I suggest ya to buy a timberland cleaning kit, you can find them on eBay for less than £10 (don't know how much it would be in dollars, but it won't that expensive )

Honestly, I'm not too sure about that. I just found it to be the most affective soap to use in this case. I haven't found it to dry at all & it's been almost a year since I've cleaned them. If you don't feel comfortable using dish soap to the material, I wouldn't insist on doing it before you do some research. I hope this was useful :)

I found dish soap works pretty well to. Any big markings that are dark or black you might have to buy that eraser thing that removes scuffs but I also used a little dish soap and water on mine for almost two years but after wearing them through two winters I had to get new ones. Salt kills that shit like crazy.
