trust me if you clean it with bleach and vinegar you don't need to worry about anything behind the rods . because bleach is strong disinfectant .it can not kill not just bacteria, mold and ureters but it can kill any virus, and if you don't believe me ask you family doctor . and from other way if you make self clean system time to time it will clean everything behind ,Where the intense rush of water after using bleach is able to remove anything left behind ,Same as what I said before when I was answering a previous question Whereas, in very hot countries, the water networks are cleaned using bleach to prevent diseases, and they also add bleach to the water in small quantities to ensure that the water reaches the homes clean. any way ask your doctor for to make sure . thank you

I feel like mine is disgusting and I haven’t even used it that much. I refuse to use it again until I figure out a way to clean it and I really want some ice in my Barq’s Root Beer today! Seems like a lot of hassle but I’m definitely going to do it. Also, what is the best water to make ice with? I use purified drinking water, but is there one in particularly, that will work better (with less calcium buildup)? Thanks so much for sharing this information! God bless!

i feel happy because you can clean your ice maker and reusing it again, i do to use the purified drinking water , but if you dont trust your purified drinking water, you can buy any water from stores it is better and you can boil over the purified drinking water and after it cool down you can use it .it is cheaper way, and last thing all the water has calcium and you have to clean your ice maker time to time because the problem not come from calcium . it come from the algae , mold and bacteria they can affect your health badly and they will grow up if we did not clean the ice maker nicely and make sure it is dry all the times . I really appreciate your answers. My ice maker was a gift, and I kept seeing red inside my ice maker. I was told that I could clean it, but I never found out how. I thank you guys for the Step by Step Video and the answers about the water to use. This was such a blessing. I use boiled water. And now I know how to use the tooth brush and water and vinegar and baking soda to clean my machine. Thank you so much. 😢😢

Theory: over 2 years ago, I bought a Keurig... I use it daily....I have reverse osmosis water filtration (countertop) that I bought a while back...I fill 2 gallon glass jars and keep it refrigerated for use in my Keurig and the ice maker like this one...Even the tank that holds water in my Keurig never gets slimy (I wash it anyway)... and there's never any build up on kettle either... I think cleaning these are very important but I also think the water you use in them makes all the difference... I would never put tap water in... in between uses (I don't use it daily) when I'm done... I keep a clip fan in the kitchen because I use it to dry dishes... I put the clip fan to blow the inside of the ice maker dry (if I'm not going to be using it for a few days) nothing worse than something that holds water being wet and closed up and can't breathe.

I completely agree! I’ve used distilled water in all my appliances. Not dirty, slimy. Last summer I had a whole home reverse osmosis system put in. Even goes through a UV light as its last stage. My ice maker became disgusting. I literally just cleaned it and am running this cycle again. I’m shocked at the inside. I shall be returning to the distiller. Coffee maker is next for the cleaning cycle and will return to distilled water for it too. The water you use truly makes a difference!

@@rowan8486 wait... what? The reverse osmosis made everything gross and slimy??? Wow makes no sense... but I believe you... No reason for you to lie...it's just weird...becuase it sounds like you're describing tap water... not RO water.

@@rowan8486 Yes, distilled water is clean water and good for appliances, but you must clean the ice maker regularly so that bacteria and mold do not grow inside it. You must also make sure it is dry when storing it. Thank you for comment

Do not turn ice maker upside down. If you do , wait 24 hours before turning on.

You can’t do a thorough job of cleaning the mildew inside the rotating (trough-like) water well without removing the back outer skin of the ice maker by removing screws on the bottom, popping off the skin, then unscrewing the top assembly. Then after you drain the unit of all water, plug the unit in and turn it on and let the trough rotate into an accessible position then pull the plug from the wall to stop it from reverting back to its inaccessible resting position. Now you have plenty of room to squeeze a microfiber rag in between the freeze rods and the trough. Vinegar or bleach run through the machine will not clean these parts fully. This is one of the reasons why this icemaker is inexpensive. It is not a great design

I'm sure the bleach is enough to remove mold, algae and bacteria too You can try what I say, if you have a fish tank, you will find brown algae in it Take out the fish and water, then add the bleach . You will see that the brown algae has disappeared Do you know how they clean drinking water pipes in hot countries? They use the bleach .If they were made as you say and they dismantled the pipes to clean them, they would need years every time they wanted to clean them. Believe me, the bleach is very effective. Do not go to disassemble the parts and expose yourself to the dangers of electricity i am very thankful for your comment

I agree the instructions have care and clean. It says to drain it after each use. That's like 8 hours of clean. I do like his brush cleaning. I hope he wasn't drinking water that water. I use the Hinckley spring water I get for my water dispenser. I don't drink tap water.

spring water is good, but u can drink tap water it should come to you clean
