for 2 delivered but boy are they good! Search eBay for 'Ultra Durable Foam Sponge Car Tyre' and you should find them, they are orange and grey. I can't see them disintegrating anytime soon, they are pretty tough and did a fantastic job yesterday. I just found myself wondering what sort of job my TAC Systems Shinee Wax would make of tyre sidewalls? Hydrophobic so that's a plus but would it be slippery and hence a bit risky if got onto the actual treaded part I wonder. May do a test on half a tyre tomorrow

Tried the TAC Shinee Wax, poor result. It's not meant for tyres so no surprise, just an experiment.

SUVs often have running boards with black rubber. Pickup trucks have them and also black rubber steps in the rear bumper. I would like to shine them and make them easier to maintain but I don't want to make them slippery. What do you recommend?

Yeah, I have diamond cut alloys and had no other means to clean the car than taking it to one of these £5 valet jobbies (or supermarket carwash!). The acidic stuff they spray on at the start have ruined my alloys, they've gone all milky and corroded now :(

not sure, it will be alkaline though. you cant infer "that" much from PH.. even if something is PH 13 is can still mild. depends on the chems used.

that was one I passed on. respect to the guy that runs it he seems like a good guy that believes in his product and has probably had a gutfull of peeps talking about the price. but Ive got to be able to use it and actually see myself buying it to be able to recomend it and I cant see beyond the price tag. Its outside of what I am prepared to pay. a tyre is a perishable item. yes dressing them is cool but I want something I can sling on their quickly thats cost efffective. good luck to him though, the industry needs businesses to pioneer things which are different like this.. sometimes cool things will come of it. maybe my loss who knows.

If you recommend multiple passes regardless of the cleaner I wouldn't want to fork the cost considering how much product 2-3 passes on 4 tyres would use up.
@ForensicDetailing

koch chemie at 10-1 costs 5 pounds for 10 litres of product. The extra cost is a few squirts at 50p a litre.. your talking like and extra 2p of product for all 4 tyres. Id save more money by not turning the lights on.. Its kind of negligable.. but listen, one pass might be fine who knows. I tend to find though a second going over is normally needed on dirty tyres at least if you going the extra mile and then dressing them..

a mild acid or low concentration acid will break down water spots. If you dont have any products to have a lemon can do it or even distilled vinegar.. other wise a good water spot remover. I tend to use koch FSE for that.

not sure if it helps but i used distilled water and distilled white vinegar mixed at a ratio of 50/50 on my windows worked really well i read up on a lot of forums to use on paintwork too only problem with the paintwork was it removed the wax from the car too so had to re wax mine and re wash before i re wax to remove the vinegar but it did work removed all my water spots i got during the winter i would use on windows again but not sure on paint work unless someone like this guy said it was ok to do so as it was the most fearing thing i have done to my car i was panicking every time i sprayed a little bit on.
