Many European providers are shutting down their ISDN services, however not all businesses are ready to give up their ISDN PBX systems. During this technical webinar we will demonstrate how to connect an ISDN PBX system with a SIP trunk.

This is a great video. I have one question. I have 2 different locations connected with one Asterisk Server. Would it be possible to have an ISDN setup at each location pointing to the Common voIP PBX to communicate through it? What I want to do is have a Dialup Modem on Each end talking to each other. I know through voIP alone, the Dialup service does not work as well due to compression even when using G711. But I want to test to see if it will work better if it first goes through the ISDN before being handled via SIP.

Dear @RetroMobs this should indeed work in principle, but as you pointed out it might be a bit flaky. With the beroNet Gateways you can use the so called "CLEARMODE" which disables all sorts of Audio-Manipulations which might distort the modem transmission. nevertheless the jitter will eventually cause the connection to fail. To minimize the jitter and keep the connection running as long as possible you would need a high precision clock on both ends. Our BRI and PRI Gateways do offer such high precision clocks. It sounds to me though, that the modem runs in software already. In this case a transfer via ISDN which then is passed back to VoIP would not really optimize the transmission. It would rather make sense to use CLEARMODE in the software and using a high precision clock on the hardware where the modem is running.
