8 жыл бұрын

The best part about the Litter-Robot automatic, self-cleaning litter box is that it cleans itself, which means no more scooping for you! But occasionally, you’ll want to give your Litter-Robot a good, thorough clean to keep it in its best shape and to ensure that it looks nice and clean in your home. Because the Litter-Robot contains electronics, you’ll need to take the unit apart to effectively clean the Litter-Robot without harming its parts.
In this how-to Litter-Robot video, we’ll walk you through the process of taking apart the Litter-Robot parts so that you can gently wash all of the unit’s components. Just make sure to avoid using any harsh cleaners or chemicals, or putting the device’s electronic pieces in the way of moisture or cleaning solutions. You’ll also want to make sure you allow your Litter-Robot to fully dry before refilling it with clumping litter to avoid compromising the unit’s ability to sift and clean properly.

I purchased an open air a month ago since I downsized from a house to an apartment. This is the best purchase I have ever made. Seriously. It makes apartment living with a cat (actually have 3 😳) feasible. So easy. Love it. Cats are much happier too. I took the globe to the car wash and hosed it down. Best thing ever.

We inherited my mother's 3 cats and moved to a tiny apartment. The liter robot is a miracle! Fully cleaned it for the 1st time today thanks to the tutorial. It took almost an hour to fully clean everything but this is the only maintenance I have had to do in just under a month (besides emptying the tray once every 5/6 days and refilling with litter. After going from 4 litter boxes having to be scooped multiple times a day and changed twice a week to prevent strong odors to one litter robot (which the cats LOVE) I am forever grateful for your product!

Dear Litter-Robot, YES!! Thank you for a wonderful product. It has made life with 3 cats a pleasure. Best purchase I ever made. I promote your product to ALL my friends and family. Can I make a suggestion or two? My first is maybe on the next generations program the unite to cycle 1 direction then the other direction to evenly disburse the waste in the waste tray under the unit. It will fill more evenly and even last a little longer between cleaning out the drawer? Secondly redesign the waste tray so that the trash bag gets tucked under the lip of the drawer tray. I have noticed because the poop piles on 1 side that it will get messy when you go to raise up the bag to remove it. By redesigning it with these 2 suggestions, it will eliminate that nasty mess. Other than that, I think your product is genius! Job well done! PS. Why is my yellow light that says cycling coming on at night and staying on all night?

Don’t clean your globe in the shower or the sink. Eventually the small bits of litter will clog your drain. Happened to my mothers shower. My plumber and I had to chip away at this clog for days. Very easy to follow, how often does this need to be done? How do you eliminate strong odor from box?
@LitterRobot
@LitterRobot 2 жыл бұрын
We suggest deep cleaning at least twice per year (though more often is better!) More often than not, the type/brand of litter makes the biggest difference for odor control. We tend to find the best results from a high-quality clay clumping litter such as Litterbox.com.
@vincef.5378
@vincef.5378 7 ай бұрын
Strong odor is from a cheap diet with the cats and/or they need probiotics in their food and purified water in stainless or glass bowls. Our girls are on a raw diet with Taurine and pro-biotics. Very little waste, hard poops. We only change the bag every 7 days.

I purchased the open air about three months that ago. Mostly it's been working fine. I noticed sometimes it just stops working caused by the waste drawer might be full. But I should've got a blue flashing light indicator to tell me it's full so I can change the bag. May I know if this is a normal behavior from open air?
@LitterRobot
@LitterRobot 6 жыл бұрын
Once the drawer is full, the Litter-Robot should flash the blue light and it will complete a few more cycles before it stops cycling automatically (this prevents the globe from running through the waste in the waste drawer). If your Litter-Robot isn't doing that, please contact our team right away so we can resolve this for you. support@litter-robot.com or 877-250-7729

Is there a plastic lubricant on the gears? If so, what do you recommend using as a replacement once the lubricant is washed off?
@LitterRobot
@LitterRobot 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! There isn't any plastic lubricant on the gears but we do have some on the globe track. Out of the box, the Litter-Robot has a silicone lubricant layer that can wear off over time. An easy solution to this is Pledge furniture polish (if you have a different brand of furniture polish, it will work as well). We would ask you to please simply spray the polish on a paper towel and wipe the track of the base where the globe sits. Please avoid getting it on the black gear. For further questions regarding this, please visit our Help Center (WhiskerSupport.com) to chat with one of our product experts or reach us by phone at 877-250-7729. Thank you!

Hello! Would you say the LR3 is worth the price difference over the LR2? The rubber lining inside the LR3 is durable enough? Seems a bit flimsy when the machine turns during its regular cycles...
@robertagardocki1860

Worth every dime, especially if you have a 13 lb cat. My larger cat didn't fit in the LR2, but is fine with the LR3. I have had the LR3 for nearly 2 years and it has help up with no problems. (I clean it only with vinegar/water wipes - so haven't had any real wear at all on the inside. I also spray the inside surfaces with Stink Free powder spray each time I change the litter and clean it.)

Can someone offer some advise? I’m preparing to clean mine for the first time. Do you set up an old litter box for your cats while you’re cleaning this? I’m not sure how long it will take to dry entirely before I can put it back together. What did you do if your cats need to go during that time? Thanks!

If you've washed yours, can you please comment how it went? I'd highly recommend giving the cats an option while the robot is drying, but idk how long it'll take to dry. I just took mine apart for the first time. I'll be cleaning it outside within the next few days. I admit, I'm a bit nervous about it. I have several regular litter pans though, so I'm not worried where my cats will go while it's drying. I have 9 inside cats right now, so there's 5 extra huge pans and 2 regular size pans in addition to the robot. Even so, I need to scoop twice a day. I wish I could afford 2 more robots!!

Just cleaned mine for the first time. It took about 45 minutes. Easy breezy. No, I did not put a litter box out. The cats sleep 22 hours a day. Watch when they first poop in the morning then clean. I fortunately have cats that will wait (they don't like using somewhere new). Good luck! It's easier than you think. Oops forgot...there's really no drying time if you wipe all the water with paper towels. I cleaned the Globe first allowing it to air out (moisture) while I cleaned the base.

@LitterRobot
@LitterRobot 3 жыл бұрын
In between deep cleans, a quick wipe with a disposable cloth and cleaning spray usually does the trick! When it comes to other methods of deep cleaning, we recommend cleaning the globe with a mild soap such as dishwashing detergent. There are no electronics in the globe, so you can soak it in a tub or hose it down if you want to! We like to use a soft toilet brush to easily access the inside of the globe. Avoid scrubbing hard at any particular location. If something is tough to clean off, it's best to soak it with a rag or in a tub. Hopefully this helps do the trick for you! Hosing it down is not always possible depending on the layout of our home, which we completely understand! However, we do tend to find the best long-term maintenance comes from taking the globe apart and cleaning thoroughly at least twice a year.

You can take the Globe apart if needed (in most cases it isn't necessary, but it can be done!). To do so, first remove the internal shield and set aside: litterrobot.kayako.com/article/105-lr-iii-remove-and-install-the-internal-shield Then use the end of a paper clip (or similar) to pop out the two front screw covers on either side of the entryway. You can then use a phillips screw driver to remove all 8 screws located around the middle of the globe. That will allow the two halves to separate. There are foam strips tucked in one side of the globe--try to keep those intact as you separate the two halves of the Globe. Those will need to be tucked back in as you reassemble. Clean as needed, then reverse the process to reassemble! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Customer Service at support@litter-robot.com or 877-250-7729

I have a big cat who pisses very high up. Is that a problem with all the moving parts in this litter box?
@LitterRobot
@LitterRobot 5 жыл бұрын
The globe was designed to handle this as the flange (rim) of the top half of the globe hangs over the bottom half of the globe, which itself is protected by a tough, impermeable flexible liner. If any liquid gets above the halfway mark (above the globe liner), it simply drips or drains down to the liner and then into the litter. This results in a clump forming at the perimeter of the litter bed, which is removed by the peeling action of the globe liner during a clean cycle. Constant spraying may require that you clean the interior of the globe more frequently to remove any residue though.

@LitterRobot
@LitterRobot 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! When the yellow light is flashing once per second, it will mean one of two things: (1) The cycle was interrupted by the cat sensor. If the cat sensor is activated while the unit is cycling, it will stop. Fifteen seconds after your cat has left the globe, the unit will resume cycling. (2) The bonnet has been removed. If the bonnet is removed while the globe is in the Home position or during a cycle, the unit will stop. Five seconds after replacing the bonnet, the unit will resume its previous function. When the yellow light is flashing twice per second, it means the cycle was interrupted by the anti-pinch feature. If the anti-pinch safety feature is activated while cycling, the globe will reverse direction for two seconds, then stop. The yellow light will flash for one minute. Then, the globe will attempt to rotate toward the Home position again.

Hi there! When cleaning the globe, we tend to find the best results using a mild soap such as dishwashing detergent, or a safe alternative like vinegar and water. For the Bonnet and Base, using a lightly dampened cloth will work. Disinfectant will work on the Bonnet and Base, but we suggest spraying it directly on the cloth because both of these components contain electronics that shouldn't get wet. I hope this helps to clarify, but please let us know if you have any other questions!

Hi! More often than not, the type/brand of litter makes the biggest difference for odor control. For example, Plant-based litters tend to form looser clumps than alternatives. This can cause condensation in the waste drawer, which causes more odor and corrosion of nearby components. If you use plant-based litter, we recommend changing the bag and cleaning more frequently. We find the best results from a standard-weight, unscented, clay clumping litter, such as Litterbox.com www.litterbox.com/subscribe/litter.html. I hope this helps, but please contact us for further assistance by visiting our Help Center (WhiskerSupport.com) to chat with one of our product experts or submit a ticket. @robertagardocki1860
@robertagardocki1860 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Eve, This problem can be solved with little work. First thing - empty the litter and clean all the Clorox residue from the inside. (the chemicals can pit the rubber mat & that may be causing part of your issue.) Suggest simple cleaning by wiping with either vinegar/water mix or just use disposable baby wipes. The less chemicals, the better. Then dry the unit thoroughly. Next spray entire rubber mat with "Stink Free Spray powder (powder spray)" - it creates a fine film that prevents sticking - it will help keep the unit clean longer. Then, refill with simple unscented clumping litter (I use Dr Elsey's Precious Cat) Once you have the unit pretreated with the Stink Free powder spray, it will only need a wipe down every week or two to keep it clean. My litter robots - even a 7 year old one - stay clean and fresh since I read about this technique..

The Globe: We recommend cleaning the globe with a mild soap such as dishwashing detergent. Do not use bleach products on the unit (any part). Bleach is very corrosive to metal and plastics. A safe alternative would be vinegar and water. There are no electronics in the globe, so you can soak it in a tub or hose it down. We like to use a soft toilet brush to easily access the inside of the globe. Avoid scrubbing hard at any particular location. If something is tough to clean off, it's best to soak it with a rag or in a tub. Confirm the globe is completely dry before adding litter. If it is not dry, the litter will clump prematurely and may get clogged in the ports or litter pocket. The Base: Wipe the base down without getting any of the electronic components wet. You can use a small hand vacuum to clean out parts of the base. Otherwise, a damp cloth should help. If your unit is a Classic or Bubble, you may notice the plastic can become discolored. Common car cleaners and plastic restorers are safe to use to restore the finish. The Bonnet (Litter-Robot 3 only): Do not get the bonnet wet at any point. You can wipe down the top of the bonnet with a damp cloth if it is dirty. To Keep Odor Down: Try to use completely new, fresh litter in the unit every so often. Litter can absorb excess odor. We have also been told that dryer sheets below the drawer liner help keep odor down. Try to avoid scented litter, as it does not absorb as much odor. Other users have mixed baking soda in with their litter and/or liners. You might also want to change the carbon filter every 3-6 months. The carbon filter is designed to contain odor within the drawer. Replacement carbon filters may be ordered on our website. Seal strips should be changed as needed. Parts that start to fall off should be cut off and removed. The remainder can be left on. Neither the carbon filter or seal strip are required for use of the machine. If you have the Litter-Robot 3, you may wish to check out the assembly instructions: support-litter-robot.force.com/s/article/Assembling-the-Litter-Robot-3

Here's a thought. Figure it out. Man on the Moon in '69 and you can't figure out how to hose out a plastic globe. Awesome!

How to remove the cat urine smell from the plastic of the cleaned unit
@LitterRobot
@LitterRobot 8 ай бұрын
Hi there! Try increasing/decreasing the wait time setting to accommodate your litter. Clumps usually stick if they are too wet when the Litter-Robot cycles. If that doesn't do the trick, you might consider trying a different type/brand of litter or spraying a little cooking spray directly on the liner.

Get your cats off the cheap diet and give them purified water in only stainless or glass bowls. Healthy cat urine doesn't smell.

Verified purchase Having owned the Litter Robot Connect for 3 months now, I have begun the process with Litter Robot to return this monstrosity of a machine. Living in a small city apartment with two cats, there was nothing I wanted more than to come home to an odorless home with limited scooping responsibilities. I would have paid twice the cost of the Connect. Purchased more bags for earlier draw cleanings. Washing the large cumbersome sphere in the tub set out to be more of a task than I expected.

You only need to wash the globe every six months or so. As long as you are keeping the correct amount of litter in the machine and change out the waste drawer bag, there's shouldn't be much of an issue.

the videos should be specific to one model and not cover all - would save time and make instructions easier to follow .. - the software is a mess - won't connect!

No, the issue is with you because you're simple, a whiner that cant' think. Anyone with a functioning brain could apply the cleaning shown to ALL models. The software is flawless. 3 years and never a problem. With 100's of 1000's sold, we see you're the problem. Keep blaming others though... but we know you're the problem.

Considering I only do a "full clean" every 3 months, it really isn't. Drawer empty takes about a minute every few days with 3 cats, and I have 1 box, not 4 like before the robot. Trust me, it was worth every cent.

Wrong. You scoop a 'traditional' litter box daily. I only have to change the LR3 once a week, and because of our girls healthy raw diet haven't even needed to deep clean the robot in 3 years. Sounds like you don't have a LR, so you dont' know what you're talking about. Great input though. Life changing.
