thank you so much! i was struggling to add boiler switch to Homekit and just by adding Tuya web i was able to auto connect and adding the device - of course I have tuya account and added my device ID etc over there but now its working :)

Thanks for the video, One very IMPORTANT note that nobody seems to point out is that you CANNOT use sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple for the authorization on Tuya/Smart Life. Homebridge will just throw Authorization errors. Sign in with a regular email and that will solve the issues.

Eddie, I appreciate your clear and concise teaching! That said, I am a novice Tuya/Smart-Life user. I have use for RGB LED light strip that I wish to create separate "scenes" for various colors: sunrise, Mid-day and sunset tones. I have both Smart Life and Tuya Smart apps loaded on my IOS phone. I can create a "scene" which merely turns on/off the LED strip lights, but I can't configure a specific RGB color-mix for each scene, as mentioned above. I am not a developer. I do wish to ultimate control/select those scenes via my Windows 11 desktop. Please help.....

Hi Eddie, your instruction is gorgeous. I mean it's great. I have 2 questions: 1- this is applicable for whom use tuya hub like Zensmart or Neo zigbee hub to support for homebridge, right? 2- can you do an instruction how to use Zigbee IR device with HomeBridge? I am having the universal remote controller, but cannot use it, although I can pair it with Z2M and can see it in HomeBridge. But HomeBridge just considers it as a hub. Thanks.

Hey Dennis - appreciate the feedback. For the Zigbee hubs (Zemi or Neo) - if it uses the Tuya or Smart life app - use the API plugin to expose the devices to Homebridge. Do not use the token method. For the Z2M - please share with me the link to the device you purchased. I'll check what attributes are supported

Hey! Thanks so much for the detailed explanation. I've got a question, At first everything in the accessories tab didn't work..a few minutes after it suddenly did, but everything in HomeKit is connected but everything says 'unresponsive'. Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks a lot.

It will work on both .. Cellular network as well as local .

I’ve watched all you vids on this topic and no matter what I do, I can’t get my doorbell camera to show up in the home app. Everything shows in iot correctly and I’ve set it all up properly in the tuya app too. Any reason why it wouldn’t show in my accessories only homebridge and never show up in home app even if I scan the code to add it to the home app? You’re tutorials got me heaps further than I had been able to get on my own! Thank you!

Hi Lacey... your welcome. If you are refering to Tuya Based Doorbells - then i havent come across as well a working solution with Homebridge. The current support is more tilted towards other Device types.

You will definitely need Homebridge to work 24/07 and if you have rules - you can block the inernet connection to the Tuya devices

Since they are bluetooth - they can only be controlled via the hub .. so i am not sure there is a possibility

Hi, great video! However, I have a question because I use the second method (TuyaPlatform) and I saw that I had to renew the trial every 6 months or create a new account but I would like to have nothing to do do at all, the solution via TuyaWeb allows it not to have to renew anything? If I use this method, the status feedback (on/off/percentage for example) will be transferred between smartlife and homekit? Anyway, very well explained video, thank you!

Tuya always keeps changing their online platform. The most stable is the Tuya web plugin

Hi, Thanks for the video. I installed on my new HOOBS 4 raspberry pi and it only bought over my switches but not my Ceilingfans with in built lights. I had everything working in TuyaLAN on Hoobs 3. Any ideas?

Thanks for the info! Please check the logs if teh plugin was able to detect all the devices and if they appear in the HOOBS accessories section or just restart the bridge to ensure it detects all of the devices.

Cloud connected or you need local control meaning the device will still work without internet connectivity

Hi Eddie. Your videos are very good. Thanks. I opened an account on the ioT Tuya Platform basic plan and extracted all local keys to my devices. Now the website said that the subscription will expire and I need to upgrade to the ioT core plan and says that the price is USD 25,000.00 ?!?. Can I continue to use the local keys after the plan expires and I dont renew it? What will hapen to the local keys I extracted if I dint renew, I will lose the capability to operate the devices locally? Please clarify.

Hey Milton .... you can still continue using the local keys... Just dont power cycle them 5 times or else they go into reset mode....You can always create a new project with Tuya to extract the keys or use a new email :) Cheers

Eddie, having some issue with the 0x5e/homebridge-tuya-platform Plugin working with an electric fireplace. The code is turning the 'heater' component on and off, but not the actual fireplace lights which is what I want. When I log in to the IOT tuya dashboard in the device debug mode, I can send a JSON command for ' "code": "light", "value": true ', and the fireplace lights turn on (and false turns it off correctly). The documentation for the plugin shows a 'Change DP Code' example, which I have done by changing the schema deviceOverrides exactly following their example by adding "code": "switch" to "newCode": "light", but in the log its still showing 'switch'. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? Goal is to send a true or false command to the DP code 'light' instead of 'switch'

Hi Eddie - something related and unrelated to the video. I used to run HB through a Mac mini and switched to a Pi with the HB image they provided back in October. Since installing, randomly the system drops all connections with the Tuya devices with an ECONNRESET error. Originally I migrated the data folder across from the previous setup but have since removed and re-added all devices, even switching routers to see if that was the issue to no avail. Sometimes it can go for days without issue. Others it''s every few hours. I do have one or two devices which are faulty which am wondering if that is throwing it, but a reboot of the HB service sorts it out until it causes the fault all over again. Everything is up to date but am at my wits end now, even with the wife begging me to uninstall all of the smartphone stuff I've installed as it's now so unreliable. On the Mac mini it was largely ok, but on the pi4 it's really bad. any ideas???

I've even switched ISPs and am setting the DHCP through my equipment now instead of theirs; it's almost like as if a new device is added to the network or disconnects and reconnects it fails. I've got the device registered as a fixed ip via my router by registering the Mac address as my z2mqtt is running on the same device and needs the ip to talk to HB but, again, this was all running on the Mac mini without issue. any advice would be great. thanks!

Hi Eddie. I tested both the official Tuya Plugin and the Tuya Web Platform Plugin and found that the official one is quicker to respond to automations and also recognize devices that the Tuya Web does not reconize, However, the Tuya web can expose SmartLife scenes and I did not find this in the official Tuya Homebridge one. Is there any way to expose the Smartlife scenes to Homekit using the official Tuya Homebridge?

Hey Milton - I am not aware of the functionality within the official Tuya homebridge. My recommendation is to create the scenes within Homekit - so it works seamlessly with your smart devices. Cheers

Hello Romano - when you interact with the device - please check the logs - it will give you a tip on why its not working ..... Could be a network connectivity issue ... Please check the logs

Hey Eddie, I figured out my issue. The Tuya Smart app allows more characters for passwords whereas the the Tuya plugins do no. Once I limited the password to letters and numbers worked fine. Again thanks for all of your excellent tutorials.

I had set up my tuya lights on the web plugin, if I want to set them up with the local key on the tuya lan plugin do I have to delete them from the web plugin first? also will my automations on HomeKit get messed up?

Hey David ... if you choose the Local Key path... You will need to uninstall the web plugin and redo your automations.

Eddie, have you tried extract local keys recently? They're encrypted by the looks of it eg TI:^kW;TjDnF:A12 whereas you had hex- thoughts?

Hey Pawel ... Yes you can get status using Rest API .... If you ask me how ... There is a Homebridge plugin to do so.

Hey Jason - if i am not mistaken the homebridge-tuya-platform supports Wifi sensor. Please check the Homebridge logs - if its reporting all the devices you have added.

Hi eddie sir, I already use the Tuya Platform plugin but i just wanted to control my devices locally so I installed the Homebridge Tuya plugin as you guided but i am facing some issues. My issue is that i have successfully added the accessory ( smart light for this matter ) to my homekit but i am not able to control it , i mean than when ever i am giving a command nothing happens. But what seems weird to me is that i am able to add and use my smart plug properly without any problems but facing issues with smart lights. Please help me solve this ..!! Thanks

Hello Karthik ! With Smart Lights - besides the Local Key & ID - there are other data point settings called as DP's need to be updated. You will need to update those values such as brightness, temperature & function. Basically you will need to tweak those values. Head over to the GitHub page of the developer - probably someone is using your brand and you will find a solution plus check the Homebridge logs to get more information on the data points. See below that I have configured for a smart light - { "type": "RGBTWLight", "name": "Corner Light", "id": "XXXX", "key": "XXXXX", "manufacturer": "XXXX", "dpPower": 20, "dpMode": 21, "dpBrightness": 22, "dpColorTemperature": 23, "dpColor": 24, "colorFunction": "HSB" }

I have installed the Tuya Platform plugin, successfully configured the IoT Dev platform and scan the QR code to Homekit, but no device is showing up in Home app. Any advice?

When you scanned the QR code in the DEv Platform - under devices, do you see the devices from the Tuya app ? If yes - then go to Homebridge Logs and check if the plugin connects and retrieves the device information.

Yes, I see all the devices in the Dev Platform. I cab see the bridge added in the Home app under Home settings. However, it is not showing up in Homebridge Log.

Tuya’s pairing of the SmartLife app and TuyaIoT platform is surprisingly bad. I also can’t make it past the QR code stage because of “The number of projects linked with this Tuya Smart App account has reached the upper limit of 2. Unlink the account from existing projects and try again.” But also if you dig hard enough you’ll find “Note: Currently, deletion of cloud development projects is not supported, we will support it as soon as possible.” Disrespectful

8:18 when i try to add the account it says: Failed to bind App Account to the project, possibly due to the following reasons. 1. This App account has already been bound to the project 2. You have not selected a data center that matches your account. Oh Boy - thats the pain with Tuya 😅 however the local control is in the video as well to extract the token. as long as you dont reset the device. It works well

Actually it all boils down to what devices you need as both have apps, plugins and homebridge plugins. Tuya has a wider range of devices plus they sell white label products that other brands use, repackage and resell.

@@Valnurat Hells yeah ... Thanks to Homebridge - you can choose device types from Multiple brands that fits your budget ... and all devices that connect via wifi will get an assigned IP address from the router.

Hey Max .... Tuya is a brand name and they manufacture white label products - be it wifi or zigbee. On the other hand - zigbee devices use the zigbee protocol to connect to your smart hub that supports the zigbee protocol

Can you please check within the Tuya Developer platform - if your devices are available there ? If not - you may need to repair and also check your credentials.

Hey Charles all of your devices have to be on the same network and subnet to be identified by the plugin. Tuya keeps changing the weblayout - for the key go to - Cloud > API Explorer > Smart Home Device SYstem > Device Management > Get Device Details.

@@charles9860 Try connecting the HOOBS box with an ethernet cable and restart the box. Once connected - check the logs to confirm if the plugin has picked up the devices or it is reporting any errors.

Typically the ID is the Device Mac address. Check you router page if that matches and also within your router page - check if the device is online ... Thats the steps I would do.

@@richardpolonskyi9219 it won’t impact the computer’s performance. However the moment it sleeps - all your devices that use Homebridge will show as unavailable. If that’s going to happen - then a pi or a computer that your don’t use can be the option
