Proper polishing pad cleaning and maintenance is key to make sure that the polishing pads will last as long as possible, and this will keep them fresh and ready for their next use. Polishing pads are quite expensive, so it makes sense to take proper care of them.
In this video, I go through three different methods of cleaning your polishing pads:
1. Using dishwashing liquid or an all purpose cleaner.
2. Using a pad washer assembly for higher efficiency.
3. Cleaning the pads in your washer using the same methods I demonstrated in my microfiber towels cleaning tutorial here: • HOW TO WASH MICROFIBER...

Same here - three years ago when I bought my golf R! Used pan’s method to do a full clay bar, 1-stage compound to get the dealer-induced swirls out, then polish with essence, then ceramic coating! Using a griot’s 6inch DA polisher and so far it’s working very well for my needs - I’m no professional so it’s perfect to just do my vehicles.

I am about 600 dollars in deep with my Karcher K3, IK multi pro pump bottles, sprayers, 4 different foam cannons, dressers, drying towels and assorted micro-fiber towels, car pro gear coming out the wah-zoo and of course brushes....I just need to look eventually at getting buffing/cutting and polishing gear which is going to hurt me again and got a feeling I need to spend another grand to have the entire car detailing deluxe kit 😂😂😂.

Thanks bro! For me the pad washer is the best for speed and efficiency. But I have seen too many videos where people don't use it correctly. It's important to use the pre-treat spray on the pad, and work it in with your fingers, rubbing it in thoroughly, and then you plunge it in the bucket and pump up and down. Mine always come out perfect as you saw. :)

Pan a question please involving polishing/correction and pads. I noticed the pads Rick at RAD used on the Lexus IS video then watched you doing polishing tutorials using foam and MF on different cars. Lake and Rupes told me to use a medium MF on my soft Lexus paint then finish with Sonax. Is there a formula you use on manufacturers cars? Such as : Audi gets this pad with this compound and this polish? Porsche i use this pad with this compound and this polish? Hope the question make sense but I am thinking by now you have a guideline for manufacturers and then a corresponding “recipe” for the compound/polish then adjust based on condition of the paint. 🙏thx as usual for the guidance and hard work on the pad cleaner options. 👍👍👍👍👍

Thanks Pan. I just spray pad cleaner on all my pads when I’m done with one during my detailing process. I then throw them in 5 gal bucket of water with some Dawn in it. Now they’re soaking while I complete my entire job. At the end of the day I through all my MF’s I used and pads in the wash with Micro Restore and everything comes out clean and done. Just less hassle then cleaning each pad my hand or working a pad cleaning device. But you need to have enough clean pads ready to go for your job at hand.
@PanTheOrganizer

What ever works for you. Just a quick suggestion though, always wash your polishing pads separately from the rest of your microfiber towels. Pads contain small abrasives that could lodge themselves in the fibers of the microfiber towels and defeats the purpose of having good towels to work with on nice paint, as you could potentially scratch and mar the surface.

Hello Pan I have a Chemical Guys Torq X DA polisher and I have never used it so if you could provides some tips. I want to remove light swirl marks and I have all the Chemical Guys 5" pads (Red/Black/Blue/White/Green and Orange) what color should I start with? I have both the Meguiar's Ultimate Polish and Compound as wells as the Chemical Guys Kit V32, V34, V36 and V38. What pad to start with, setting on machine and which polish as mentioned above is easier for a beginner to use.....Meguiar's or the V32 to V38. Thanks in advance for any tips you could provide.

Excellent video as always. What technique do _you_ use and _how often_ do you clean a pad when polishing a car? My practice may be too careful - wash polishing pad every two panels. - walk into the kitchen, rinse pad with the sink sprayer - spray pad cleaner on the pad, scrub with dedicated brush - rinse and wring - mount pad on polisher, hold down and away from car and run polisher at 4 of 6 speed to expel water

Thanks Steve! I use the Detail Guardz pad washer system, as it's super quick. When I'm done polishing a car, I will typically have a dozen pads (5 or 6 for compound and 5 or 6 for polishing) so it gets the job done super quickly and efficiently.

Love the channel Pan. Before I started watching, my garage shelves were bare. Now they're starting to look like yours!😄 I live in US in Northern Ohio and my garage is attached but isn't heated. Should any/all of these products be moved inside for the winter in case of freezing? Also, any idea on product shelf life? I don't have a detailing business and only use on my personal Car's so wondering if they would still be okay to use if 2-3 years old or would chemical makeup of product change in that time? Could be idea for a new post.... compare effectiveness of different products that have been on your shelf for 2+ years🤔
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback Joel. I appreciate it. To answer your question, it's crucial that detailing chemicals don't freeze! If they do, they're garbage. And typically, chemicals have a shelf life of 1 to 2 years if kept in stable conditions, meaning non freezing.

@@PanTheOrganizer Thanks for the reply. So no vid, I do have a quick question however. I was just wandering if there was a particular reason you choose to not use a compressor such as a particular drawback, is it to minimize your equipment to keep things uncluttered, or do you just not find them necessary because of the other tools in your arsenal. You obviously accomplish a high level of detail without them and I value your opinion. Thanks again for your great content, your production quality is top notch.
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 3 жыл бұрын
For both reasons. I don't like clutter, and in 23 years of detailing, I just never had the need for one. After decades of detailing, I also got to a point where I only offer one detailing package: the total new car prep. So the vehicles I detail are brand new mostly. I don't do those disaster details like I used to when I first started. Not worth my time. So for people who deal with disgusting older filthy cars, I could see where a compressor could be used to blow out dirt, or for use with tools like a Tornador.

Hi Pan quessie for you; products with “pretty” dyes in them that stain pads. Which is better for attacking pad stains, prepared pad products or dishwasher / hand wash detergents, soak more or agitate harder?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, there aren't many miracles against stained pads, especially black or dark stains. The pad will still be clean, but the stains usually stay. The best way to diminish them is to clean the pads immediately after use, and using the pad washer I presented in this video really helps the most with this.
