How to Clean & Oil a Vintage Singer 15-90 Sewing Machine

I am setting up one of my vintage Singer sewing machines to piece quilts as well as quilt them - because my newer Singer machine is down for the count!
In this video I am showing how I clean and oil a vintage 1947 Singer 15-90 sewing machine before starting a project.

It's a beautiful looking machine. I restored one and turned it into a hand. Crank, i have several 15.91s to be restored as well as some 66's and a 99. I also have some other machines that are not singer but other brands that are all vintage

Wow, your vintage machine is put back into it’s full glory. I like hearing the sounds of older sewing machines. My daughter has her grandmother’s Singer Treadle sewing machine, not sure of the date. The belt actually can apart and my husband said they were actually stapled together. I bought myself a Janome continental M7, because of its 11’ throat space, others like their Bernita’s, Baby Locks, lots of great machine out there. My daughter sent a PDF to you, so if you got it great, if not I’m at a loss as thinking it isn’t going to happen. I enjoyed the challenge and very happy that I did the sew along so, Thank you for all you share, I always enjoy your videos. 👍❤️😊

Happy you got to receive my photos, what I wanted was to show you I managed your challenge for the Flower Garden and enjoyed all the different stages. And the Christmas houses I learnt a lot with that one, my first appliqué quilt, already planning a second for my daughter. I want to thanks you for sharing again, I really appreciate the patterns. 👍❤️😊

The only time I used compressed air is when I'm blowing out a machine in preparation for tear down and cleaning in the restoration process. Anything that the compressed air will blow into areas will be cleaned out in the process of tear down and cleaning but you shouldn't have to use canned air or compressed air if for any reason you need to use compressed air canned air, do not blow it into your machine. Go from underneath and blow them from inside out and use short burst. Not long burst but if you blow from the inside out most of the length and dust and so forth will go out of the machine and not go into places it shouldn't

Did you ever figure out the c4 error of your other machine? My singer is doing the same c4 error and is also weird with the handwheel

I was hoping you would take the upper tension completely apart and show us how to clean it and put it back together. I have this machine. 1949 15-K. What lubrication for the motor please? Thanks

I didn't take the tension assembly apart because I wasn't having any problems with it. There are videos on you tube that show how to do that though. I use Singer sewing machine lubricant. Joann used to carry it. Most shops that sell sewing machines will have some, or you can buy it on Amazon.

How to lubricate the motor?

There are 2 small holes in the top of the motor case. You just squeeze the lubricant into those holes.
