These say compatible with the Nintendo switch, does it work in handheld mode?

No, you dock the switch and hook the HDMI to the adapter which then hooks to the glasses. The glasses just take the place of the TV you would normally be using otherwise.

You would need a spliter order one pair is connected via streaming and one physical but you wouldn't be able to watch movies like that
