As of Feb 2024 THIS STILL WORKS!! I couldn't find any other solutions, so followed this advice and purchased two separate HDMI cables and two separate dongles. Once I got them plugged in, I was able to immediately use two separate display screens with my Mac. HUGE THANKS for this solution!

Lifesaver! I am running a 2022 MacBook Pro, and this hack still works great! For anyone who only has one of the dongle‘s… You can plug one HDMI cable directly into the MacBook Pro, and the other one plugged into the dongle and that will also extend both screens (not duplicate). And if necessary, you can open the MacBook Pro and have three screens. Thanks again! Very concise, very informative and no fluff!

A miracle! It worked! I've spent months and lots of money buying dongles to use my two new displays with my new MacBook Air. One actually worked but was frying my ports. Thankyou for this video!

Helpful video. Thanks. The Satechi USB - C Dual Multimedia adapter means you don't need 2 dongles ( docks) or a dongle ( dock) and a separate HDMI / USB C connector to another port. The Satechi Dual Multimedia has a dual plug that plugs into the 2 usb c ports in the mac and this dongle has 2 HDMI ports in it for your monitors to plug straight into. It also has the SD and micro sd card slots ethernet port and usb c port so you can power on. Its a tad more expensive at around $170 AUD.

For long time I have been looking for a video to do exactly this with my Mac. I had similar setup in my job and missed so much something similar at home. I just puchased a ne MacBook Air and see a sea of opportunities to have at last multiple monitors on my home Mac. Thanks so much!!!!!

THANK YOU 🙏🏾 this absolutely WORKS! One screen is attached to the MacBook Pro with an Apple dongle. The second is screen is connected by an hdmi. One end to the screen and the other straight in to the Mac. I tried everything like you did and your solution is BRILLIANT. Thanks again.

May 2021 Update:- After some feedback and doing some research, I have found that while the M1 MacBooks natively support just one monitor, the M1 Mac Mini *does* natively support up to two external monitors - one via the HDMI port and a second via USB-C. But the latest models of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro _support only one external display_ . Apple has apparently promised to fix the problem in a future update of macOS 11 Big Sur.

I tried using the HDMI and VGA port on my Mac's Hyper drive (dongle) but it only seems to output to one of the screens. So all I need is another use type C dongle for the Mac and another HDMI cable. Beautifully done. It took me over a year to figure this out myself through countless confusing KZfaq videos but this was the best by far. Interesting that you did not have to do anything with display link software? Also curious what software your current MacBook is at and if this process still works with the most recent version of apple software?

Hey mate. I have a 2015 MacBook Air. Would using a thunderbolt to hdmi dongle and USB 3.0 to hdmi dongle with two seperate hdmi cables do the trick? The USB to hdmi dongle has no other ports it’s just the hdmi port. Cheers

I have 2 samsung monitors connected to my Macbook Pro, but I cant make them to function independently from one another...What ever I do on one screen happens automatically on the othe rone as well..Anyone can plz tell me what to do to make them work separately from each other ? Thanks

I had the same issue today, 26.11.2022. I am a windows guy and do not know that much about Macbook, well nothing is more like it. I thought it was as easy as windows, by using one hub with HDMI, DVI and display port, well it did not work, so back to google and I found you. So 2 hubs are needed one hub/adapter per cable? I would not have ever thought of that. Thank for your support in this matter. Going to straight away to try it.

I don't know if this will work for others. while watching this I had an idea like I was using linux workspace. (off topic sorry ) SO Another way that might help others. open settings, click -display, then at the top there will be different categories i.e. -display -arrange -colour -nightshift. Click -arrange. IN that yow will see a box depicting your device display and any other connected monitors. Theres a box that says "mirror" un-click that and it should set up as 3 - as many ports as you can squeeze in!! This mad my day as it brings me my linux productivity of having diff workspaces but still having my loved Mac operating system

Great video! As an alternative, if you don't need the extra ports from the dongle, I was able to just connect two USB-C to HDMI wires from my Macbook Pro to each monitor and it worked (avoiding the dongles).

This video was very helpful. I was able to set up my system feew minutes after watching the video.

for less cords you can buy the apple usbc digital av adapter and use the hdmi port on the apple adapter with your hdmi cord to one monitor and use a hdmi to uscc to the usb c port on the apple adapter and hdmi into the second monitor, entire process requires two cords (hdmi, hdmi to usbc) and one adapter (apple usbc digital av adapter)

I have an early 2015 MacBook Pro. Using a splitter has worked fine. Went into Best Buy thinking I needed to get all of the equipment, she assured me that the splitter would not mirror. And she was right. Not sure what the difference is between my situation and yours, but appears to be dependent on the circumstances.
