I don't really grill but this was easy to carry and bring with me camping as a backup in case kzfaq.infoUgkxTAV04Wwc8vZvciP7ycqR1S4raCS0TnUc I couldn't get a fire going. In my opinion it is better to bring a charcoal grill instead of a gas grill as a backup because if it rains or the leaves around are still damp from a recent rain; you can use the charcoal to help your fire keep going even though a gas grill is easier to temp control with. Overall, pleased with my purchase.

I just found your channel three days ago. I've always used charcoal, but I purchased a q1200 for week night grilling. Your channel has been extremely helpful. At first I was like "this city boy isn't going to teach this Georgia boy anything new". I was wrong lol! I've already grilled/roasted pork chops, and tonight I grilled sweet and spicy chicken. Thanks for the ideas and tips.

Haha you got me to just about spit out my beer with this comment! The only thing better if you said “this SKINNY city boy...” 😂 Really glad I’ve been able to help out. The Q is sure a fun and versatile little cooker. Wish it got more love here in the US.

Great presentation. Ive had my Weber Q family for a month now. Have used it every 2nd nights since the first BBQ. Loving it.! Great moment letting my 13yo son do the first turn on and help me with the first cook. Cleaned it for the first time last weekend, using your method. Thanks mate.👍👍👌👌 Cheers from Sydnay Australia.

I use a wooden spatula to clean my grill box. Can't groove the aluminum like a metal spatula but no flexing like a plastic one You may want to think about taking the SS burner tube out first. It makes cleaning the box much easier and it allows for a good cleaning of the tube. Very easy to do. I have two burner tubes and rotate them out. I use OvenOff to clean them. For a yearly cleaning I use an electric 1200 psi water pressure cleaner. As good as new.

Running a stiff bristle tooth brush over the burner tube openings at the end usually ensures they’re all free from debris for me. The little bristles easily poke the holes clean. Thanks for the content Jerry. New subscriber here in Australia, Jan 2022

Hi Jurgen, welcome to the channel! Good tip with a stiff tooth brush, that would work just as well. Just don't put it in your mouth after ;-) You are right, most of the time scraping the burner or just poking the holes out do the trick. Only very rarely do I need to disassemble and do a full flush of the tube.

Couple of tips...Since you're on the 3rd floor...Use the bath tub. I'm in a house and use my bath tub. I have a hose sprayer adapted to the shower sprayer. Also, oven cleaner is the best results for me. Very important to season the grates immediately after.

Hey that’s a good tip! Truth be told I have thought about using the tub but just hesitant to get it that grimy with food particles like that (although it probably in reality doesn’t matter). My new set up for spring is I got a larger bucket and will just use the water supply from my neighboring unit.

Yes it is very effective. The caked on grease will come off in chunks. A plastic one is probably better for the cookbox, but if you use a metal one like I do just be gentle and careful not to scrape or etch the metal. Scrapes or dings in the metal might not matter, but if you can avoid it you should.

Just subscribed to channel, good content! For what it’s worth when I clean my Weber q I preheat on low heat for about 5 minutes then spray it down with oven cleaner. The grease rinses right off without the scrubbing. Then just run it on high for a couple of minutes.

I do prep work by covering the inside liberally with aluminum foil. It cuts down on cleaning DRASTICALLY. Just remove and discard. Then wipe down. Easy.
@ChicagoGriller
@ChicagoGriller 2 жыл бұрын
Others have mentioned they do this too. To be fair though, Weber doesn't recommend this, as they say it can trap excess grease or heat. However, based on the number of people who say they do this, it does not appear to be a major or common issue. I've not personally tried this foil lining method yet.

Thanks for the video. Would you recommend oiling or seasoning the grill plate if it is not being used frequently? We have found that our grates start rusting....
@ChicagoGriller
@ChicagoGriller 3 жыл бұрын
I think just like any cast iron, it will be good to clean it well and season/polymerize a new layer of oil on it after use if you don't intend on using it often. That said, I don't imagine it will rust on its own as long as you clean it well and keep it away from moisture or the elements.

Have you ever experienced a tube not fully lighting during ignition? But left to heat up come back and about 7/8th of the burner lit? I just cleaned it and not really sure what could happen. Didn’t have this problem before.
@ChicagoGriller
@ChicagoGriller 3 ай бұрын
Unfortunately burner tube ignition problems are pretty common with the Weber Q. It's probably blocked or obstructed with debris from prior cooks. Scraping and poking the openings clear usually does the trick.

Consider not using a metal brush fr final cleaning on the grates. Small pieces of bristle can break off and remain on the grill and get in good posing a problem when swallowed later. It happens, have seen the X-rays of the foreign body’s in the esophagus.
@ChicagoGriller
@ChicagoGriller Жыл бұрын
Truth be told, I have found a broken bristle one time in the cook box during cleaning. To my knowledge I’ve never ingested one, but it doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen. I think as long as they are replaced VERY regularly there is a low chance of there being any issues. But still a good thing to point out. Thanks for watching!

Why not line the grill with aluminum foil? I just tried it, just curious as to why others aren't doing it.
@ChicagoGriller
@ChicagoGriller 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Miguel, I've heard of people doing that for easier clean up. But supposedly if the cook box is lined with foil, it will cause the Q to retain too much heat. If run too long it could potentially start a fire. I've personally not tried it myself so I am not sure how hot it gets with foil inside.

Did you think about putting aluminium foil at the base of the grill? In this way you don't have to clean the bottom. What do you think?
@ChicagoGriller
@ChicagoGriller 2 жыл бұрын
I've not tried it myself, but this has been suggested to me a handful of times. I must say, Weber doesn't recommend this. They say it affects how heat is distributed and dissipated in the grill, as well as can cause built up with grease due to the crinkles and ridges in the foil. But again, this has been suggested to me by others, who claim no ill effects from it. I would say most likely doing this is fine, but proceed with caution.

@chicago griller is this how you clean the grates after each use?
@ChicagoGriller
@ChicagoGriller 2 ай бұрын
This is a bit much to do after each use. To clean your grates simply just turn the heat in high and let everything on the grill carbonize for about 10-15 min. It should easily scrape off at that point. This quick clean is something I do monthly just to get some of the finer residue cleaned off regularly and to keep the grease tray emptied.

I used those blue scrubbers to clean the grates, but didn't work. There was still stuff stuck on them. Is it okay if i use one of those aluminum or stainless steel scrubbers? And is it bad if i use the dishwasher for the grates?
@ChicagoGriller
@ChicagoGriller Жыл бұрын
I don't worry too much about the green or blue scrubbers... crank up the heat and they will burn off or they'll just blow away in the wind. I'd not advise a wire scrubbing pad - it might be ok a few times, but they are very abrasive and if you have any imperfections in your ceramic coating, you could end up taking it off. A crumpled ball of foil could do the same thing but is far less aggressive. The grates are not dishwasher safe. Thanks for watching!

Can you put the grates in the dishwasher?

I wouldn’t advise it. The enamel has a tendency to chip and I suspect if it begins flaking off in the dishwasher it won’t be good for the grates or the dishwasher.

I’ve seen some people using oven cleaner inside for really rough jobs. Any thoughts? Mine is super dirty from years of “use and abuse.” Also, not sure of the best product to spray on the exterior of the grill (I have a Q300, so it has that beige finish). Thanks for a great video!
@ChicagoGriller

Hi Dan! So I've not used oven cleaner - my grills have not ever gotten to that level of grit although currently I think my Q2000 could use a really deep clean after going all winter without. That said, the person who sold me the Q1200 I recently picked up said he used oven cleaner in it and the lid looked really really clean. I'm not sick from it yet after a month of use, so it should be all right :-)
