I was always afraid of using a pressure washer on the bay and used a spray bottle on my PassatCC 2015. Now I have a CX5, I can be more confident by covering the electrical component box, alternator, and the intake then rinsing slightly. This is by far the best vid I have seen of someone using a Pressure Washer on Engine Bay.

I always cover the alternator(s) with a plastic grocery bag as best I can. Batteries as well and I hand clean/dry them and put new terminal protectant on them. Just a courteous approach I use. With diesels, most modern ones have two alternators and two batteries. Many aren’t AGM batteries and will leak/spray out the caps. Important area to focus on to ensure they’re clean and free of corrosion.

Just rinse it with water and slap it with a foaming washer then rinse it again until the foam gone. Then use dry towels to dry out those areas that are reachable to your hands. Afterward, circle around your residential area or take the car for more than 20 minutes or so, so that the engine bay is dry and all its area from the heat inside the hood.

Maybe to wear the safety glasses that have a seal around the edges . And I would expect if you were cleaning a heavily oiled / greased engine . Of course I think with a gasoline powered pressure washer to even wear googles also that have seals around the lenses .

I always find your videos and cleaning techniques focusing on making a profit (more money for less time) rather than doing a stellar job. That may be fine for you in your location and financial situation, but it leads to *not* doing the best job possible and in the best way. That's important when you are washing cars for a living but it doesn't really help anyone that wants to do the job right. Good luck.
@DetailGroove
@DetailGroove Жыл бұрын
Yep, there's a major difference between doing this as a business and doing it as a hobby.
@brianbassett4379
@brianbassett4379 Жыл бұрын
@@DetailGroove Then why would anyone ever hire you if they want the job done right? I understand expenses and that a business owner needs to make a profit to actually stay in business. But I won't pay someone to do the same job that I can. Here's an example, when I need maintenance on my bike I load it on a top-grade bike rack that's only used for this purpose, then drive it 40 miles to a bike shop when there are at least 25 shops that are closer. A bike shop owned by a guy that is so much like me we almost always end up arguing about something. A bike shop that charges premium prices because it offers the best service I can find. I guess I just wouldn't pay someone to do the fastest cheapest job possible to save a buck. It's like eating fast food... what a waste. Good luck.

@@DetailGroove not thick axle grease….. you can remove some but that’s multiple applications. I’m talking about, getting it better so the auto technician have a better site of what they are looking at. Because the water jets aren’t that strong. I believe they are in between 30-40° nozzle. Lol great video & this is the way to do it but take it from me been detailing for 23 years steer away from engine cleaning. It’s easy work and easy money buutttttttttttttttt it only takes one jackass client who doesn’t understand logic & boom you’re liable for an engine or alternator. Had a client driving a s550 “from the auction” engine failed after a few months. She randomly contacted me and asked how did I clean her engine. I couldn’t lie, she was a partner in a huge law firm so I bit the bullet and payed the price smh.. now the best you will get from me is a wipe down with a degreaser and a can of tire dressing lol. Great video and good luck detailing fam.

I think this is the best approach with the same results…I blow out the leaves and debris, spray a degreaser, agitate, and wipe off with a damp microfiber towel, and then again with a dry one…and then spray with a dedicated dressing ….looks great and I don’t have to worry about damaging any part of the engine with water 😊

Need to more more about cars befor detailing bays need to cover all pulleys every pulley on the belt they will go bad within a few weeks if you dont and cover all wire connectors fuse boxes coil packs. Never use pressure water under the hood. Ive replace more pulleys and alternators and ac compressor from bay details than i can count and the no start and miss fire after from connectors getting wet and caps and plug wires. Want to use less water as possible this is the fastest wat to get good clean bay but my guys had to use alot of time and hand cleaning if someone wanted a bay detail charged alot cause we tryed to stay away from a detail alway give it a good wipe down but detail like this i talk them out of it

@CJDAASSASSIN99
@CJDAASSASSIN99 2 жыл бұрын
@mike (battery) because you can short circuit some of the electronics if you get water on the battery which short circuits some of the electronics. (Seats) you can accidently set the airbags off in the seats if you were to pull it out while the battery is plugged in. Which you would have to replace the whole seat if that happens.

How to clean engine bay Step 1: use common sense Step 2: rinse and done! Lol what a terrible way to demonstrate and explain how to clean an engine bay. That’s my opinion, and just some constructive criticism; try and take the time to sit down and brainstorm what you will be explaining in a how to video. The first half of the video only pertained to the car you were working on and you even said it’s not even that dirty. I’m sure many people on here clicked on this video to clean much more than just the plastic on the engine.
