Speed is important for many reasons such as improving your digital art skills at a faster rate, taking on more projects and earn more for the time you spend creating! For me, being able to draw faster was the difference between going full time as a freelance artist versus not.

AAH thats so much faster, I was going to the lineart layer, using the area select/lasso to select the areas I want to color, then paint bucketing. This takes out a big step, BLESS 🙌💗

as a beginner artist (started in December 2020, these have been SOOO helpful! I like draw everything out on paper, then ink it, then scan it in, then convert brightness to opacity, then open a layer underneath then use the magic wand tool. Then I press expand area x4 then press the fill bucket.

and if for some reason you really need to color using the initial method, there's 'anti overflow > do not cross lines of reference layer' option in brush sub tool detail palette that helps you to color without crossing lines

This is a really usefull tip. Other KZfaqrs use the wizard stick tool and select each single surface. It really takes much time. Noone of them use the bucket.

thank you for this video, i have just recently got clip studio and been using it for a couple weeks. The coloring was really wearing me out and my pen tips cause i used to coloring things like, outling with the color then use the bucket and then i'd have to color in the places that didn't fully connect o.- it was hell lol

Absolutely, so glad it could help! I have an iPad pro as well and you can do key binds if you pair it with a Bluetooth keyboard. I got one off Amazon so that is possible, but maybe not exactly the 'experience' you'd expect or want with an iPad but good to know your options!

As someone who's just starting out in digital art and completely new to actually coloring their art, this video is crazy helpful. I've watched plenty that went over using clipping or mask layers and things like that but never one that showcased the reference layer tool or this much info in such a clean and concise fashion.

This was SO helpful and speedy while also being super informative! I often get overwhelmed with tutorials where the author may ramble (not about the topic) or may spend hours slowly explaining in a monotone voice. I found this useful cuz I just got clip studio paint. I used to do my colouring the long boring way and it caused me pain. Took me months to realise the bucket tool exists. Those were the days.

I learned a lot here. I don't use folders - because not seen a need to...I've just started to get on board with clipping layers and coloured layers and hot keys - Never used them..... Now having watched this tutorial things are starting to move to a better working style. Thank you for pointing out my errors and taking my blinkers off. Thanks for the video. My take away is that I’m gonna start flatting individual colors on separate layers. That’s going to really help my process for clipping shadows and highlights to each color.

I never used to waste time drawing in lines. Instead I always switched to my line art layer, used magic wand then go back to shading layer. This was annoying when I had to keep scrolling through layers and when I’d accidentally forget to select a certain patch. So I’ll definitely be using the reference layer and clipping layer tools! Thanks so muchh

Hi, nice video, i just wanted to let you know, if you werent aware, that one of the beautiful things about clip studio is that your reference layer or any layer doesnt need to be all connected with no gaps because of the gap forgiveness feature. In the bucket tool, theres a gap forgiveness setting where you can tell it how big of a gap you want it to ignore and it'll just act as if it was closed. I love it, its very useful :)

Well I didn't hear it mentioned in the video so I figure I would. As for the fill tool (I think this is CSP specific though) if you do have a gap in your line art, there is an option to ignore gaps and only fill the area you intended. Its somewhere in the fill tool options. That can help save even more time, than going through your line art scanning for gaps.
