Really appreciate you taking the time to make this… I’m really surprised that you did not talk about how you have the record mode set up when you use the two mics. That’s what I was actually looking for… otherwise it’s a great video!

Great video. Thank you. I bought the DR-40X and very rarely use it. The reason to buy it was to spread the built-in mics, put it on a table in the centre of my music room, and face it towards my hifi speakers. This way, I assume it will record audio the way my speakers actually sound in person. I could take a line level out of my hifi system and directly plug it into the DR-40X but that would just give me a hi-res audio file on the SD card, right?. In order to share files with friends and family with music the way I hear it in my room, what best way would you suggest? I have 4 different pairs of speakers, and I want to share how they all differently sound while playing the same music from the same source. Your thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hmm, I wish I knew better about the music engineering field, but my knowledge stops after you get past using it for audio-only recordings. Sorry, I can't be more helpful in this area, but I hope you figure out what you're trying to accomplish.

Good video. Very helpful! My wife and I have started a podcast that we have been doing on our android phone. We wanted to greatly improve our audio and the Tascam fit our budget and should do all we need.

Thanks for the video. I just bought a Tascam DR40X and Im taking it for its first run today out in the field. Today Im using it with a shotgun microphone to make a fun video ahead of a wedding. Generally tho, I will be using it for interviews with lav mics. again, much appreciated

Such a useful video! One question, you´re not using phantom power, right? Would I be able to use two mics that require it? Thank you! I plan to upgrade my asmr gear
@KrystalProffitt

I typically don't have the phantom power turned on. But I will say, I typically use it when I'm recording solo. I'd test and try things out when you're recording with 2 mics at once to see what works best for your setup. I hope that helps! 🌟

Are you able to adjust the input level on specific mics? Is there anything you can do if one mics is quieter than the other, or a guest is quieter than yourself etc?

Nice video Krystal. Thank you. I cant help but to notice how beautiful your fingernails are. Long and unpolished. Just thought I'd let you know. On a side note, I do plan on buying the zoom H6 portable audio recorder for my remote podcasts. Also, I just purchased the rode procaster pro audio interface for my podcasting at home!

Do you use dynamic xlr microphones? Is it true about the amp noise in recordings? Can you simultaneously record via internal and external mics? I’m looking to use a handheld in the field for audio soundscapes as well as as usb audio interface for podcasting by myself as well as for performances on stage as well as interviewing with several people.
@KrystalProffitt

Great questions! I'll try to answer them in order: 1. Yes, I use dynamic XLR mics. (Behringer Ultravoice Xm8500 Dynamic Vocal Microphone, Cardioid) 2. What about the amp noise? (I didn't understand your question here...) 3. I don't know that you can record internal and external simultaneously with the Tascam. My settings only allow for one or the other. I hope that helps!
@tiesthijsthejs
@tiesthijsthejs 3 жыл бұрын
Krystal Proffitt thanks for responding!! Ah well I read many times about people complaining that dynamic mics don’t work with tascam audiorecorders because of some sort of noise. So that kind of made me doubtful about the handheld.

Just learning myself, but shouldn't you have each one set up with safety tracks so each one has a safety track just in case?, so there should be 4 bars, 2 on each side, one being lower than the other...? I do that with just one microphone but figure it should work the same with 2 microphones, right?

Can I connect the device “xlr to 3.5mm cable “ to my computer? I want to record music from the computer.
@KrystalProffitt
@KrystalProffitt 3 жыл бұрын
I believe you'd need an interface to do that. I wouldn't try to go the route of connecting my Tascam to my computer. Instead, I'd look at an interface/mixer with USB, XLR and/or 3.5mm cable capabilities. But that's just my opinion. I'm definitely not an expert in recording music! 😉

how do you connect headphones to both mics?
@KrystalProffitt
@KrystalProffitt 2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. We did our interviews WITHOUT headphones because we were seated far enough away from each other that neither of our audios bled into the other. From what I see, there isn't a jack to plug in two separate headphones.

I'll try a new question. Any idea why I'm not hearing any sound from the internal speaker? I can hear it if I hook up headphones but I don't always want to do thtat.

Hey, Vivian. There could be a few reasons why you're not hearing sound, but I don't use headphones with mine so I can't help you troubleshoot with this one particular issue. Sorry about that...

It's a great recorder but I ran into a problem this morning while connecting an XLR. I've connected older cables without a problem. But when I inserted a brand new monoprice XLR cable, it became stuck. Like permanently locked. Looking online, I think there is an opening/notch in this cable that allows the Tascam to firmly lock onto it, and now won't release it. With previous cables, the never really locked in place, but stayed firmly attached. Never really had to press the unlocking mechanism on the Tascam. But this time was with the new XLR cable was different. Anyone else have this problem? Some say keep jiggling it. Or even break it apart. Looks like I'll have a permanently attached XLR.

@VivianEcclefield58
@VivianEcclefield58 3 жыл бұрын
Krystal, thanks so much for this video. I'm planning to use the Tascam primarily as a backup recording device without attached microphones. I always use xlr mics directly into my cameras. Any idea how close it has to be to the subject to get decent audio?
@KrystalProffitt
@KrystalProffitt 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Vivian, It really depends on how loud you are and the direction the Tascam is pointed. I'm a pretty loud person and I can sit a comfortable distance away and it'll pick up great audio -- even with the internal mic. I'd play around with it and do several test runs to see what'll work best for you. I hope that helps! 🌟

XLR or quarter 1/4 jack on bottom you can also use a quarter 1/4 jack to 3.5mm adapter.

The video lacks some really crucial information. Without this information you wont be able to use an external mic and you will be very frustrated. The video fails to tell you that you need to point the device to an external mic. You need to go into record settings just under the display and toggle to ext mic. You also have to go to the side of the device and put it into mic/phantom mode to power your external mic. If you don't do this it wont work. These are actually the most important aspects of using an external mic with this device. This video only shows you how to plug the mics in. If you can put a round peg in a round hole you can figure that out. The other things I mentioned above will drive you crazy until you figure it out. That is what I was hoping this video would do. It didn't. Sorry. : (
