There is no legitimate excuse for not making this fan serviceable by the consumer. I just cleaned my Midea fan thoroughly in 15 minutes. two latches, one screw, one knob. Get with the program or fade away. We are long past the age of landfill appliances.

I've had this fan since 2015 and cleaned it for the first time this week. Actually disgusting what gets caught in it throughout the years and incredibly flawed design that we as consumers can't do a SIMPLE upkeep on fans that cost over $60. It took me maybe 5-10 minutes to unscrew everything (remove the stand first then unscrew the backgrill, the screws require a philip's head but many of mine were borderline stripped from the manufacturer so I used a narrow flathead which also got the random two screws that used an allen wrench) and about 30-45 minutes to do a thorough clean where a vacuum and an airduster doesn't do anything helpful like shown in the video. First I used a feather-duster to get rid of the initial layer of dirt, then a basic cloth/rag to go between the front grill. Use a rag for the actual fan part since the fibers won't breakdown in the fan filter but don't go too rough and do damage. I did notice there was still thick dirt/dust bunnies in the grill so I used a straw-broom and poked it until loose. You can try to use can air to blow it off or a vacuum but having a soft brush attachment helped get in the crevices to remove those loose clumps from the broom. Spray some disinfectant on the plastic grill backing that's now unscrewed, and a wipe for the front since you can't remove it from the fan part(you can but i'd rather not deal with the loose cable strip holding the fan to the top buttons)...If you have a legit air compressor, using that helped drastically but be careful when blowing the fan part which can potentially do damage to the fan since it can spin very fast on the right angle.......Hey Lasko, maybe your next design can have a removable back/front grill for an easy dust clean but hey I'm not a part of your engineering team.

Another thing that helps is to lightly spray cotton swabs with a cleaner, then shine a flashlight into the vents, and swab the reachable, internal bits to capture some of the buildup. Either way, it's a time consuming pain in the can. We need to stop being a disposable world and companies need to step up and do their part by making products that can be maintained and not thrown out.

My leaf blower does the job. Just put your leaf blower against the tower heater or tower fan. Go up and down both sides (back and front) 2 or 3 times to blast it all the dust out. Do this like every 3 months or as often as you want. Works for me. No more burning dust smell when running my Lasko tower heater. Remember, just because the grills are dust free doesn't mean it's CLEAN. Dust gets sucked through the grills and dust builds up on the motor and electronic parts causing burn smell when running the heater.

Opening your unit, no matter what product DOES NOT void any warranty, even if the company says so. Voiding a warranty for opening a device without damaging it actually illegal. The only way the warranty can be voided(even if you break the warranty void seals) is IF they can PROVE that you caused the damage by opening the device. Simply opening the device if done correctly does not damage it and therefore cannot void the warranty. The only time this doesn't apply is when a device has a special seal (i.e. waterproofing, material protection, etc.) that once your break the seal this special seal needs to be replaced. When those special seals are broken and not replaced during reassembly it can cause electrical issues but that is not the case for something basic like cleaning dust off a fans internals. Now that that's out of the way, I just took my tower heater apart from them, had 4 security torx and the rest were Philips. Once I got the back off, I see the housing/fan/ heater. I proceeded to do a light disassemble of the housing so I could reach the fan and heater core and I use a shop vac with a gentle brush attachment on all the internals and a crevice attachment for any narrow spots. Put the housing back together then the back on, and boom. No more vibration, no more funny smell, no more loud noises, etc. This is simple maintenance and sometimes simply sucking out the back of the heater doesn't work, sometimes you need to get inside of it. Instead of replacing it I purchased a tool kit that had all the bits I need (ifixit mako). The hardest part is getting the correct screwdriver. They make the cutouts for the screwdriver slots so small/narrow that you need skinny long screwdrivers to actually get to the screw. You also want to be careful to not displace or tug on any of the wiring when doing this. That is the main reason manufacturers don't want consumers disassembling their products because most people are mechanically inept and this CAN cause a fire if you fuck up some wiring, and they CAN be held liable if it's not known that you were the one who actually messed up the device. Lawsuits is why most companies don't like their shit worked on, not because they want you buying the same product 100 times.

Ok on further review it seems like Lasko purposefully made a disposable product that would last 10+ years if it was serviceable but instead is carefully designed to break the day after warranty. Oh yeah, it also has a parasitic current draw 24/7 so it will increase your electric bill even if you don't turn it on. Thanks Lasko!

This video is useless. Let me tell you guys my experience after just de-assembling a tower fan of another brand that stalled / stopped turning. Dust will eventually get into the motor where it'll stick and mix with the grease / lube to form a thick crusty sludge that will clog the bearings / shaft and eventually require actual servicing. The friction will either cause it to stop completely, or have poor air flow. Unfortunately many brands intentionally make the motors non-serviceable by the consumer by sealing it with rivets! Fortunately from another disassembly video I watched, Lasko seems to use nuts and screws (unsure if thread-locked). I can't tell you guys how to disassemble your specific model's housing but it's easy enough, and only takes about 8-10 screws. Once you get to the motor: - There will be 4 screws and bolts, unscrew it, and open up the motor. - Slide out the rotor (cylindrical thing that rotates), and you will see a circle with bearings in it. This has to be cleaned with Kerosene / diesel / 100% isopropyl alcohol / or some kind of de-greaser (If you don't have anything just try hand sanitizer, honestly not ideal, but it'll work). - You might need a pin, some Q-tips, or a toothbrush to scoop up and unclog some of the nasty gunk, but try not to damage anything or use extensive force. - Apply WD40, or motor grease on the bearings, and shaft / axle (any part that rotates in contact with another). - If you've washed any of the parts like the fan blades or plastic housing allow it to dry completely! (or you risk short circuiting) - Reassemble, but don't close the housing yet until you've tested it. Should run smoothly again! Wish manufacturers made servicing easier like having a dust filter / panel that slides out, , or using thumb screws to easily slide out the motor from the bottom, but they all want you to toss a perfectly fixable product into the landfill and buy a new one for no damn reason.

The tower fan works great, but it is only a temporary fix. You can vacuum the intake and outtake vents until you turn blue, but as soon as dust adheres to the internal blades you're doomed to have dust pellets randomly flying across the room without warning. There's no way to actually clean the interior spinning blades because it is designed not to be accessible. Save your money and instead have ceiling fans installed so you can get up on a ladder and actually wipe the blades clean! An expensive lesson after purchasing five tower fans placed throughout our home.

My heater was full of dust on the intake side. I used my **shop vac** with the nozzle attachment in "blow" mode and it blew most of the dust from the front to the back grille. After I vaccumed up the bulk of that (most was caught in the back grille), I blew from the intake side to get the other side of the fan blades and a shoulder on the motor housing, then blew from the front again and vacuumed from the back. Impeccable!

Since purchasing it, kzfaq.infoUgkxQuBMI30VhO6fDed6NOsYftsoNa8x0UZ5 this fan is a trustworthy companion during the hot nights in Texas for me. The sleep mode is really quiet and gives you smooth wind to cool down. At full speed the fan is quite noisy but also very strong.Only weird thing is that if there is a draught from another fan, the sleep mode would speed up occasionally (getting a bit louder, probably to level 2 out of 4). This never happened so far when I used only this fan though.

Leaving cat-hair inside a space heater seems like a much greater safety hazzard than having pieces you can detach and reattach could possibly create!

Wish I had seen this before I bought one. Shifty product by a shifty money hungry company. You'd think it'd be a health concern to them that you can't clean the filter.

In other words “we’re not going to explain what tool you use to take the special screws out because we want you to simply buy a new one, as a vacuum cleaner can’t really get close enough to suck the dust off the inner components.”

The real bottom line is that this method of cleaning does little to no good. After searching for affective ways to clean this fan the take away is to through it out and buy a fan from a company that allows you to clean it for your health and safety. I hate the idea of filling up landfills with disposable products from companies that are more interested in money than public health and safety, but you live and learn. it would be nice if this company would learn from the negative comments about there product reviews but that probably won't happen.

I'll never buy another Lasko tower fan. I always take my fans apart twice a year and clean them. The Lasko fan was very quiet when I first got it, but within 3 months, it was becoming much louder. I purchased it because it claimed to be much quieter than other fans and I use it at night. I'm sure it needs cleaning. If I can't take it apart to clean, then it's just another piece of junk

The design is awful. Save yourself the frustration and just throw the fan away. The inner blades, where the most debris gets caught, are not reachable by vacuum; and blowing with compressed air will just blow that debris everywhere. If you don't want your money down the drain, you could drill through the TRIANGLE screws in the back and tear them out. I would just buy a Honeywell. The Honeywell latches in the back and comes right off, clearing the way for A FILTER, which is easily vacuumed, and the inner air moving blades, then also easily vacuumed.

Just throw it away and buy a portable radiator, easy clean, air is warmer than the Lasko and costs less to operate. Simple solution to a dirty problem.

Welp I just voided the &#$% out of the warranty. Have the star bits for the screws. Got it _all_ clean. Only took the removal of 104 screws & ½ a day but I assaulted it real good. Even grew a beard during the process. Thanks for nothing Lasko.

Wow. Where was this 3yrs ago when I bought the fan?? Ridiculous. You guys live in the 90s. Anyone considering a new fan don't buy this one. Make sure you can take the filter out. If you do buy this fan consider also purchasing a vacuum. Never mind whether or not you have a carpeted home. The vacuum is for the fan.

Cleaning the fan is a piece of cake with a compressor, an air hose and a nozzle. But I highly doubt you're gonna get the fins clean with canned compressed air. Too bad.

It is positively unacceptable that you have created a fan that cannot be cleaned, because vacuuming, compressed, air, and even wiping it down does not get anywhere near the spinning blades inside that are covered with dust after just a few uses. I've even resorted to using the blower for the lawn to try to get the dust out of my fan and it still is not clean. I'm incredibly disappointed that there's no way to clean the blades and will never purchase another Lasko product.

It's criminal that you add a chirper and then not give us a way to turn it off. Middle of the night temp adjustments are like a shot in the dark. Reasonable friendly product engineers would actually shell out the .50 cents to add a physical on/off chirper switch. But NOOOOOOOOO. We have to tear the thing apart, unsolder the chirper and waste a half hour+ of our time.

capitalism ROCKS! No way to thoroughly clean... just toss it out and they are happy to sell you another one. What a CROCK of #!%$&!..... Just finished CLEANING another brand fan which understands customer loyalty is key in long term success. The grills AND blades are plastic. As in easy to clean IF your company actually cared about anything but profit. (not going to profit from people who will NOT BUY your stuff ... EVER..... NEVER) There is absolutely NO REASON other than greed that you create products with a shelf life of 'we don't care' (edited from f u).
