This is really helpful. I bought Ethernet card from LPS computer. It came quickly. I got the card but I am so bad at connecting the system.I called LPS computer and spoke to Bob. He is really a nice guy and very patient. Now I got my printer printing. Thank you Bob you are the best.

Hello Bob, Not sure what the issue is with my Designjet 500, I have an HPGL2 card and the Network card. My card will not even show up in the IO menu on the printer. I have tried a bunch of different things like reseating the cards, switching slots, and multiple printer restarts. Let me know if this is something that you have encountered before and how the problem was solved. Thank you

I have a HP 3720. The cartridge carriage is stalled. I can even grab it and slide it across. When I open the door to the printer cartridges the cartridge moves slightly, but doe not come to the middle. It is jammed. There is no paper or other obvious construction.

Hi: I have my T610, working perfectly fine with USB, although it has an ethernet port in it, but i am not able to fine it on main pannel screen of printer, can you please help me. I have clicked every single button on main screen and setting but i am unable to locate I.P. settings, although formatter board has Ethernet port and when connected to a wire it does lightup as well, please advise. thanks

Hi, I just bought a design jet, will it work in a different room that does not have WiFi in it? Like if I'm operating my computer, in one room , and sending things to print to the design jet that's in another room without the WiFi, will it work? Thanks

@@MrYogya08 i had the same issue (it's probably universal on windows 10). just google search the driver for your model, go to hp's webpage, download the driver software, run it, and just input the ip listed on the printer (after executing the initial steps in this video) in the setup dialogue. it will find it. choose it, click next, and it installs automatically.

love these old printers, i have the 500 its been on usb 6-7 years and i just bought it a jetdirect 620 card, i'm not seeing much improved on the 800 i think it was just a re-badge and a software tweek of the 500 for sake of having a product for market. what i did wish is that the 500 didn't seem to love crying about 'heads' being defective when there not. costing me money in heads every few month another needs to be binned, surely there's a way to stop this craziness.

Most PCs will require an intermediate network device, such as an Ethernet switch or a router.

The 510 does not require the GL/2 upgrade board for the JetDirect card to function.

Hi, I have an hp 500ps and I would like to add an ethernet to it (in order to connect to my office switch network). Currently, the plotter only has serial and usb connection. Would you be able to consult on the ethernet card I need to buy? Hp do not offer support for these plotters anymore ..

Is there a way to check with the current firmware is? I want to get a card since I cannot complete the firmware update due to the plotter not showing up as connected via USB... but if the card needs a firmware update to install... I'm still stuck...

I bought an old HP DesignJet 350C from a retired Civil Engineer. I want to use it to print patterns for fashion design. It came with an HP Jetdirect EX plus, and I want to operate it with a Macbook 10.14 Mojave. I'm pretty tech savvy and got it to work using a USB to Parallel. But I can't get the printer to show up on my Mac using my router (connected to the Jetdirect & printer) for wireless connection. It would be awesome if you or someone could help me out here.... 👍🏽

The 350C is pretty much an antique, but you may be able to connect using the external Jetdirect if you can find a printer driver for it using OSX. Apple used to have their drivers for HP printers for Mac on their website. In the old days, the Macs would only connect to a PostScript printer and none of the 350C plotters were PostScript. You may want to contact Apple and see what they recommend.

@@bobwert6982 thanks for the info! ATM, I'm trying to connect the printer to my old Windows XP computer to see if I can get anything out of it (ie: the printer's IP address). I could not connect the JetDirect EX plus to it. ☹️ Wondering if I should upgrade the old XP to 10. I'm probably digging my hole deeper and deeper. lol I'm thinking the direct connection using that Parallel/USB to my MacBook will end up being the only way to operate this thing, which was a miracle on its own. Anyway, I'll keep you posted.

@@insidexistance If you are using an XP OS, download and install the XP Pro 64 driver. As I recall, the external JetDirect boxes were not easy to configure and I don't remember the steps. See if you can find the instructions on the internet.

AH NO! Printing a TEST page does not provide any proof that the printer is actually queuing jobs properly. BAD EXAMPLE! Lets see you actually queue something to PRINT. Thats the only sure way of proving that the printer/plotter is actually working.

The video shows how to make an ethernet connection between a computer and the plotter. Obviously, the correct printer driver needs to be present.

3 Years later comment but.. It does prove it. Printing a test page puts a job in the queue for the spooler. Just as a normal print job.
