Great video! You know you can line the tray with aluminum foil which prevents further marks and can be tossed when it gets too messy. I use Lasermax a lot and it’s sticky so it’s been a life saver.

Thankyou for a great video tutorial. You are one of the people I watched before I purchased my Omtech Polar. I've upgraded the controller as well and that makes a huge advantage. I even downloaded a small block for spacing the lens (manually with the controller) that I 3D printed. I will be upgrading my lens now that you've shown us this new one, that will be yet another huge advantage. So far I love my Polar. My only grief is the Camera. I have yet to find anyone that has calibrated the stock Polar camera and saved and made available their calibration file (which is VERY POSSIBLE) Dissappointed that Omtech did'nt supply us this file to download, maybe you have one available? That would be sweet. Thanks again !!! Look forward to more videos.

Have you joined the polar users group on Facebook? I created it last year and we have just over 2,000 members who have gone through the process. I uploaded the dot matrix you need to calibrated the camera to put files section. The link is I. The description.

Edmond, I ordered a Omtech Polar laser today. Also requested to join the polar group on facebook. The lens kit seems to be unavailable on Etsy.. Do I really need the red dot kit? Can I use the fire button at very low power like I do on my diode lasers? Could I set the power low and use the laser attenuation knob to get it even lower and use that as a guide?

Thank you for your video. I have watched it several times. Questions? How full should the coolant be? Just verify I can add distilled water to the coolant as it begins to go down. I don't have to switch the whole rv coolant out.?
@EdmondsWoodshop
@EdmondsWoodshop 5 ай бұрын
The coolant tank should be at least 2/3rds full. At the 2nd to last page of your manual there's a little blurb that states that you CAN add distilled water to the coolant tank to top it off. The "coolant" is simply RV antifreeze. If you don't need antifreeze, then distilled water is just fine.

I also wanted to order the Lens nozzle upgrade but the link to Etsy says the item is no longer available. Is there another way we can get the nozzle upgrade? Maybe by going to an internet site? Thanks for the great video! I'm a newbie, 2 weeks using and just cleaned everything

Is the Etsy nozzle longer than stock? If so how does it affect Z height? One more question I have is how often do we need to change the coolant in this machine? What kind of coolant does it require and where can we buy it in USA? I guess that's 2 questions.

Thanks for the discount codes-I used it when buying the Polar! What are the magnets used for that you suggested above?
@EdmondsWoodshop
@EdmondsWoodshop Жыл бұрын
I showed in the video how the magnets were used. Since the metal in the dust covers aren’t magnetic I had to superglue a magnet on each of the mating locations where a screw was. This allows me to quickly removed the covers for cleaning.
@GinaSartorwlcsd
@GinaSartorwlcsd Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great support! Can you explain the magnet replacement for screw on the tube dust cover? It looks like there are two thin rare earth magnets. What size? Do you glue them on?
@EdmondsWoodshop
@EdmondsWoodshop Жыл бұрын
I totally forgot to explain that in the video so I apologize. Since the sheet metal isn’t magnetic I had to super glue the medium magnets from my kit (linked in the description) onto the laser tube’s dust cover and then another one on the mating surface where the screw normally goes. You only want to do this to the two backsides and on the front left. Not the front right where the electronics are otherwise is may interfere with how the X axis moces

I know I’m late to the video (great video btw!!!) but what is the optimal coolant level? I seem to have foam in my laser tube when it’s running and I’m nervous to run at high power
@EdmondsWoodshop
@EdmondsWoodshop 7 ай бұрын
Manual states it needs to be 2/3rds full. If you’re in an area where freeze isn’t a concern then you can fill with distilled water. The foam is just tiny bubbles, correct? Do they go away after letting it circulate for a minute?

You need a regulator and solenoid at a minimum to control the flow of air. I’ll be doing an air assist upgrade video soon for the polar but it will mimic @BeardedBuildsCo on KZfaq.

Great video but please wear gloves, I've been around industrial lasers for the past 25 years, yes these are tiny low powered hobby machines but the lens coats are extremely toxic.
@EdmondsWoodshop
@EdmondsWoodshop 3 ай бұрын
I Appreciate your expertise. I typically wear gloves when handling my good lenses. The lenses I was handling was a bad one, but still doesn’t mean it’s safe to handle without gloves. I work with American Photonics on various projects. I wonder why they wouldn’t mention toxicity of handling lenses without gloves.
